The BK location at 29th and TX had lots of area traffic, but very poor access/exit. The downside of a tight corner location.
The burger king on e.29th and s.texas is closed for a remodel, but will reopen soon.
Remodel? Didn't they just open a couple years ago?

I just asked a random guy working construction there this morning and he said it was a remodel. How accurate that is at this point or what the underlying reasons are, I do not know.
The big chains periodically redo everything. Sometimes McDonald's will raze a store down to the foundation for a total rebuild. Age of the store is not necessarily the deciding factor for a remod.
I think Burger King might be changing that location to their new concept called the Whopper Bar. They even serve beer at these locations and I'm thinking they are like hybrid sports bars.

Is this just speculation, or do you have some actual inside information?
Speculation and hope. Why else would they already be remodeling a restaurant that just open no more than 2 years ago (think 1 year ago).
I'm pretty sure that BK is closed permanently. The access to it was horrible. I couldn't believe they went ahead with opening it in the first place with the city requiring them to remove all access from TX Avenue. Sadly, it seemed to be doomed from the start.
Seeing as how the only Whopper Bar locations in the US are in Memphis, Orlando, Miami Beach and New York, I kind of doubt they are putting one in by the courthouse in Bryan, TX.

I saw Merle Norman is in the processing of opening next to Merge in the Toys R Us shopping center (I forget the name of the center).
It looked like Abigail's Attic was closed and all cleaned out. The windows looked pretty darn empty when I drove past today.

Today I spoke with someone with the COB that takes care of permits and the like. Burger King at S. Texas and E. 29th is closed for good. The "remodeling" that the contractors are doing is to strip the place of anything Burger King can use elsewhere.
the Burger King on the corner of Deacon and Texas doesn't seem to be doing that great either (as far as what i can tell from traffic into it).
^ The one at Texas and Deacon is a bad location as well. They should have built it in front of Walmart instead.
I wonder what will take the place of the Burger King that closed though?

Rice Garden had a banner announcing it's Grand Opening, so it's close if not open already.
They have access off the feeder and Texas. I think across from Wal-Mart would be even worse...that area is congested as is.
^ Yeah but it seems like its out of the way and all by itself at that location. I was talking placing it next to the Churches Chicken.
I saw today that that they are finally doing something with the old Exxon at Harvey and Hwy 6. Not restaurant related but still glad to see something happen with that gas station that's been abandoned for close to a decade.

Abigail's Attic has relocated to Madisonville. I talked to the owner and bought some of her old fixtures because the new store is smaller.

I drove by earlier this week and there was a large pile of...merchandise...piled outside of the store. Thoughts and prayers for those waiting for consignment checks.
I'm not sure about the specifics, but it looks like the Pita Pits are for sale, as listed on a local business broker's website. I've eaten there a few times and always liked it, hope it stays around. Anyone else know anything?
Just talked to the owner of Pita Pit and yes it's true. He loves Pita Pit, but it's time for a change.
That BK at Texas and 29th had the worst service, I actually called in a complaint. Hopefully Jack goes in there.

The owner says they're taking consignments and buying outright (clothes, kids stuff, household knick-knacks, etc). There's a phone number on the front door.

I didn't see this listed on the first page but Kamei Japanese Restaurant has a 'Coming Soon' and 'Now Hiring' banner on their store front. It's in the retail center attached to the Towerpoint HEB (around the corner from Whiskey Charlie's).

I'll see if there is any validity to the Ace Hardware closing rumor. Only thing I can say is they never seem to have the hardware I need when I walk in the door. I don't mind paying a little more for the convenience, but their selection is really limited, especially since what I'm after is usually nothing out of the ordinary.
