What is everyone on the OB using to kill EVERYTHING on a caliche pad? I have tried roundup and my weeds seem to be roundup resistant. Need to get this taken care of, losing control of my pad.

Have plenty of surfactant in it?

Yep. Have just noticed the last two years I have been getting less of a kill with the same mix I have always used to spray around our barns. My uncle said the same thing for his barns too.

Would something like Eraser Max be more effective? It has a combo active ingredient of Glyphosate and Imazapyr.

Or would something like Total Vegetation Control with just Imazpyr for the active ingredient be better?

I've also seen that regular roundup is not working as well around my place.
I started using this to spray some fencelines around the house and it knocked it down to bare soil.

Do you mind spraying diesel around your place? Diesel with a splash of triclopyr would definitely do it.

I just want the damn weeds gone and my pad around my barn back from looking like Jumanji! Don't really care what method I use as long as it's lethal and effective.

I do deal with about 30k bbl of produced water a day at work. Gonna come fill up the water trailer with it and water down the pad. Will report back.

^^^ This plus a little of remedy is what I use for pads and fence lines.

Used to be fairly inexpensive until they decided the glyphosate (and covid) would kill us all.

Okay so I at least wasn't far off. Looks like one of the deals I was asking about called Total Vegetation Control and RM43 are the same thing. You rat bass-turd weeds are going down!

I don't wear a mask when I spray it because I don't have a perpetually open wound between my legs, but defiantly don't think glyphosate is good for any living being lol.

possibly, my buddy is the one who uses it, let me find out from him, he put some down on a pad he built and the weeds dont come back, the neighbor used the same thing after him and they have had good luck

Mojave 70 EG

https://www.solutionsstores.com/mojave-70-eg-herbicide

Says it's designed specifically for pads .. it will turn anything green to brown dirt. My buddy said it's a pre-emergent and post emergent that is best used when you add the granular Mojave to round up or other weed killers. The round up kills the weeds and the. Mojave or Sahara keep them from coming back. It says it works on 150 diff weeds, vines and brush, used for clearing lots and pads. If you read the link above it tells you specifically how to apply it. My buddy said he mixes it with Roundup and it kills everything in site

The other one Is Sahara DG herbicide …

Thanks Fullback!

Gonna try RM43 and Mojave mixed together on my skid sprayer for the UTV. From my research it's a pretty potent combination.

That should do it … he said the railroads have been using the combo for years to keep weeds off the gravel sides and tracks

Running some quick comparison and math based upon how i spray:

RM 43 Main Active Chemical Glyphosate 43.68% Imazapyr, isopropylamine salt 0.78%

Mojave Main Active Chemical - Imazapyr- 7.78%, Diuron- 62.22%

Mix for me:

1.25 Gallons RM 43 per 50 gallons plus 2 cups of Remedy: Cost per 50 gallons = about $100 and will take me about 100 gallons per treatment x 2 times a year = $400.

Mojave recommended ratio is 0.5 - 1 lb per gallon @ $12/lb. Assuming I went to only the min that would be 25 lb per 50 gallons or 50 lbs for 100 gallons = $600 per treatment x 2 times a year = $1,200

---
The imazaphyr (salt) is what is driving up the cost on the latter and will keep things knocked back. I just do not have the budget like the state or a railroad to use Mojave to do a similar job.

Nice analysis … Mojave adds some cost but I don't think you would put it out but once a year or once every few years .. I'm not sure how long a treatment will last?

It's been a while since I took Merkel's class……. The first one is essentially "Roundup Extended Control". Does imazapyr have some soil activity as well as systemic? Roundup certainly needs a helper on more mature broadleaf weeds (especially perennials). I recall diuron having lots of soil activity and hanging around).

Edit: I thought Hyvar was diuron, but it's bromacil.

Yes. Imazapyr is a residual.

FWIW, I mix my own hopped-up variant of RM43 by buying glyphosate and imazapyr (27%) separately and adding a small amount of non-ionic surfactant. I don't have my mix percentages handy, but I've been using them for several years now (although I didn't do it at all this year due to excessive dryness preventing vegetation growth).

The percentage of imazapyr (compared to glyphosate) in my mix is higher than that in the RM43 (which is a good product).

Unfortunately, about the best length of time I can get on control is 9 months here in Central Texas. Unlike diamonds, vegetation control is not 'forever'. Like they say, all it takes is time, money and effort.

But, control your vegetation, or it will control you. Pick one.

yeah, round up or RM43 will control vegetation a about 4-5 weeks and its all back and growing! Just standard maintenance, I guess the Mojave extends that control time but nothings forever!

My cocktail tends to last about 6-months, but is only a barrier for so long depending on the weather. This year I may not have to spray again other than a couple of spots.

I looked at upping the imazapyr percentage in my cocktail, but that stuff is expensive as well.

Always looking for new cost effective ideas and this thread is helping me brainstorm.

For what it's worth….

A glyphosate - 2,4-d and/or Dicamba mix will smoke any week or grass out there. Plain "Weed-b-gone" concentrate from the Walmarts will fulfill that. The long term is where is gets trickier. Hyvar (Bromacil) might be an option.
