where you seeing that? Evo?bjork said:Additional carbon rods. Both through the shovel and tail. If you're a charger/lay an edge, I'd go with them.ChoppinDs40 said:What's the difference in the black vs standard? I did eye a set of ripstick 88's very lightly used demos I found for sale, but as cheap as I am, I also know condition is subjective if you can't see them in person. I'll give the lines a couple of seasons and if I don't like them I'll sell or trade them.
I'll probably grab some Ripstick 96 blacks before the season is over.
Reminder, Rips are dedicated L/R ski. The profile is tuned to each.
Looking at the 96/175s
Ski is stupid light, so I'll take the stability. I'm on the fence if I'll de-tune. Will bring a hard gummy the first morning to evaluate.
I started poking around for deals this morning and pulled the trigger on 96 in 188 (50% off right now all over the web). I'll mount shifts and use them for spring touring also.
Quiver now: 80 / 84 / 96 / 104 / 112 / 120.
80 / 112 are what I bring to the hill 75% of days (morning ski, afternoon ski). Ripsticks will get into that rotation as well. 112 is also new snow ski until 8" or so. Then 120 for the obvious days. 104 is touring dedicated ski, it's also a great corn ski - but 96 will 100% be replacing that. I haven't touched the 84 in two seasons. Heading to Craigslist.
Edit: Oops, outed my ****posting sock. This is RR.

Looks like Skiessentials.com has some big discounts on certain lengths of ripsticks and ripstick blacks along with some good ski/binding combos. They mount free and ship quick in my experiences with them.
oh snap they have the 175s in the regular ripsticks.RangerRick9211 said:

I grabbed a 189 from here. Looking slim this morning.
Hell yeah. They are a killer ski. You'll lose a top end that requires a 50+ deg. carve edge angle to access. Beyond that, it will be a lighter ski that you can throw around + moderate carving.ChoppinDs40 said:oh snap they have the 175s in the regular ripsticks.RangerRick9211 said:

Given I'm a total blue jean wearing, open jacket flapping on a green bombing between 4yr olds, bourbon flask drinking Texan on the slopes, you think these would suit me vs. the blacks?

ohh what about deez?

Same setup I have except for regular bindings vs demo bindings. That's a good deal - you'll be happy.
I have some buddies who do this every year. They wait until after spring break and then just watch the weather. When there's a decent dump somewhere they take off and run up to Colorado for a couple of days.MouthBQ98 said:
Good point, I didn't realize some of them were that much taller. I'm a relatively light/small skier so I don't put that much stress on the gear but I can see where someone big that goes hard could wear out the movable parts so they loosen up over time.
I'm just not experienced enough to really tell the difference, most probably. Haven't been on enough different setups that weren't rentals. My new skis have regular markers so I'll get a better feel for it.
Totally different topic, I am considering making a college kid style long weekend road trip to get in some more ski time, one long drive up from texas to southern Colorado, find the cheapest hotel in the area, ski 2-3 days, then a long drive back. It would be maybe a weekend or two before Easter. I've never gone so late in the year, is it worth going to Purg or wolf creek that late in the season?
