Numbers are starting to climb again. Not good.
right. on. cue.
Yesterday's numbers aren't up, but I do expect positives to increase with about 40,000 more people in town, most of whom will want to hang out with each other. And if they get it, most won't even know it. The numbers will increase b/c a few will have symptoms, get tested, and through contact tracing, their friends will be tested and we'll get a bunch of positive, asymptomatic cases, cases that don't typically spread it to others or require hospital resources.

Even when numbers go up, we need to keep all that in perspective. It doesn't really matter that much if a bunch of 18-23 year-olds catch it. It shouldn't be a reason to close things down as some will want to, including those in CS mayor's office. Just keep distance from others and you ought to be fine.

Bank it. A&M announced random testing yesterday. get your e-mail, report for testing.

So, we will intentionally drive the reported numbers up, panic ensues, world shuts down, economy tanks even further; admin, bureaucrats, and tenured profs in ivory towers remain unaffected

Or maybe they are intentionally trying to locate as many cases of asymptomatic covid as possible, as early as possible so that they can isolate and contact trace? And they do this not to shut everything down but rather so that they can keep things open?

It seems to e that this random testing is a good thing, not a bad thing. And it sure beats the hell out of puling a UNC style "Ooops we have 150 cases so everyone go home" strategy.

Perhaps the Aggies will lead the way in identifying strategies that will help the whole country use testing to keep the economy open while minimizing spread of covid19.

This sounds great, but that's not how it will be communicated to the public. If the local fear machine, aka the media, would actually spread the message as you suggest it would be beneficial to calm the masses, actually calm the squeeky wheel, not masses.

Most likely, they will spit out numbers and misinformation to spread more fear, to get more clicks, to make themselves seem relevant. The media has shown nothing all year that they have any desire to communicate a complete message. None.

Spreadsheet updated but it's got problems on the age % and will need correcting. 90's percentage is never shown and the other categories only left 0.5% for the 90's which leads to -13 people.

What we've learned is that a virus gonna virus.

There is no method of lockdown that has worked.

A positive test is not a case.

A case is not a death sentence.

Texans should never quarantine healthy people.

is this this week's goal post? What happened to flatten the curve until resource are in place? Or. protect the most vulnerable? This is a classic example of mission creep.

I'm not sure what is so hard to understand. This is a microscopic pathogen. It is going to do what it is going to do, period.

Whatever percentage of the number of people that are susceptible to it are GOING to get it. All of the rest is just theater.

You might be able to drag it out (bad strategy IMO), but you are NOT going to stop it. It's not going away until it runs out of vectors.

The last few days, the active case rate has been in the lower 250s, at 251 today. Still at 0.11% of Brazos County population.

Also of note is the last 5 days, 52 of 90 reported cases are in CS zip codes, including 31 of 50 the last 2 days. Yes, the students are back. Good for the economy, bad for Covid numbers.

What past behavior by the current leadership supports your supposition?

Recent "leadership" evidence, or lack thereof, makes me pretty skeptical that you scenario plays out.

Should be easier for them they have the kids cell phones, addresses, and schedules. They probably know everything about everyone out there.

I've decided there is little more painful than watching KBTX anchors try to discuss statewide and local hospitalization rates with anything approaching competence. It wasn't even close to the graphic they were referring in the story. They really need to hire someone who understands to kick these stories in the direction of .....

We were laughing while watching Karla try to interpret the graph. She has a hard time reading stuff anyway and, you are correct, it was painful.

I imagine anyone who is positive and had stepped foot on campus.

Faculty, staff, student, contractors like SSC.

From KBTX:

Quote:

The Brazos County Health District says that the 52 positive cases from the mobile collection site at the Brazos Expo held on August 10-12th will be included in these numbers over the next few days as cases are processed by the health district.

I'm not sure how many tests were performed during this event, but it may explain the large number of tests?

They changed the percentage left for 90's from .5 back to .7

Only 571 tests officially reported so far. The rest mentioned are the drive thru Expo center tests which aren't officially reported yet.

From the BCHD Facebook page.

At the mobile collection site at the Brazos Expo on August 10-12, 806 tests were performed. There were 52 positive confirmed cases from Brazos County. These cases will be included over the next few days as these cases are processed by the health district.

Still 6 in the hospital
Total Hospital Occupancy Rate 69% (-1%), ICU Occupancy 46% (-7%)

Something is messed up with the zip codes. Looks like they didn't update 77801 and especially 77845. Zero cases in 77807 is not uncommon. Or maybe I just need more coffee.
