Looking at coating the garage floor. For those of y'all that have done the epoxy, how did it go? Would you change to something else? What brand did you use?

Anyone use rubber/plastic tiles in their garage instead of epoxy?

Just closed on a new house and want to take advantage of the empty garage before we move our junk in.

Thanks!

I used epoxy. Not a bad process but mine did take some work to get clean because the house was 20+ years old when I did it so there were various chemical stains.

I used the Valspar kits from Lowes, or Home Depot (I forget which). It has held up well. I didnt put flake in it because I don't like that look. Sometimes I wish I had because cutting fluid from my lather or mill on the epoxy is crazy slippery! It's been down about 6 years and only damage so far is from a battery that leaked acid on the floor. It didn't eat all the way through but did turn it chalky in that spot.

We used Stampede Coatings and did their Polyurethane coating on our new build.

Supposedly it is more durable than epoxy, and doesn't get brittle over the years. Wasn't super cheap, but I'm happy with the results so far. Now I just gotta finish unpacking so I can actually use the garage.

Look up Infinite Concrete Designs if nearby SA.

He is an Ag and former Football player.

Does some outstanding work and has awesome designs.

If hiring this out make sure they take moisture reading on the slab. if they pressure wash the floor make them wait 72 hours and take another moisture reading before they paint.

And ucoatit

These are the two I've seen at race garages.

How flexible are any of those?

How would them move on a 50y/o floor that has various cracks already?

If you are in DFW I can recommend Diamond Cut Garage Floors. They have done my last two houses. Install takes a day and you can walk on it in 6 hours and move your stiff back in in 24 hours. It is non skid so it doesn't get slippery when wet like most garage floor coatings.

Epoxy worked well for me. We moved in 22 years ago, had a guy do it while the house was vacant like you, and it is still going strong. Only stain is from the 56 Merc, when the gas tank decided to leak--that was a mess. I figure when I get the garage cleaned out some day, will do the epoxy or whatever the latest best thing is again.
