Mallards on the Snake River this morning. -3 again this morning so we hit up the hippy hot springs for a jump shoot. No hippies but lots of Mallards.

I stopped in Blackfoot Idaho yesterday and crushed honkers. There are thousands of Geese bedding down in the snake River between there and Twin Falls

We doubled our annual total in today's hunt Alone.

Crap service still here hunting tomorrow morning leaving after that. Will have loads of pics when I get back to civilization. Ha! Trip of lifetime.

Slow day today on public, but I was pretty damn excited about the two birds I did get. Got my first drake spoonbill and first mottled duck. The mottled was wearing a piece of jewelry! First banded bird for me!

Finally something to contribute to this thread

Was able to get a limit of woodies yesterday morning, north of Longview.

Used the meateater cookbook for a whole duck recipe and went with soy sauce duck. It calls for one bird but I had 2 and there was plenty of liquid. I followed the directions to a T. After the 1 hour steep the bird was 142F. I'd give it a 6 out of 10 on flavor. 4 out of 10 for effort involved for what it retuned. I've decided I'm not wasting a lot of bird when I breast them out. I've smoked em roasted em and now poached em and it just doesn't render enough extra meat for the extreme amount of time invested in a whole bird. Now. Yellow fat mallards I'll still pluck and breast to get the skin anything more is a waste.

It had much more of a mulled spice taste than I was expecting, would make a great Christmas duck recipe.

Is that star anise in there? That stuff is POTENT

Not sure how I missed that but it looks like a fantastic trip.

Got to get out and do a fun hunt today. Rain made for some great decoying birds.

4 guys, 15 birds on public Tuesday. Including a really nice mallard drake, quite rare down on the coast.

Went out with 3 other guys to a new walk in spot this morning. There was pretty much no cover so we tried laying down in the salt grass, but it didn't seem to matter. Saw hundreds of birds. Several dozen came into check out our decoys but they kept flaring. Only came home with 1 bird.

I stepped ON a rattlesnake on the walk in. No idea how I didn't get bit, so even the we kinda sucked it up hunting I was just happy to not be in the hospital. Be careful out there, more careful than me.

Cold front brought in some new birds. Had some great shoots last couple of days. Hope everyone has a great Christmas and is able to get out and enjoy the outdoors! Can't believe there is just one month left in season.
