Sorry to post again but if it was ME from Austin It's probs best to either fly into SLC direct and do Solitude or Brighton or Austin to Denver and ski Loveland or drive and ski WC or Purg. For the extra $20 a day per person the skiing will be much better and the Transportation will be easier in UT.
I wouldn't go Austin to Denver (4 hour layover) to Durango and then have to rent a car and Drive Red Mountain to Pagosa and then up to Purg. If Purg is the choice id just drive but I wouldn't drive past WC to get to Purg.
If I was going to fly, I'd rather fly direct into UT than Denver for Loveland or to Connect to Purg anyday. The drive from SLC to Brighton/ST is the same as DEN to LL. If I wanted the easiest to plan and didn't mind driving to save the money I'd go to WC and stay in South Fork. I say this because if I'm getting in a plane, I want to be going somewhere that's sick, Not somewhere that a default because every where around it is $279 a day. Loveland is great of you live here but I wouldn't plan a vacation around it. Hell I can't even go there for a full day without wanting more.
I honestly think you'd really like Brighton. Heres a trail map. You can see its got alot of mixed Beg/Int terrain at the top off Snake Creek, Crest Express is almost all intermediate and alot of fun, and BackBone to Main St off Milly is long and fun.
It's a solid 3 peak hill w GORGEOUS views vs if you come to CO you'd be riding a single or double ridge on one peak AND THEY HAVE NIGHT SKIING. So if its a trip w the focus of skiing it really has everything you're looking for in a hill. It's $102 a day which is a great price, you can fly Austin to SLC direct and its 45 minutes from AirPort. Solitude Will have more lodging options. If you can't find anything on BCC. Speaking personally, I'd 1000% rather stay outside SLC snd drive to Solitude or Brighton than stay in West Golden at a comfort inn and Drive to LL.
