Not if it's the cheap crap my wife has bought for me at the dollar store. It doesn't stick to jack.

That snake would snicker and say - "that's the best ya got?"

Funny, my wife doesn't buy her stuff at the dollar store.

Ah, Virgina copperheads. I was moving logs to line the driveway of my Mom and Dad's house in Southern Virgina. (Clarksville). Picked one log up and felt something wiggle. I had picked up the biggest copperhead I have ever seen. What was crazy to me was he was grey and green and not the copper color I am used to down here in South Texas. I still get the creeps thinking about picking it up 30+ years later!

I was looking at a sweeping live oak for a ground blind for bow season.. it had a limb about waist high I was looking at pushing on to see how much wind would move it. And then bang got bit on the pinky and it started to swell in about 4 or 5 min.

I called my BL who's an er doc, who has done study on snake bites, He said Anti-venom is 19k a vile and you would likely get 4 min…. The study had shown that some bites are dry, the remaining are mild to medium or worse. He said he thought some people have a Genetic likelihood of being less affected but not 100% proven yet.
So take Tylenol no ibuprofen or naproxen at all. Keep it elevated all day and even night if possible. And just monitor the swelling in to see how bad it got…

I got bit sat at 11 and I'll show pictures assoc. with it
First pic is day of second is day2 and third pic day 3

Had a buddy (good Ag) who grew up in Lexington. He always told the story of getting bit by a copperhead before school. Went to the doctor with a very swollen foot. Doctor sent him back to school.

I'm near Sutherland Springs and I've killed 2 so far this year on our little place.

My in-laws live in New Berlin and usually kill 1-3 per year too.

I've seen a bunch of videos that would beg to differ. All kinds of snakes chilling right in the middle of multiple of those devices, without a care in the world.

I've never seen any scientific evidence proving that those (or moth balls, or snake away, or anything else) actually works.

I could be 1000% wrong, but I think most of the
advocates for their methods are anecdotal. I've talked to people who claim "I have them out, and I've never seen a snake." But they don't understand any of the other environmental factors that might be impacting their observations (or that maybe they just are missing the snakes that are there).

Personally- I tried snake away, moth balls, and multiple sprays. Nothing even deterred the snakes in the slightest. My dog got bit my a copperhead who was literally sitting on top of a pile of snake-away.

I have no personal experience with the ground vibrator/sonic devices (mole deterrents)- but I would have to see actual evidence to counter the videos I've seen and pro's I've spoken with that say they don't work.

Just my observations, not trying to be confrontational at all. I would LOVE to be proven wrong, because my solution would be SO easy.

In HS, I worked clearing brush between Stockdale and La Vernia... Sandhills are full of Cottonmouths. My place was between Floresville and Poth and we had rattlesnakes, but never saw copperheads.
I'm in the sandhills. Never seen a rattlesnake which is fine with me. Just copperheads and corals.

Copperheads are mostly out at dawn and dusk during the spring and fall and nocturnal during the summer. As stated they tend to travel around borders like trees, houses, porches, fences, etc. so putting traps along those is ideal. You can also just use minow boxes as they can slither in and not get out, believe that is what MouthBQ does.

Of course at our property they like to hang out on the dog runs our outside of our garages in the mornings. I got most of the people who visit our property to have flashlights that have a black light feature since you can find scorpions and snakes at night easier. We have an old creek bed that we take people hiking at and I know they are there but we have never seen one since it is perfect camouflage for them.

Copperheads do glow very little, at least in my experience. Rattlesnake tails do but their bodies are pretty faint. We found this out at one part of our property that has a ton a scorpions and ran across snakes a few times.

That' pretty cool, especially since it seems to work! I have a cousin that lives in Magnolia who seems to have an ongoing copperhead problem despite all of his efforts to clear brush, woodpiles, etc. I'll have to pass this on and report back with his results.

I completely understand. There has been many a morning where I've got a flashlight in one hand & ant killer in the other following those little devils back to their hole at 4:45 in the morning.

Any chance I get to ***** about leaf cutters, I take. I am not so sure the insidious little *******s are not in cahoots with the copperheads.

Get a styrofoam cup. Mix a few spoonfuls of sugar with a few spoonfuls of ant powder. Follow the leaf cutters to find where their holes are. Sprinkle in and around the hole. They tend to have more than one hole so find them all. Go out and check the next day. Repeat the process of following the ants to find any holes you might have missed. You should see a difference in a few days.

In-laws in Wilson County on some acreage and I've never seen a copperhead there myself and haven't heard about any lately. They keep things real neat around the house though and also have barn cats.

We huntin' tonight boys!!!

On top of my normal rounds with the flashlight and shovel, I sat down and made a bunch of these tape traps tonight, after seeing it on this thread. They are deployed around the house. We'll see what happens overnight.
