Give 1875 a try and post your thoughts. I think you'll be very impressed compared to the other local options.

I think 1775 is the best, and it looks like most agree.

It's consistently the best brisket I've ever had. The ribs and sausage are also excellent, as are the sides. I even ran into Daniel Vaughn there not too long after they opened.

Fargo's would be my second choice. I think their pork ribs are better than 1775, but that's it. I also think they've slipped a little each time they've moved. It was awesome when it was in the carry-out only location up by the co-op.

My third would be Cooper's. I think their consistency is a little lower than the others, but it's great on a good day. Their pork ribs are top notch. They also have a lot more variety with the pork chops, sirloin, etc. All are good. The restaurant and bar are really nice (weird for a barbecue joint, but whatever).

I tried Martins once years ago and found it completely unremarkable. The only thing I remember is wondering how it was still open.

The only thing I remember from All the King's Men is how expensive it was.

Rudy's and C&J's don't really warrant mentioning in this thread. C&J's does have a great smoked chicken, but I think I only know that because because I don't bother getting their brisket or ribs. Poultry is so easy to smoke that it doesn't get too many points.

I will give Mallett Bros. in Navasota a shout out though, they recently catered my wedding of about 150 people and did an excellent job for about half the price of 1775.

But discussing barbecue can get as heated as politics.

But no one mistakes a steak from Outback with a steak from the Republic. Same is true with BBQ.

I havent seen any mention of J Cody on here. I have always liked them more than C&J

Definitely in the minority in this thread but I like C&J and have since they were just a convenience store that sold bbq. We eat at the original once a week probably.

We agree with you. We're frequent visitors to the Bryan store

That place in Snook is outstanding. He is only open on Friday and Saturday but you are missing out if you don't try it. I haven't tried 1775 but I can say that it is much better than any of the other local places.

If you get there by 11:30 for the first rounds coming off the oiler pit - they are great. On par with southside market.

I also like J Codys bbq, but I just love their burgers cooked over open flame so much its hard for me to deviate to q.

I usually separate bbq by a standard of cafeteria style or craft q. I like every place in town but dont order the same thing everywhere.

I love 1775 but I'm not crazy about their sides.

I just like talking about BBQ and could shoot the **** for hours.

C&J is good consistent bbq. Not the best in town. But overall good. I agree. Early bbq from them is good. Is the place in Brenham really good? Can't remember the name. On a side note. I won't wait over a hour for any bbq. Im just too lazy I guess

Did Blue Moon BBQ open back up? I know it's a bit outside of town but I went there once a few years ago and everything there I had blew my mind. Then one day I heard it was suddenly closed.

Blue Moon had some rough times when the work on OSR started. I heard that they reopened but then I heard that they were closed. Not sure at this point

My rankings in the hour radius of BCS

1. Snows
2. Truth
3. 1775
4. Brett's Backyard
5. LJs
6. Tejas
7. Fargos
8. Martin's
9. All the Kings Men
10. C&Js

some of those have speciics that push them up on my list

1775 is the smoked turkey
Fargos is the ribs
ATKM is the burnt ends

the problem is a few of those are only open limited days and that makes it tough

Limited hours on the weekends, but yes, they are "open" (kind of) again

We stopped by 1775 on Friday around lunch time while heading down to see the wife's family. It was the best brisket I've ever had!! My wife l\even loved it. We can't wait to return on our next trip to Brenham.

I think that's the first mention of Blue Moon in this thread. They must've really gone downhill. We went a few months ago and don't intend to go back.

I don't understand why anyone would eat BBQ anywhere else locally.

I went to Johnnys BBQ in Bryan Sunday. Just got the chicken, but it was Darn good. Will go back to try some other stuff.

Okay. I will be goong to 1775 to grab food to take home tomorrow and to bring by my husbands work. Not getting a ton of food. Likely just some brisket and sandwiches.

What time should I get there? I have 3 kids in tow (2 under 2), and dont want to wait in line forever.

They shut down when they basically lost all customers due to COVID and OSR construction. They have since reopened with limited hours. The owner's son has reopened, not the original couple (but he was still involved).

Im sure they are having a hard time gauging how much food to make with the construction still affecting peoples ability/willingness to drive out there.

Most people likely thought they were still closed.

If you get the chance, give them another shot. They are typically pretty dang good

1775 takes phone orders, but cuts them off during walkup serving times.
Might try around 10:00? They open at 11:00.

Yes, all the other bbq joints in the area should just give up and close already.

Another C&J's fan. Not interested in standing in line with the chance of being shut out.

Wife is from Llano, knows the owners, and loves Coopers. I am not a fan of their dipping sauce; but their sides are good, and particularly enjoy the pecan cobbler.

I'm late with my 2 cents but I'll post it anyways. As many others have said 1775 is head and shoulders above everybody else in the B/CS area. They sell out every day they are open but usually not until 2pm or later so get there at a decent time and don't worry about them running out. If you don't like standing in line for a bit, then don't, just means it's one less person that'll be standing in front of me. It's well worth a bit of a wait.

Fargo's has unfortunately gone down in quality each time they've moved to a bigger place. They're slightly above average, but not near what they used to be.

I grew up on C&Js, and have eaten it a lot over the years. It's not bad bbq, but it's not good bbq either. Just really, really average. Need a quick lunch of a sliced brisket sandwich and run back to the office? Go there. Need to impress some out of towner with a great bbq meal? Go somewhere else.

Coopers is alright now that they've gotten their seasoning figured out. First month or two everything was way over salted and I talked to several other people that confirmed it wasn't just me. Decent bbq but not in the same tier as 1775.

Martin's and J Cody's are decent places, kinda just like C&Js. A lot of people like the atmosphere/history of Martin's.

All the Kings Men is usually pretty good and might be my pick for second best in the B/CS area. They are pricey though (and so is 1775) and have had some consistency issues in the past.

I want to try out the 1976 pit bbq food truck that everybody seems to get mixed up with 1775. Have heard he has pretty good stuff. Also the new place in Snook supposedly is good as well. Haven't had Boomtown BBQ but haven't heard great reviews either so I'm in no rush for that.

Just my opinion, everyone should go where they want to go.

1976 brisket is top notch imho. Either the Mac and Brisket bowl or the sandwich on a hoagie are really good. Coopers brisket a month ago was nearly uneatable it was so salty. To the point I thought someone must have made a mistake-and I'm probably right. Disappointed because the Llano location always delivers.

I believe the word you continue to seek is "inedible".
