I don't know the exact cost. I do know the cost to produce versus the price they charge is not as outrageous as many think(not just on here, it's a common comment you hear from a lot of folks), and nowhere near the 82% in your example.

Point being, the design and construction of these coolers isn't rocket science. There's only so much you can do with a cooler and much of that is predicated on weight and the quality of materials/manufacturing.

I've got to think the folks at Igloo and Coleman are kicking themselves for not recognizing the market opportunity that Yeti capitalized on.

You are correct. Engel was the first to make the coolers, Yeti copied them, tweaked the design, and spent a **** ton on marketing. I think the cooler company is it's own company based in Florida now, but it was once part of Engel Corp out of Austria, which is a huge plastics company. They didn't invent roto-molding, but they have invented most of the machines that roto-molders use to create products. I'd be willing to bet that Yeti, Brute, Rtic, etc are all made on Engel machines or machines that use their design.

I'm pretty sure I read on here someone said that you could get the 65qts (RTIC charges $200, yeti $400) for like $100 to $125 if you bought them in bulk amounts of over 2000 or so from overseas.

I know marketing and paying employees aren't cheap but $300 a cooler is a pretty damn big margin. Agree with whoever said that plastic, foam, and a little bit of rubber ain't that damn expensive. Not that I'm saying I'm against yeti, owners had a great idea and are raking in the cash from it. If people will pay the money for it, why not?

Haven't tested it and I don't have a yeti for comparison, but on first look this is a very solid cooler.

Engel makes some nifty coolers. There are other commercial cooler makers as well - Polar King, etc.

I don't think there are many small commercial coolers. There could be. The Engels we have at that size are freezers/temperature controlled boxes

I ordered a maroon 45 a couple months back. As of yesterday they hadn't received the shipment. They are still saying that they will ship some time in February.

I'll update if/when it arrives...

So far so good but no real challenges thrown at it yet. Just some beer drinking weekends where it performs fine.

I've got a trip planned in mid-March that should be a good test.

I wonder if its owned by an Aggie? They have an A&M sticker for sale and the cups are called corpcups.

Nothing yet... Website is saying an April ship date. That better be for new orders...

Emailed them this morning on my Maroon 45 and this is their response :

Our shipment arrived today and we are starting to ship orders out.

I ordered at the end of December when the website was still saying February delivery.

I got a similar response when I asked a question about my order.

Another note....I asked and they are not currently offering pickups from their Spring facility.

I emailed this morning for a status update and received a shipment confirmation 5 minutes after. It could be a coincidence or just the right amount of prodding. Either way my maroon 75 is on the way.
