How long do you want to ignore this user?
Guys - I know someone here can steer me in the right direction. I am interested in ways to make repairs to my ring. Quick background - upon graduation in 75 my father, who went to tu, became a season ticket holder to A&M, was a member of 12th Man Foundation, and loved everything about the University, wanted to do something nice for me and decided I needed a diamond, in place of the shield, on my ring. I didn't love the idea primarily because I loved the look of the worn down rings of older Aggies.

I loved my dad and all he had done for me, particularly around attending A&M. I didn't have the heart (or balls) to tell him no. So I have had a diamond in my ring for almost 50 years, until last month when I noticed it had fallen out (I was hiking, so was outdoors!). Now I just have a hole where the diamond was and want to have the shield restored. I understand that Balfour may be my only option but am wondering if this is something a skilled jeweler could handle.

Any thoughts?

I would think Chuck at Fifth C in Bryan could easily repair that. Not sure I've seen him post much recently, but he used to be a regular

Talk to Chuck. He will be able to fix you up. The same thing happened to me. Mine looks better than original now and I have had zero issues.

Thanks guys! And thanks for including his website. I've already reached out to Chuck.

Appreciate it!

The association/Balfour should recast it for you for a nominal fee. If you choose to go that route

The association will pay for half of the cost, so I hear.

If you go to Balfour, the first thing to need to do is ask for someone on the A&M account. I called a few years ago to send mine in for resizing and went through three people before I got to someone who could handle an A&M ring.

Pretty sure only a recast will look correct in this instance. Since Balfour has the molds, they would be my first call.

My fish stole my ring and returned it after a long hard week with an diamond in it. 3 years ago the diamond fell out. Sent it back to the ring office and paid a fair price and they sent it back with a new diamond and fresh antique. 3 weeks or less. Easy.

Nothing wrong with a diamond in an Aggie ring. I don't have one but I think it's kind of cool when I see one. One of my roommates had one in his that had been his dad's and his grandfather's before that.

If you take it by the former student center on main campus, they will get it taken care of. They ship it to Balfour for you, and then you can pick it up back on campus or they can ship it to your house when done. I had mine resized a few years ago and it was painless dealing with the association folks.

Spoke to them yesterday. They suggested bringing the ring by for them to send to Balfour who will then let me know what they can do and the cost. Also exchanged emails with Chuck, the jeweler in College Station, and am waiting to see what he can do.

Thanks for all the replies!

Just know that Balfour will completely recast the ring.

It will be melted down and then reformed and shaped. Any aging, scars, worn down areas will be "good as new".

I wonder if the ring you get back is even the the gold from your ring. I assume they just throw a bunch in the thing and melt them all down at once, but I honestly have no idea how it works.

I think it's just random.
