Anybody know why we are only getting 200 doses this week, while other counties who have been giving out less doses still get their normal 5,000?

Basically lack of demand for first doses. Younger people not showing the urgency in getting the shot as much as the older residents.

So why are other counties still getting doses when we have given out thousands more the last couple weeks.

Potter and Lubbock County are two examples I've seen so far.

My assumption is that the people vaccinating here still have inventory. The county hub is taking walk-ups and they can't use up their 1st dose inventory. Pretty much that way everywhere in the county.

Other parts of the state may have a different situation. The J&J situation may have been part of the reason, but the entire county is seeing a slow down in first dose demand. People are either anti-vaxxers, afraid, just don't care or think it's a priority.

Yeah, the demand is way down. I did get my 1st shot 3 days ago at CVS. Their online appointment portal had every 15 minute time slot open.

Once I was there, the 2 guys there giving shots looked bored out of their minds. I sat for 15 minutes after the shot and no one else came in. They just sat on their phones playing games waiting for whoever was next... eventually.

I have no problem with reducing vaccine allocation if its needed and is fair across the board. We administered more shots in the last week than Lubbock did in the last two weeks combined yet we get 100 real doses and they are given 5,000 once again.

We administered over 9,000 doses last week

In the 7 days ending last Friday (4/30) the county logged that the following residents received shots:

3,174 1st doses

7,421 2nd doses (9,880 allocated)

Not necessarily that Brazos county administered the shots. Just like deaths, shots end up getting credited to the county of residence, regardless where the event occurred. I don't think the disconnect is a big number, but it makes tracking allocation vs shots administered somewhat inexact.

There was 3,870 1st doses allocated to the county last week. There's also inventory. There's also data lag.

The 2nd dose allocation will be whatever is needed to cover the 2nd dose, but those are just following up on 1st doses 3 to 4 weeks ago.

So although last week looked like a relatively big number for vaccinations, the 1st dose numbers were in the neighborhood of 400 - 500 per day vs 1,200-1,400 per day a few weeks ago.

I'm confident, if we needed more doses, we could get more doses. We have gone from telling people to be patient to begging for them to get the shot in the matter of a month.

Today's numbers (includes the weekend): 45 new confirmed cases, 5 probable cases, 17 (-1) Brazos County residents hospitalized, 1,262 tests, 0 deaths

Current Brazos County vaccination numbers: 85,659 (+58) people vaccinated with at least one dose as of 5/2/21. The number of fully vaccinated people is now 59,153 (+367). According to the state's vaccination dashboard, 31.66% of Brazos County residents (16 yrs and older) are now fully vaccinated.

Total COVID hospitalizations in Region N: 43 (+9); 7.71% of total hospital capacity as of 5/1/21.

So if someone was vaccinated somewhere else other than Brazos County, does that get reflected in Brazos County numbers at all? I had my vaccines done through Methodist Hospital in Houston as they got me in before brazos county was even starting to distribute to anyone younger than 75.

Even with the vaccine, it is no guarantee a person won't get the virus. The goal is to help prevent a serious illness, but even that is not 100%. There have even been a few deaths of elderly people in the US who had been fully vaccinated.

I might be wrong, but I would suspect that with elderly people, vaccines may not always create as good of an immune response as they do in younger people, simple because the elderly tend to have weaker immune systems. I'm sure one of our local doctors could confirm or correct me on that point.

Well..... maybe.

The problem is the delay in the state making an "official" count based on the paperwork process. There may actually be a death this past week or two (could be more time), but until the state logs it in their database (the actual date on the certificate) "we" can't see it.

The "process" seems to be getting more efficient (maybe due to less deaths), and a couple weeks after the actual date date of death, it's pretty accurate. Deaths logged 3 weeks after the event are becoming unusual.

I am surprised that often the state has a higher count for Brazos county than what is being reported locally, and it might go on for a week or more. Eventually the state and county reporting get back on the same page, like they are right now with both reporting 249.

But hopefully there have been no deaths the past two weeks!
