As long as is is unobstructed in its field vision I've never had issues.

Well I ended up ordering the mini as well due to the sale that was running. Now I'm going down rabbit hole of accessories.

Can you have one $165/month unlimited GB account and 2 devices? ie one device for home use and one portable mini, both using same plan?

While nearly double what I pay now (which is obviously only for home, can't travel with it) I'd consider that for the flexibility.

Pretty sure you can't do that. I only have a mobile Mini device so...

You could get a standard kit with, I think, $120/month residential service, and a mini for mobile applications that you can switch between 10/50/unlimited plans at will.

Each device has its own service plan

Thank you, makes sense.

Thanks - I assumed as much.

In the old days of dish satellite they'd let me add a travel one for a small additional monthly price if also installed at home paying full price there - if I recall correctly.

I do like the idea of starlink for tailgating and some travel we do.

Some opt for a permanent battery installation but I need a portable option in addition to a "go box".

This is my current setup with the Anker Solix C200 and 60watt solar panels.

Speed ranged from 165-232mbps this afternoon in the Texas heat with the lid closed

Got my mini yesterday and tested it out in the back yard. Can't wait to get it to the lease and have good internet service.

How long will this run on the Anker battery setup?

Mine came in yesterday too but was traveling and didn't get home until late.

With the C200 it will run for 8-10 hours depending on weather. With the solar hooked up it will run indefinitely.

Just started 'boondocking' a week or so ago and have been using mini. I just posted this on "The Nerdery: RV Internet thread", but this thread is a lot more informative. I'll start posting here instead.
My post from the other thread:
Quote:

I've been using starlink mini for a couple of weeks now and it has been great. Speeds vary between about 50mb/s to 350mb/s. At first I was a little nervous b/c during setup it wasn't connecting and indicated there were too many obstacles (trying to point it to the sky between trees), but I have learned to just set it up when I arrive and it will work by the time I need to use it. If you do need to use it immediately, then typically a really large opening is needed as it looks to collect the data from about a 120 deg slice of a sphere and anything within that can prevent it from immediately connecting. But if you don't need it for about 30+ minutes, then if you have any kind of break in the trees or other obstacles, it will usually be able to make a connection. However, if the opening is on the small side you might experience some drops or drops in speed.

As far as mounting, I bought the mount from starlink for rv roofs for ~$22 but haven't mounted yet as I would rather not add screws to my roof (it does come with a sealant for the screw holes), also it lays pretty flat on the roof, so if you can't position your rv in an opening then you are screwed. I bought a short 1.25" metal pipe that I screwed into my gray-tank vent pipe and then attached the pipe-mount that came with the starlink. This allows me to rotate it in the direction of any opening around the rv for more flexibility. I think the ideal connection would be if you had a ladder mounted to your rv and run a pole along the side of it (or they even have 3rd party kits for small connectors) and then you could rotate the starlink from the ground, and potentially raise and lower it so you lower it below the wind-profile when traveling. I currently take it down for traveling, except for very short and slow speed moves. I'm nervous about the starlink to the starlink pipe-mount when driving, it seems a little loose when seated in, and I accidentally twisted it off when using screwing in the pipe to the gray-tank pipe (using the mount+starlink for additional leverage) and so I am a little worried I might have slightly compromised the mount. It did keep signal the one time I drove with it, but it was very slow travel and zero overhead obstacles. I think as long as there are no obstacles, it should keep signal at nearly any driving speed. I think I am leaning towards mounting the roof mount and keeping it there and then when I need directional pointing, switch it to the vent mount.

I went with the mini over the standard for a few reasons, and so far not regretting it.

Also, I rushed and bought it when they had the $200 off sale about 6 weeks ago and did so without using a referral code. Just be aware, once you purchase, you can't retroactively add a referral code, even though the code is for a free month of service and you have 30 days to activate the unlimited plan. Customer service is an ai bot that has no problems with you threatening to return the dish prior to activating in order to re-order with a code. Here is mine, but feel free to use the previous ones posted by the more active posters on this thread, just be sure to use one when ordering.

You may want to position your C200 to one side that way when the cannot plugged in there is plenty of clearance to close the case.

Also, did you include a wall adapter to have an alleyway to charge the C200?

I figured that's why you had yours on the side. Regarding have a charging port access, I have a couple of these for use on deer blind and possibly on this case. Not sure I want to drill a hole in case though but can always epoxy the crap out of it.

Heads up, Harbor Freight is doing 40% off Apache boxes tomorrow for anyone wanting to do this build. I'm probably gonna snatch a couple up.

These work for Starlink mini bug out cases and turtle box speaker builds

Are yall using a box that's open on top for the mini or did you cut it? Or really just putting it all in. I got a case on Amazon but didn't think about room for a battery.

I used 3D printed rails to mount my mini to the top of the Apache case

I assume everyone got the email about no longer being able to pause and the $10 month plan is gone now.
normaleagle05
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I don't see that I got an email but I saw it posted on X. There is now a $5/month plan that replaces pause and $10/month. The new plan has unlimited data but it's slow.

Can't say I'm all that upset about it as an occasional/mobile user. Really doesn't seem to change my use case. My plan went into a pause about a week ago after being active for July. I assume the next time I activate it I'll get charged the $50 and have to stay with the $5 after that month of service. But since there's no contract I'm not sure that "no service this month and "pause" are any different?
kyledr04
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I haven't been able to figure out all the details of the $10 plan. I'm on it now but they didn't say in my email that its going away. I wonder when I finally get to a month where I need 50gb or unlimited then it won't be an option to go back to. Not too worried about it

Yeah, that's a bummer. Basically, everyone who had the pause-able plan now pays $5/month even if the device is locked in a closet.

Seems like a bait and switch with the recent big sale getting people to buy the mini then changing the terms on pausing.
