I've been following this thread and that's what has inspired me to build something. Just not sure on power consumption of the mini and am barely into my research.

That's crazy it works with the case closed!

My vision is having a clamp mount for frame of the deer blind with a permanent cable running into blind. Basically just put the starlink antenna on the blind every time I show up and plug it in. I'll then have some sort of battery pack for the blind to power it.

Amazon has the Anker Solix c300 with 60watt solar panels on sale

So there is a plan where you can just sit on it and only pay $50/month when you actually use it? That may accelerate my timeline to purchase one

It's awesome. I use it when needed.

I'm looking at it and that's might be easiest way to do this. I don't love their solar panel and have no idea how I will attach to deer blind though. I'm chewing on this to figure out what to do here, but thinking a permanent solar panel on deer blind connected to some sort of battery pack, either like anker one or 2-12v Lp04 batteries, is a better option.

Some many options. I built the case as a bugout/on the go solution but found it works for nearly all of my scenarios

Do you keep the battery pack in the case with it? There are a bunch of options online with precut cases but I'm thinking just getting one from Harbor Freight or similar and customizing it for my own use.

Yes. The case holds the Starlink in the lid, the battery pack, solar panels, cables and accessories. To power it I just connect one cable to the Starlink and close it up. Fully portable.

The drill battery adapter that Savage UTV sells would be what I'd want to emulate. That would be handy for me.

I've seen a bunch of these but nothing in Rigid so far, which is what all my tools are.

I'd ask them. Maybe they can get you an adapter.

Is that the 3800 case? And what did you use to attach the antenna to the top of the case?
RockwallAg

This one is a 4800.

I've built out both, one for a buddy 3800 and the 4800 is mine.

I wanted the extra room for accessories and solar panels (foldable 60w)

I'd like the extra space, so 4800 works for me. Just curious what you used to attach it to the lid?

3D printed rails.

If you don't have a 3d printer you can buy them here:

I might have to buy my father in law one of these for his ranch

Then setup a wifi weather station.

He's always wanting to know the weather exactly there.

For $10 a month he'd go bonkers being able to pull it up on his phone

I am down so many rabbit holes right now on what I am going to do with mine it's not even funny.

1) Grab Box with internal power

2) deer blind box that stays in blind and has solar power, just connect antenna and go

3) maybe a UTV mount and adapter

4) tripod for emergency home use

I hate you guys… lol

So...
At $50 per month for 50GB, would there be any issues with using it for a home internet setup?

My dad lives in rural Colorado with no real internet options and 50GB would be plenty for him (at least until he figured out how to stream everything).

Edit: Thanks, all.

My only concern would be the strength of the signal around different parts of the house. If it's a small house or he only needs it in one area I'd imagine it would be fine.
JeremiahJohnson

You can add an external wireless router if the signal is bad (too far away from the source).
ttha_aggie_09
How long do you want to ignore this user?

Yeah, my main concern would be the coverage area. I think the roam/mini has a built in router and imagine it is not very powerful and only meant for close proximity use.

Rydyn,

You could also consider the regular starlink kit for his house. We run this at deer cabin and it works extremely well. They actually sell refurbish kits for like $499 and then it is $120/monht. Something else to consider if planning to use for whole house.

The mini is primarily designated to be used a a mobile internet connect. If you are primarily using it for residential purposes I would go with the full size startle and a permanent mount.

Starlink offers low cost routers to extend the range of either or you could use a third party mesh setup for better coverage

Ordered mine due to the sale.

Also ordered the Unique Componentry Starbox magnetic mount for it, and the Anker battery. It's a slick little setup that'll let me move it between vehicles pretty easily.

For those of you that have thrown it on the dash when traveling is there any trick to getting it to maintain connection? I bought one a few months ago but haven't been able to get it to obtain internet while driving around. Would use it so my son can stream games on espn while traveling around.

Following this. Is this unit affected by cloud density like a DISH receiver is? I'm a weather junkie and with Dish tv I only learn that the clouds are thick or rain is hard to my south before tv loses signal.

I prop that on my dash. It seems to work well when i am on the highway. But obviously better with view of Northern sky. Roof mount would always give you that view.
