The two clips are from the same night. We have a pond but have never seen a nutria but I think that's what it is. It just doesn't look like an armadillo or possum to me.

What say you OB?

Behavior of going into bushes and erratic movement seems to indicate armadillo to me.

Additionally, the ears and head shape briefly seen in video two also seem to indicate armadillo.

I will say that looks like a pretty big body and long tail for an armadillo. Tail looks to be articulated(10-11 seconds in second video) like an armadillo. I will say definitely armadillo (edit)

No way in hell that's an armadillo. Nor is it a opossum. Nutria is a solid bet.

Nutria in #1 for me, second is a bit harder, but that sure is a long tail for a dillo.

Nutria. Not a armadillo or Opossum for sure.
Maybe a bonafide California Demorat.

The tail is the key here. Dillos don't have a tail like that, neither do possums. It is not long enough to be a nutria rat. Therefore, it is a dikfer. Problem solved.

Is the OP gonna trap it or just leave us all in suspense?

I am going for just a big old rat. It's pretty amazing how large those things can get.

Video 2 you can see stripes on its tail. Looks like an armadillo to me.

I have to agree, in the second video it definitely looks like an armadillo tail. Also, the length of the tail in relationship to the body indicates armadillo to me. Nutria tails are shorter in relation to body length, at least in adults.

That is so NOT an armadillo or possum.

That is a nutria or a chewpacabra.

If it's an armadillo, you will see rooting evidence.

I suppose it could be 2 different animals on the 2 videos. The camera didn't pick anything else up that night and hasn't since then. I don't intend to try to trap it. One time I accidentally caught a skunk and that was a BAD DAY.

I'll look for signs of rooting.
