Me and my bud here in the stand in Bandera county…. Not quite as warm as Saturday but need a little more breeze. Going to wait after dark and see if any pigs come in early.

Went out this afternoon for a while. Got to the ranch at about 3. Stepped into a small patch of woods to get "unburdened by what has been". Busted a small doe out and she ran across the pasture to the woods. Got into the stand and saw only a couple pigs in the distance. Got out at about 5:30.

Fighting Texas Aggies 87' and 23'…. My son got a nice South Texas 8 yesterday morning.
My buddy who hunts at the ranch with me took his youngest out this evening. The kid killed his first. A nice 9pt.
Staying at a buddies property on the Navasota bottom that we hunt once a year. No stands, no feeders, no disturbance.
Got here late so went out after dark and parked my 4wheeler a mile and a half north of camp. About to start rattling back that direction at first light.

Hunting near Castell but haven't seen the buck I'm looking for yet. Had hoped my son would but I think there's been too much activity the last two weeks.
I walk to this stand along an old rock fence above the Llano River each year. The resident ranchers are the descendants of the original German homesteaders.

When I got blood in my eye and want meat for the table a .243 is my go to. 35 to 350 yds it works every time. I shoot 90gn Speers at about 3350 fps.agsalaska said:

Hell yes it is. That's all we do. We have that bottom pasture crossfenced and pay zero attention to it so long as the fencing is keeping the cows in or out depending on the time of year. I mean no human beings go back there for ten months. Then opening weekend we go back there and count deer, then decide what to shoot.

It took a week of hard hunting in Leon County but three bucks and a doe in freezer with our family of hunters.
