Reviews are pretty consistent that the audio sucks. Almost every episode I can hear the show fine, but as soon as commercials hit I feel like my ear drums are about to explode so there's a pretty significant volume difference in this show.

F subtitles. Boob and butt aren't the same without words, and we got introduced to the latter and it did not disappoint.

We gonna see those two go at it?

The audio sucks. Very difficult to understand parts of the dialogue.

If there is a setting that fixes it, I'd love to know.

Agree that the story is entertaining, especially if one likes dark and gritty. I do wish they showed more elk, deer, wolves and bear.
Don't care about the elk, deer, wolves and bear.....I'm just holding out for beaver.

I bought a blue toof transmitter for the tv to go with headphones and it is awesome! It gets power from the tv usb and takes either a digital audio or the standard red/white rca jack connections. Got it on amazon for about $60.

Freaking good show tonight. Lawyer son needs another bruise on his face. Typical, spineless lawyers. Very realistic.

I dumped my surround sound from my Apple TV and watched the show with my AirPods. Holy crap, I'll never watch it any other way. I've missed so much of the subtle audio, from the music to the animals.

This show is this summers cable hit. It has as many viewers as the walking dead. I'm going to Utah and Montana and act all Japanese next summer. Except I won't trespass. I'll just take pics.

Love these characters. The ending of the episode had me teary eyed for some reason.

And eff Jamie

Careful around the cliffs. Good for you for not trespassing, this is America, we don't share land.

I haven't watched the final, so thanks for no spoilers on this thread. I am prepared to hate Jamie though.

#1 Jamie is easy to hate.
#2 I'm pretty sure my wife would drop me in a minute for Kaycie or Rip.

Aw snap - good episode.

Without spoiling - my takeaway is that after a bunch of getting to know ya stuff, all the main characters now have now figured out & embraced their roles in the family. Season 2 will get very interesting, very quickly.

SPOILERS***********************************+++++***********++*++

DO NOT LOOK BELOW IF YOU HAVENT WATCHED THE LAST EPISODE*********************************************************

Ok now let's address a couple of things.

First off, I don't think the guy Casey hung dies. I think season two starts with him getting cut loose to continue to be a primary protagonist.

I'm on the fence with Jamey. His interview goes one of two ways:

He buries his whole family and his dad, Casey and Rip spend the rest of their lives in prison or he uses his interview to bolster his family's stance........I suppose he could split the difference and simply paint his dad in a negative light while holding back on damning evidence.

I think back to what he said about running for office in order to get more power - it was so he could protect what his family had built and fight against outsiders.

Beth: Wildcard that hates the ranch and most of her family but would literally do anything for dad.

Casey: hates dad, but is still perfectly willing to kill for him and his greater family

Until he shows otherwise I don't know that Jamey is any different.

Kayce doesn't hate his dad, he's just too much like him to live under the same roof for long, IMHO.

Awesome show.

HSO: John Dutton is dead in season 2.

ETA: if you didn't like this episode, you missed some trademark Sheridan symbolism.

Personally I think that Rip is the best potential caretaker of the ranch long term. Would be interesting to see if that plot twist going forward.

Also, the behind the scene footage of season 2 clearly has Costner in it. For how much we don't know.

They'd be idiots if they took kostner out of the show in season 2.

Or is it even that much of a plot twist. When John was talking to him about "none of them are ready to run it", they left the camera on Rip a few seconds too long to be normal. I think they're trying to paint that picture. Rip and Beth ending up with the ranch. Boom.

Agreed, no way John dies anytime soon. Just like SOA, which this show is definitely similar to, John will die in the last or one of the last few episodes I'd bet.

SPOILER ALERT:

Personally, I think this Ranch ends up with Rip or Kayce in the end. Kayce has nothing to lose and everything to gain for his son, Rip is also an excellent choice in that he came from nothing and is loyal as all hell.

Both characters are 'do what it takes' types and I LOOOVVVVEEEE that about both of them.

John Dutton is going to have to make the decision, and while he is a huge **** face, he is also pretty serious about family. But he also is pretty serious about loyalty.

I love Beth. She's the best. She will cut someone's throat.

I"m not a Costner fanboy, but I will admit that this is less of a show without him - there would need to be some real ramping up on some other characters if he died in the short term.

A second thought on that is - Rip's 'authority' or horsepower comes from John. Without John there, or some real clever backstory/fill in, I don't know that Rip is going to bore with a big auger like he is now. I think Rip's character needs John there longer to fully develop.

Taylor Sheridan is the writer, exec producer and director of some episodes. Nominated for Academy Award for screenwriting for Hell or High Water. Good enough that fair number of actors want to be associated in one of his projects just because of him. I watched Wind River because of his writing in Hell or HIgh Water and watched Yellowstone because of his writing in Wind River. He writes with a sort of Elmore Leonard-ish turn of a phrase.

Also did both Sicarios. Played the horse salesman in Yellowstone.

Listen to the song playing as Dutton walks into the field at the end.

Just my opinion.

Love his work. The edge to his work is fantastic and there aren't story book happy endings (yea I know that has another meaning). He was also the cowboy driving his herd from the grass fire in Hell or High Water.

Where the show goes? I think given the characters and how I'd see it play out is Kayce comes back into the daily business with Rip as his right hand man. As FisherCo said above, Kayce and his dad are cut from the same mold. The girl is a great antagonizer but isn't developed enough to be the new it person for running the family. There's a reason Kayce has an estranged relationship and that's because he's the next generation leader and in strong families that person has a hard time being the no. 2 and waiting patiently.

She looks pretty developed, to me.
