Cold this morning but only saw one spike. Had about 15 pigs last night.

One small buck and four does outside Comfort,Tx. Will give it another try in the morning before church.

Bucks are finally chasing down here in Duval Co.

I sure need to head to the woods. Haven't been able to hunt a single day this year, sadly. But, I might get to sneak away with my boys at the end of the week for a quick trip.

I'm hoping this massive unit is still hanging around. He needs a dirt nap, bad. Anyone have a guess at his weight? I have no idea.

It's a 2500# feeder. We braced and buried the legs a number of years ago. You don't need 2 guesses to figure out why.

They have never knocked ours over, but the jerks did rub on the legs enough to bend the feeder up real bad. One other type we used to have, they pushed on the legs so much and spread them out, which lowered the feeder. They then knocked off the spinner and timer, dumping a nice 1000# pile of corn for a piggy buffet. We declared war at that point, and started trapping whole sounders in our rage.

I just left deer camp after almost 12 days of being out there. I know I'm getting older because I didn't take a buck in almost two weeks of hunting, but the trip was incredible, and I'm very thankful. Ten years ago me would have been pretty upset with myself for not getting a big buck, but I put two does in the freezer, shot a couple of pigs and a couple of yotes, and my liver is still intact as far as I know.

What I do know is that I left with less than what I came with when I first climbed into the blind. That is definitely a perspective that has improved with age.

I'm probably the worst millennial of all time with my phone, and I always forget to take pictures, but I did remember to take one to show a buddy the mobile gantry set up I have.

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving, and here is to closing out the season strong.

I got a similar one that has 2 winches … one to lift deer and the other is to skin the deer. Really is a time saver, i cant remember the name. Will try to find it.

Its great. It is super easy to use and makes life a lot easier. It also swivels so you can turn it and easily swing the deer around to load in the truck.

What I do is split the chest open on the ground and then hang it to gut and skin. It saves your back and you do not have to crawl around on the ground to clean the deer.

This is the first and probably only time he'll be in the deer blind with me. He makes more noise than the kids. But it's also a lot of him trying to look outside and see what's going on. So you may be right.

Shorts and short sleeves down here near Freer. Praying for a hint of breeze to blow through these blind windows.

Last chance this weekend to get in the stand. Made it out with my youngest to sit the stand with me and he was naturally banging the walls and crinkling wrappers from his snack. All good though, love spending the time with him.

BIL is in the stand closest to me with his youngest. He takes a shot at 10 to sunset and says he's sure he hit. Waits 10 min and starts looking before he runs out of daylight. He can't take the 2 year old into the brush to track it so I start packing up and let my kid know he doesn't have to be quiet anymore. We're both banging around cleaning up our stuff and I look out the window and see a doe just eating at the feeder none the wiser.

I shoot through a little brush and drop her with a great vital shot in and out. She's kicking around and I notice another doe 30 yds over that was just looking around. It comes in closer and I take the shot quartering hard towards me so I wait for the chest shot which I've never taken. Take the shot and she runs 40 yds and tumbles dead. Turns out to be a young buck with no spikes. I'm terrible at judging age and sex, and we don't have trail cams yet. Is what it is, I had the tags for them. Found the whole bullet mushroomed before the stomach cavity (139 gr 6.5 CM). Right through the heart.

I leave them and my stuff and take my kid to watch his cousin while we search for the doe my BIL shot.

Right at dark my other BIL and FIL are in a new stand 600yds from us and they drop a hog.

Drop the kids off at the bunkhouse with Grandma and Mom/Aunt. Go back to tracking with my BIL. We tracked through thick brush and game trails for probably a half mile and finally lost the trail.

At the shot site there was quite a bit of blood and some hair. In the brush for the first couple hundred yards we would find drops then small puddles. The path she traced was zigzagging around the property and led us to the area we know they bed in. As it got further along the trail the blood turned into consistent drops every 2-3 ft and all of a sudden it just stopped.

Anyone know what could have happened? I guessed glancing single lung shot. BIL said he saw blood on the animal as it was running off in the chest, on the side he shot.

Either way we had a great time ending our first season on the new family place. No one can make it up for the last two weekends.

What color hair did you find? Was it white? I'm guessing low shot and y'all probably pushed that deer several times during tracking… if you're not finding good positive sign, back out and wait a little while (like an hour or two).
