I recently purchased a Starlink mini and wanted to hear about any experiences or lessons learned. Also I you have any must have accessories I need to check out

I have an Apache 4800 I am building out with an Anker Solox c200 and solar panels for an on the go "bug out" solution


It will be used in my car as a mobile office connection as well as a the ranch/lease.

Mini is the best thing I have purchased this year. I have an attachment to put it on my dash. It seems to work well. I plan on mounting it to my roof eventually. Just haven't found a quick detach mount that is lockable too. Leaning towards savage UTV or Star mount

I have a SatGear mount that is ok for the money, but their service wasn't good.

If you're running it off a nominal 12v system you'll need an appropriate cable. I went to a 10-ft Starlink waterproof barrel end to a usb-c, which still requires a 100W USB outlet.. The 15m cable it came with wouldn't supply enough voltage across that length running off of a 12v power bank.

We just drove 12 hours with ours on the Jeep roof rack and had internet streaming the whole way. It's been great for remote camping safety without a plan ahead of time as well. Don't have to say where I'm going days ahead of time if I can provide live updates.

I bought a backpack that could easily fit my Starlink, laptop, and other daily items. Beyond that, maybe a few connections for different power sources.

I have had this a couple of months and absolutely love it. I travel a lot to areas with poor cell service so my truck WiFi doesn't cut it. It is easy to mount and remove and it came with a plug for my Can Am.

For vehicle mounting, which is my primary use case, I've considered getting a 12v step up transformer to hard wire into my Jeep. I'm currently running off a Bluetti that is charging off my vehicle 12v at near the same rate as the Mini draws power.

Going down the vehicle mounting rabbit hole... I 3d printed this design from MakerWorld; I don't have a picture of mine assembled so these are the designers pictures, but it is a great magnetic exterior mount. Not necessarily the most secure but my plan was to remove it each night anyway so it is convenient in that respect.

I concur the Starlink is awesome. We ditched the dish at the tailgate and stream games now - so much nicer and speeds are not a problem even on gameday in Aggieland.

An Aggie buddy just drove the Alaskan Highway and used a standard sized starlink with a commercial mount to his roof rack. He never removed it and it wasn't stolen. It was so cool to be able to stay in touch and I even got the 'Look at this f'n BEAR' FaceTime on afternoon.

What a time to be alive.

I got one about 2 months ago. It's amazing. We drove to Colorado and back plus all over while we were there. I laid in on the dash on top of a silicone mat with a 12v adapter. Worked great.

About a week after we got home, my internet went out. Stuck it out in the yard by my office window and kept working.

With very few long trips planned for a while and regular home cable internet plus phone tethering, I don't think I'll need it much. So I put it on the $10 plan so it'll stay active in case I need it but cost almost nothing.

I tried a window mount but didn't like it. Would be good with a sun roof. Haven't tried an external mount since the dash was fine.

If you get one, find 12v and usb cables from Amazon and test them. Plus a usb battery with enough output. I intend on getting a bigger powerbank at some point.

My buddy has Starlink mini for his ranch house, Rv, etc. he loves it, throws it in the truck and uses it where ever he's at, his young son games off of it too while they have tvs running, plenty of juice. He said his down load speed is regularly over 100 mps or higher

I'm thinking about getting one for the motor home to

The family ranch has regular star link, best thing since sliced bread out there- almost as good as fiber. My mom loves it .. as do all the grand kids because they can all get on at the same time and it doesn't even slow Down

Don't have the mini (yet) but we have the regular one at deer lease and zero bad things to say about it. It's freaking awesome!

I'm debating on picking up the mini and running as backup for if I lose power at home and when traveling and writing it off as business expense. I like the mount ideas! Would be great for Polaris riding around ranch with zero cell service.

The "zero bad things to say" thing is what amazes me the most about these things. I had used Starlink for over 2 years now and absolutely love it. Nothing bad to say at all. Bought it so I could work remote from home. Huge improvement over the local internet service down here outside of Corpus.

Heck mine even fell 10' off my roof one night and started right back up.

Received yesterday and I have built out a "go bag" for the Starlink mini.

I used the Apace 4800 case and mounted the mini to the lid of the Apache and am using a Anker Solix C200 battery pack with a 60w foldable solar panel. I'm also carrying the Starlink mini AC plug and cable, 2 isb charging cables, a Anker 3 port charging adapter and small tripod.

The mini works with the case closed and I'm getting 100mps + with the lid closed.

I have the old starlink mobile at our prior home which is now our Airbnb. I have the regular system installed in our current home. Absolutely zero issues. Two teenage daughters plus the wife using every device at the same time along with me throwing a large audio files down the pipe for my voiceover business has never slowed down at all.

I'm curious as to why you switched to the $10 plan to stay active? I have been using the $50 plan and then stop it when I'm not using the device. Once I connect, it starts billing the $50 month again.

Does the $10 plan apply to one of the higher $$ plans?

That was me. We switched from dish to the mini and have had zero regret . I expected download speed issues in ganeday - but so far we have no issue. We run one television, so it's not like we are running a bank of tvs but so far so good. I can see at least a couple other tailgates doing same from our spot.

Yeah I don't think you need to mount it on the roof. We just threw ours on the dash and it worked perfectly in the mountains of Colorado.

I mostly did it for convenience if I need to use it unexpectedly with less hassle than restarting. I hadn't even tried holding service. My first month was on unlimited and I knew I didn't want to keep that active.

I don't think I paid enough attention to how suspending and reactivating would work. I just knew I didn't want to leave it on unlimited.

Apache 3800 case from Harbor Freight. 3D print rails for the top for eh case to mount the Starlink. Use portable battery pack like the Anker Solix C300. Pluck out the layout from the foam in the case to hold solar panels, c300, cables etc. it will work with the case closed
