I am in the market for a used F250. I'd prefer short wheel base but just curious...if I ran across a perfect deal on a long wheel base I would be interested.

Can you give me the pros and cons of it?

Always long bed. You'll never regret too much bed space

I'd say it depends on your usage. If you're in a rural area and are going to be hauling/towing regularly, the long bed will be great for the extra space. If this is a DD in an urban area, the long bed is going to be a PITA to park/navigate most places.

Parking can be a pain with a long bed...

to me it comes down to city driving vs. hauling more stuff. A short bed is easier to park in the city and parking garages. If you want a toolbox, I would go with a long bed

yeah this is my problem. I live in a city. I hunt a lot but 99% of the driving would be in the city.

I have a 350 long bed and love it. You get used to parking it. That said I live in a small town and it's not my daily driver. If I lived in the city and it was my daily driver I'd get the short bed.

No question. Short bed.

Get a bed cover (bak-flip, etc) if you want be able to store items in the bed and not loose space to a truck-box. You can also get a bed extender to help corral longer items.

Yea, I would go with short. I have a 250 with a short bed and my truck sticks waaaay out in most parking garages

1 ton long bed Ford here, I stick in to the parking space in front of me and still stick out in to the road/ driving lane in the back end. Still wouldn't even think about getting a short bed. I have too much **** in the bed of my pickup, tool box, air compressor, dog box. I'd fill my bed up if I had a short bed.

No, that is a crew cab short bed truck aka CCSB. This is the most common setup seen on later model F250 trucks The bed is 6' 9" long.

Longbed trucks are 8' long.

Referring to wheel base instead of bed length is a little confusing.

There are extended cab trucks also. They can also have either bed length.

Regular cab Super Dutys are all going to have 8' beds.

I have a F250 with the long bed. I think the wheel base is 4" longer and it all showed up in the back seat area.....big difference if you have grown people in the back.......or so they say..

You get use to grabbing the first back to back space and taking a chunk of both.

Another plus is you don't get door dings.

CCLB F250s and CCSB F350s are pretty rare these days

thank you! so that particular truck is as short of a crew cab F250 as they make?

The crew cab size is the same for either the short or long bed.

This is my crew cab long bed 350 The longer area between the cab and the rear tires is where you look. In person, its always obvious, but I've seen pics online where it is sometimes not as clear.

Mine is a 2017. I believe that is the year they increased the wheel base by 4" and that difference showed up in the rear seat area. That was all I was saying. The space in the rear seat is different....doesn't have anything to do with short or long bed.

Sheesh, I usually run out of room for stuff in our long bed F-250 when we haul the travel trailer somewhere. I'd be up the creek with a short bed. Parking can be an issue but we can usually make it work. Sucker barely fits in the garage, with about 6" clearance from the wall in front and about the same to garage door in the rear.

Ride quality will be better in the long bed.

Got it., The 17+ trucks got the bigger crew cab. It is now the same cab as the F-150s. I DID NOT know that the whole wheelbase got longer though. Looks like the CCSB went from 156 to 160.

Here's an image showing the difference in the 2.

There is a visual difference.

I had a 2008 before this one and as I understand they stole some space in the rear seat area at some point and got a lot of complaints.....and gave it back in 2017

It was always tight to get an ATV trailer backed into the garage with my 2008. With the longer wheelbase it's easier to just drop it and go across the street and borrow my neighbors power dolly. My big boat became such a pain that I bought one for Port Aransas. I need the space centerpole has to back up.

Gigem. I have owned both----a Short Bed F250 and a long bed F350 crew cabs both. Here is my three cents:

If you pull a trailer - Long bed much safer
If you haul just about any lumber or anything of substance - Long bed ....8ft sheet of plywood fits in it.
Rough terrain or rough roads - Long bed much smoother as longer wheel base
If you use it like a car - short bed due to parking space.
If you know how to drive a truck.....parking it is usually not an issue. You learn how.

I bought a long bed 4 door f350 almost a year ago to work out of at the farm. I LOVE it. I can get full sheets of plywood in the back, I can fit 2 pallets with the B&W ball removed.

My company pickup is a 1/2 ton short bed pickup and cannot seem to have enough space in the bed because there is a bed cover on it so I have to carry some hardware/tools in the back seat.

Wow man! That is what I call a "successful" hunt!!!! Good going for sure. I am glad you had your long bed lest you carry that all out on your shoulders!! You damn sure did good.

I have a 2016 F250 short bed I use as a DD. I regularly pull trailers with several tons of feed, heavy deer blinds or smaller equipment with bumper pulls and I've never had any issues. A full sheet of plywood fits in the bed easily with the tailgate dropped. Unless you plan to use your long bed as a work truck constantly I'd go with a short bed for the somewhat better convenience of parking and driving in and around the city.

I have a f150 and a f250. I'm firmly in the camp that believes if you are going to decide you need or can use a super duty, then it's kind of stupid to put a short bed on it. If you are going to do that, might as well get a half ton and enjoy the benefits of a full short bed and the drivability of that truck.
