The owner of 1976 BBQ should be ashamed of himself for changing his business name from Mr. BBQ to 1976 BBQ. I have a screenshot from Facebook 2 years ago where he is promoting Mr. BBQ locally. 1775 started getting recognized by a lot of media outlets and magically Mr. BBQ became 1976 BBQ. You can do a simple google search to see that he just applied for the 1976 BBQ name with the state earlier this year. Brad Doan of 1775 is a vet that fought for our country. Anyone trying to take money out of a vets pocket by stealing his business will NEVER see a dollar of my money. Period. Don't care if it the best que in the world.

Yeah, I'd be real curious to hear the reasoning for the name change. And maybe there is a good explanation, but it definitely sounds like a way to use 1775's great reputation to generate some business.

FWIW, I've never heard of the place until another barbecue thread here recently.

There was a LOT of confusion over it on Facebook. He definitely was "stealing" business, as people kept saying they were the same or getting them confused.

1775 takes phone orders, but cuts them off during walkup serving times.
Might try around 10:00? They open at 11:00.

Dumb question, when are walkup serving times? Basically curious when I could call an order in.

Thx!

Call between 10:00 - 10:30. Walk up starts at 11:00. You can also order the day before for Friday or Saturday.

Entirely too few pictures in here. After reading this thread, I made a list of all the good places in the area to visit over the next few weeks. We started today with 1775 (been there several times). We were a little concerned the line would be extremely long with the holiday weekend, but we arrived at 11:30am to find the line about 10 people long. Half pound of brisket, sausage, and ribs. The brisket was a little drier than normal, but it was still fantastic.

Our backup was Snook Barbecue Co. if 1775 was too busy. We drove out there after eating to find they were closed for the weekend. It looks like a neat place though.

What are some excellent Bryan , College Station BBQ restaurants? Thanks
Excellent bbq is a matter of taste. Try all the places in BCS and decide for yourself. As you can see, there are a lot of different opinions and options. Don't rely on others to tell you what tastes best to you.

Our brisket was a bit dry too yesterday so maybe just bad luck? It was good but didn't live up to the hype brisket wise.

Ribs and Turkey were fantastic along with the brisket pinto beans and cucumber salad.

I'll give it another shot on the brisket next go round

For 1775 fans, remember the family is on vacation for two weeks I think.

I grew up in Bryan in the 50's. I remember Daddy bringing Martin's BBQ home -- I can't believe it's still thriving. The sons must have learned their lessons well from old Martin. Is Youngblood's still open? Best CFS ever. There was another BBQ called 3C. They introed baby back ribs to BCS. Outstanding!. It was in one of those Quonset huts outside of downtown Bryan going south on Hwy 6, across the the street from a great Mexican restaurant called Zarape's -- best enchiladas ever -- until they got shut down .. got caught using dog food in those delicious enchiladas!
Forever remembering: Jarrin Jack, John David, Crude Dude and Steady Edd (with two ds) , and C.K. Estin.

I love Martin's, but it's all about the atmosphere. The food isn't anything special

Never had dry or a bit dry brisket on any of our trips out there. Could be it was just a subpar batch.

Always great food across the board out there!!

We tried Snook BBQ Co. for lunch today. It was decent. We got there around 11:30am and had 1/2 pound of brisket, pork ribs, and jalapeno cheese sausage. The (short) line moved pretty slowly, and it took a while to get our food, but the staff was very nice. The brisket had a good texture but was a little bland. The ribs were cooked well, but I much prefer dry ribs. The sausage was great. Probably my favorite sausage in the area. They've got a nice setup. I hope they do well, but I'm afraid most of the CS audience won't make it past 1775.

I liked Blue Moon as well, but I thought they had closed awhile back.

Have they since reopened?

Did anyone ever go to Ben's BBQ back when Aaron Franklin's parents owned it ?

They must have started making more food if y'all are able to get ribs at 1775 at 11:30. I've gone twice, got in line before they opened, and they've run out of ribs before I could order. Kind of annoying.

It's forced me to get brisket both times (which is amazing, and I'm not a huge brisket fan). I'll call one day to make sure I get some.

Tried the Big Dawg BBQ truck at the farmers market yesterday. It was good. I like all the different sauces you can choose from.

I was really surprised. With it being a holiday weekend, I definitely expected it to be picked over, but there was actually a shorter line than I've seen most times.

Nor should they have. Just my opinion but the bbq in BCS is on its best days is mediocre . We need something more here. Something high quality. There's still room for a good product. I recently ate at Brisket House in Houston (Woodway) and those Houston joints blow anything here away by a mile.

If the Brisket House is the measuring stick it's a short stick.

I have been to quite a few of the ones that made the Top 50 and while i think some i need to revisit and some i think are better than others...i havent tried all of them and so i cant make a valued decision

I think LJs and 1775 are close but i give 1775 a slight more based upon their smoked turkey and maybe i shouldnt but it is the one item i have had that compares favorably to all BBQ in Texas and LJs is a great option in Brenham if you dont want to wait for Truth or come on a different day

Bretts I have been to twice in last two years and was good but each time was limited in selection

Truth beats all in this area overall IMO....sides and meats and their desserts

Talk to me about the What's the Deal BBQ truck in Bryan on Texas Ave. I drive past it all the time, there is always a line.

If anyone has tried it, would love to hear, and also what a "must try" there would be.

Brisket house is just one.

I regularly eat at Pinkertons and Killens and I'm not even asking for quality near that. I'll settle for Brisket House or even another decent spot in Katy called Chuck Wagon which I eat at frequently when there for business.

Brisket House or Chuck Wagon would immediately enter the BCS market and be the best bbq in town imho (of places I've eaten at, but admittedly there are a couple of names in this thread I have not eaten at yet)

We went there once and it was very good. We had chopped beef sandwiches and some sausage. The sandwiches were huge - enough meat for 2 meals. We just don't think about going there very often.

I doubt even Wayne thinks Brisket House should be on the list.

Glad no one likes the local joints. More room for me!

There's a reason people constantly vote for C&J's in the popularity polls. I'm surprised that Rudy's or Boomtown don't win...

I'm not talking about the Texas Monthly list.

I'm talking about local only. And I'm also talking about my personal opinion.

My personal opinion is that if Brisket House was here, it would be my personal favorite locally and I also think it would do quite well. And I"d consider it better than anything else I've tried locally . Granted I probably have not tried every joint but I have tried most. That also goes for Chuck Wagon in Katy. I also believe that too would come right in and be better than anything else I've tried locally. Again, just my own personal opinions.

Re: 1775

We've been ordering via email on Wednesdays and then modifying as late as 8-9am on Saturday.

Feeding 12-15 peeps

Great ribs. Brisket and sausage. We always order everything "whole" as opposed to sliced. Carry it in my Yeti and slice it later. Juicier that way

They cut lbs like my favorite bartender pours a double.
Just a little heavy
