Purina pro plan sport.
Why feed anything but the best?

I feed my dog this. She's no show or trials dog - just a mixed breed (lacy, lab, catahoula) that was free.

I feed my dogs this because I can find it in every store that sells dog food and it has a picture of a deer and turkey on it. My oldest labrador turns 13 next month. He'll still run long distance with me if the weather suits him. He'll still hunt when I let him. He mainly just sleeps and gets pet by my kids.

ETA: Weird, I always saw that deer as a whitetail. Looks like a red.

1st ingredient
Ol Roy: ground corn
Purina: whole grain corn
Wellness: deboned chicken
Royal Canin: Brewers rice
Merrick: deboned chicken
Kibbles n Bits: Corn

So you say stay away from dog food with corn in the first 3 ingredients. Then you post the above list with purina having corn in the first ingredient(which they sell about 50 different types of food, so it's hard to believe corn is number 1 in all). Then you tell us you feed your dog purina.

I hate to say anyone is trolling the board because it's so hard to know what someone's intent is, but it's hard to argue against you trolling.

I don't think he's a troll(well maybe on this thread, hard to say). I believe he read a bunch of stuff online and made some decisions for his own dog. Now he's relaying what he believes based on his research. I would agree that logically you would think that if an ingredient is higher on the label it would have more of it in the dog food than the stuff listed below. However we have had vets come on these threads over and over and say the dog food manufacturers manipulate the ingredients to make certain ingredients higher on the list than they actually are. The same vets have talked about animals they have seen that had problems with certain brands that some would say are higher end. I think one of the vets put it best earlier when they said there is no one food that is best for every dog.
Care to reevaluate your comments to me when I called him a troll? Either way, he's an *******.

I did lots of research on dog food years ago. The answer is whatever your dog likes that isn't filled with corn and other fillers.

Look at the first 5 ingredients, that's what makes the bulk of the dog food. You want things like chicken, peas, carrots, beef, turkey, fish etc. If the word corn in any fashion pops up in the first 3 ingredients, stay away from it.

There are tons of great brands but they can be pretty pricey. Taste of the Wild, is really good. That's just one of many,

Diamond Naturals/Diamond (Tractor Supply)

You call me a troll but you make assumptions about what I'm saying., that's trolling so..... STFU and GTFO here with that mess. It's already been stated (I believe by me) that every brand has several types of dog foods. I've already stated that CHEAP dog foods are loaded with corn and have corn listed #1. It's in the very list you keep quoting/trolling

Someone here that's in the industry already backed up what I said and the almighty Veterinarian was WRONG. What's on the ingredients label IS CORRECT!!!

There is a reason CHEAP/unhealthy dog foods have corn listed #1 and throughout their ingredients label. And theres a reason high end dog foods that are considered healthy dogs foods DONT. If you dont understand the concept I'm sorry. Feel free to believe its ONLY because it's the biggest crop made in the USA all you want. But if corn was so wonderful, Merrick would be making even more money per/lb of dog food by stuffing their product with it.... they DONT

That's my advice. My advice is also to pick something the dog likes. I can spend $50 on a 25lb bag and have my dog barf it up. The OP never said what their budget is. Do you live exactly by every piece of advice you give?

I guess if anything I made an assumption that when you recommended doing something it's because that's what you are doing. If that's trolling then I'm a troll(besides mcdadetxaggie I don't think anyone has ever accused me of trolling). I was genuinely trying to understand why someone would give advice that they weren't following.

I completely understand not paying $75 or more for a bag of dog food. If what you are doing works for your dog that's all that really matters.

I completely understand not paying $35 for a bag of dog food. These critters were domesticated by eating true table scraps, spending more than $35/bag for the big bag is foolish.
