Finally found a show my 4 year old will sit and watch with me that isn't cartoons. Kid loves watching the thrill of the hunt and re-enacting it. Great show. Really enjoyed the episode on South America where they made the arrows and hand made fishing tools . Fascinating the difference in culture and how they caught more pirhana with basic equipment and he was striking out with all the gear.

Cooking javelina in a hole in its own stomach with hot rocks was awesome. He was honest about the taste as well. That made me a fan of the show.

Trying not to burn through this season too fast. I binged watched a few the other night but need to slow it down.

Out of all the things he has done/eaten on the show, there's only 1 thing that I would have to pass on. And that be using the animal's bile as a dipping sauce, which he did on a buffalo episode. Pretty sure even he was pretty disgusted with that one, but he only did it because he read about it being done in the past.

I want to try the muscles behind the eyes the next time I have a chance.

Would you eat a Monkey? That has to be one of the best/funniest episodes. Basically went on and on about how he couldn't eat a monkey. Prepared himself to kill it and not eat it. Then once the thing was dead, he looks directly into the camera and says "I'm gonna eat that monkey". Laughed so hard. But no way could I eat monkey.

Episode 2&3 is a cool one because of the father/son dynamic of the guests. This is one of my favorite shows on Netflix and there's a ton of cool shows on there.

I couldn't eat a bear that gave me f'ing worms.

Did anyone watch the web series where he and like 3 other guys and the crew got trichinosis because they ate undercooked bear meat?

You can watch it here...

I like the show and this guy seems to have a good attitude but there's no shortage of dumbassery which for me adds to the appeal of the show. I'm excited about watching this season.

This show is so awesome. I wish all of the seasons were on Netflix.

Disappointed he didn't talk about the bear attack on the afognak episode with Remi Warren. Guess I'll have to re listen to the podcast

After watching his shows I ate the tongue and heart on the deer I just killed. Both were great. Haven't had the guts (hah get it?) to try liver or kidney

Example please.
The shows, podcast, and books have completely renewed my interest in hunting and conservation.

Sat through most of the non-South America episodes with Jr., and he loves it. Now he wants to try making the turkey.......uhh bacon sausage. He wants to watch the SA fishing stuff, so we will eventually. Great show.

Did you miss the episode where he went turkey hunting with Joe Rogan?

Don't get me wrong, I love the show. But there is some silly **** going on.

That's funny I skipped those too...

Theyre great. About a year ago I listed to the podcast they put out about that trip, so it was really cool to see everything they were talking about

He took two professional comedians on a turkey hunt for the first time. They cracked lots of jokes and decided that they didn't like turkey hunting so Rinella went on his own and killed a turkey after they left.
I don't know that I'd call that "dumbassery".

You should keep watching and give the show another chance

Think y'all are taking the dumbassery comment too seriously. I took it as it's very much like when I'm sharing a hunting camp with my childhood friends. Goofy **** happens. One of my favorite things about the Steve is he doesn't take himself too seriously or try to impress you with how badass a hunter he is. He's got no problem telling you about the stupid **** he's done.

He even calls himself a dumbass on the new episode where him and Remi Warren are chasing after elk due to how he decides to post up and take a shot.

As far as eating the monkey, I think that would have to be a game time decision. Not sure if I would be able to or not.

Can't deny the monkey idea fasinates me. No issue at all.

He for sure has made mistakes. I appreciate that he has the balls to talk about it. Minus the bear incident. I give him a pass on that one for the show though because he said in the podcast everyone was on break when it occurred. For a tv show you really need to be able to show what happened not just talk about it, so since there wasn't footage of the attack I understand why they didn't cover it on the show.

At first I was too. But after thinking about it, I realized that the cameras were not rolling during that encounter, so it would be tough to provide context for the viewer who does not listen to the podcast. Or they cut that part out of the episode to keep it in the 22 minute TV format.

**EDIT**
I guess I should have read all the replies before posting this. I didn't see RCR06's comments until I posted.

Yeah makes sense... but the whole episode I was like.... the bears A Comin' ! And it never did. That being said, I'm relistening to the podcast and hearing about the terrain etc. I will prob watch that episode again too.

I watch the show. I like the show.

Perfect example: last night I watched episode 2 from current season. One guy is taking his dad Alaska moose hunting and Steve is explaining 12 o'clock position and the guy's dad is coming up with all kinds of B.S. about crosshairs (? haha) and how Steve's generation uses digital clocks.

I've been limiting myself to one episode a night for the new season. I had planned a trip with some colleagues to go blacktail and bear hunting fall, but I have a 7 month old at home instead. She's teething and they're going hunting in two weeks. While I wouldn't trade her for the world, I informed the wife that after seeing those episodes that the trip is back on in 2020.

And who's not surprised that ursus would eat a monkey? Isn't that how we got AIDS?
ursusguy

Not from South America.

Keep in mind, make the debate about zoonotic diseases with dang near any critter we eat. :-)

I think sometimes they add this stuff to either fill time or just do something different. One thing that sometimes is cooo but sometimes drives me crazy about his podcast is that he goes on all these wild tangents or argue semantics for "clarification" purposes and kills 20minutes before finishing the story he started.

If you enjoy the shows you will really enjoy his book, "Meateater". I know he has others, but that is the only one I've read. I wish all people who dislike hunting or think it's wrong would read it.
