Here's what my friend had to offer. He hasnt seen the updated pics. I'll see if he can take a look at those tomorrow. Already late there.

"1 French hunting hanger late 18th c value ca 100 euro this blade is in poor condition
2 French cuirassiers heavy cavalry saber Napoleonic between 1800 and 1815 depending on the signature on the back of the blade , stamps and condition ca 1500 euro ( lower value if its been re fitted with a later blade this model has been used up to 1870 ) it all depends on the date year and signature.
3 French Yatagan Bayonet for chassepot rifle period between 1860 and 1875 , value 80 euro
4 Italian saber or saber made for export to south America around 1880 value 150 euro
5 and 6 Cilic Saber probably Turky or Iran around 1850-80 depending on the blade damask or not worth around 1200 to 1500 each
7 an Englisch or US bayonet WW1 value around 50 euro"

To the left of number 5 is an African spear. Curious to know what the bladed pole is to the left of it.

Interesting. I dont recall seeing anything like those.

The spear- Maybe not African. Any time you see barbs, you think fishing or harpoon. The steel doesnt really look old, aged, or used. Maybe something made for sale to tourists?

I wonder if the other bladed one might have been some type of tool. Reminds of a small billhook. Possibly used for harvesting fruits or vegetables?

It would be cool to take them to Antiques Roadshow and see what they saw.

If they cant get it sold locally, they might consider Ebay. Ive had good luck with it and it's not as much of a pain as it sounds. Sometimes it can take a while though.

They might consider auctions. Rock Island, Morphys, etc. Just expect fees to be high. Theyll typically handle shipping for you.

The easiest sell might be contacting Oliver Pinchot with Auctions Imperial. He buys similar stuff to put in his auctions. Not a huge fan of buying from his auctions but Ive had good luck selling to him. Id ask for an offer on all of it and then he should negotiate up some.

Sofe Design in Richardson is a Texas based auction company that could handle it. But, the owner's reputation is less than stellar.

Any ideas on the Japanese style sword 4th from the right?

Our Father/Grandfather and now GG Grandfathers brought back some from WW2 that they had tactically acquired. SOME of those were 600yr old priceless antiques and some of them were made just before the war with whatever materials were available. (I've seen one with an aluminum handle).

Of course, knock offs can be found at a Tiger Mart these days.

That was my question since I know NOTHING about where to even start. Is it a $500 dollar offer or is it a $5000 dollar offer. For those that have some knowledge about these, what's a fair offer for all of them, sight unseen?

This may be out there… but my grand father had a small collection of swords that got distributed between grand kids a while back. The one I got looks to be a pretty standard doves head SS officer sword.

Is there any market for these? Closest picture I can find is the sixth one down.

My thoughts exactly! I don't have any knowledge to offer, and I'm not really into swords, but this is a damn interesting thread.

If we take that collector at his evaluations using the low end on his estimates in USD $4680 ish, with a 1:0.92 exchange rate, is the value of the swords he put an estimate on in this collection. so an offer around $4,000 would be "fair" possibly? I'm pretty sure the son would accept something like that.

I was thinking of taking these to get cleaned up, then thought, No, I need a real expert to do that, would hate the polishing process to do some historical damage to these engravings.

Just a note on selling this stuff. Full values are tough for an individual to get. There's just not that many buyers and reaching them can be hard. Dealers can get full value because they have a long customer list they've spent years building. These things aren't like guns where the market is loaded with buyers that consider a 20% discount a steal. That's why i said Ebay is the best route ive found to reach a good number of buyers. And even that can take time. Selling at auction can get full value but then they take 40%. Selling as a group is going to equate to taking a hit too. Most collectors will have their eye on one or two of these. If it were me, Id consider any reasonable offers.
