Didn't shoot anything, but what a great day! Got to watch some rut action, a coyote hunt mice, carcara ( idk if I spelled that right) vocalize while playing, and a hog scream louder that anything I've ever heard. Three bucks and one hot doe.

My uncle got one this morning at the family place in East Texas. He shot it 30 minutes after his son said he passed on it, because he wanted to give it another year.

Had a bout of neuropathy in my big toe overnight which ruined my sleep. Last time I looked at the clock it was 5:06, alarm was set for 5:15 so I just turned it off. Slept till about 7:30, got up and made coffee. Wifey got up at about 8:00 and opened the blinds. There was a young spike standing in the yard staring at us. We watched him a few minutes until he sauntered off. I gathered my stuff and headed out to the ranch at about 10:00. Did a little shooting then stopped by the Oakwood Fire Department BBQ fundraiser for lunch. Drove around to the other side of the ranch to eat. I forgot to get utensils so I had to improvise with the beans and potato salad. I got into a box blind left by one of the fired ranch hands. It was off and on misting rain and I saw a lot of deer movement. 3 does and two yearlings does came out at 2:00 or so at about 200 and crossed my line of sight quickly but I was too busy on TexAgs to get a shot off. They went down to a pond about 400 yds away and walked and splashed around in the shallow water. A while later someone shot nearby and they started heading back to the woods. They crossed back into my shooting lane at about 175. I took the biggest doe but could have taken another as the others just stood around wondering what to do. Had to hurry my skinning/ quartering and finished right as a downpour kicked off. Overall a good day

His face looked happy in the pic. And honestly, I probably would be too. That's a good deer. Bet he looked huge coming out with that high rack.

Who else is back at it this morning? After sweating it out yesterday afternoon, I'm back in the sweat lodge this morning to enjoy the 92% humidity.

Back at in in Coleman county, nothing yesterday. Seen a few here and there but none to let the air out of.

Lead the day off with a 10 minute "discussion" with the father in law about how the feeders were going to go off an hour earlier, but they're still going off at the same time…

I'm in NW Leon county and it's pretty slow here too. Acorns raining down and covering the ground. Gonna be slow for awhile.

Really seeing better bucks this year. No trophy, but quality is better. First year supplementing protein and a good spring helped I feel like.

I don't blame him for pulling the trigger. He has spent many years sitting with his boys, letting them do all the shooting. He will catch some grief for a couple days but it is all good. We are fortunate to have some really good deer at the family place, at least for East Texas.

This is God's Country, his creation, it all belongs to Him. Give thanks to God for the opportunity to harvest one of God's animals. The opportunity for Fathers and Husbands to teach and pass on something to your son, daughter, wife, family members, friends and/or others who need to learn. While you are out there, think how you are blessed to be in God's Country. Let this time be refreshing, uplifting, and reflect on how you can serve your family, your wife, your friends. Show them the way, step up and be a man that protects, provides, loves them through it all. Pass on a legacy, a tradition. Stand up to the evils of this world to protect your future. Remember that they are watching you, relying on you to show them the way. It not easy to be a man these days, but you have help. Remember who created it all while you are out there in that deer stand today. Your family is counting on YOU to be the man you were created to be. Show them the way! It's your job as a man to lead them , not the world's job. Do you want the world teaching them? Man-Up and be the husband, father, and friend before it's too late. Just look all around you, don't let your pride get in the way, ask for help and He will give it to you.
Give thanks, pray, and go be the man that your family needs in these times.
God bless

Couldn't get the side by side to start yesterday, the Ags didn't show up last night, and opened the door to the tower blind this morning to find a raccoon so had to go with plan B.

First time I've seen this buck come out in shooting hours.

Hopefully he will repeat this soon.

No one on our Leon County place saw a deer after two long days of hunting four stands. No neighbors shot either. I only heard three shots several miles away all weekend. Unbelievable! Too much acorns, wind, and heat.

Weird. The ranch I hunt straddles the Leon/Freestone county line. Just outside of Oakwood. I got in the stand about 1pm yesterday and started seeing deer almost immediately. About 1/2 mile north of the Leon County line. I shot a doe at about 2:30. I took my son out this evening to a different spot. He stood my blown over tripod up and got into it at 3:35. He shot a doe at 3:55.

Glad you are seeing deer! We are a few miles from Hilltop Lakes and had deer all over the place a couple of weeks ago.

After 3 days of sitting on the stand for 10 hours per day and not seeing even one deer, a huge 8 pointer had pity on me and committed suicide by trotting by me during a rain shower at last shooting light this evening.

We didn't see much at all near Evant. It was excellent to spend some quality time with my son in the blind.
