We didn't go far but the boat got to run a couple hundred yards and we even tied up and drank a beer. Tons of giant gar rolling.

Nueces near Tilden should see a jump in flow today. Nueces near Three Rivers had a rise overnight. The river between these two gauges had flows back in May and hopefully we see a lot of the Nueces River flows make it to Lake Corpus Christi.

I think the order is correct. That boat ramp is on the river just above where the main part of the lake starts, so what he is showing is that the river went back down between Friday and Sunday. Unless I am mistaken, in the Sunday photo, you can see the dark area on the trees across the channel showing the waterline of how high the river was previously.

you are correct.....the flow had slowed a lot by sun AM and was not pushing as much water up towards the ramp.

thanks - I didn't know where this ramp was. I thought it was further down the lake and thus was confused why it would be lower.

Lost in all the good news about the lakes filling up is that the Edwards Aquifer J-17 well in San Antonio is up 24 feet from 6 months ago and the Uvalde well is up 10 feet from 6 months ago. The Comal and San Marcos Spring flows are up too. All still below historical averages, but much closer to normal than they have been in years.

Looks like Choke Canyon will likely top out at around or slightly above 25% in the coming days. Hopefully more rain to come in coming weeks and / or months.

Looks like Lake Mathis is starting to catch water!

Going to be interesting to see how full Mathis gets. Based on the flows at Cotulla and Tilden, it looks like the peak flows have lasted about 4-5 days with a slow taper off after that. Five days at 15,000 CFS works out to about 149,000 acre-ft and Mathis is about 173,000 acre-ft from full. How long that tail on the back end of the flow peak is and how high the peak flow gets above 15,000 CFS will determine if it fills completely or stops somewhere short of full.

Choke is looking like it will stop right around 25% +/- about 0.5%

What is truly crazy is that the Nueces River gage just south of 90 near Uvalde had over 500,000 acft pass by, and now we're wondering if the river will flow the 171,000 acft needed to fill the lake!

That was some very thirsty brush country that has soaked under water for the past 2 weeks.

It would be a good time for a depression to come and drop some substantial rain over the Frio again to fill up Choke Canyon. With the amount of water absorbed you would have to think more would make it to the lake.

Tropical outlook is probably grim being such a strong El Nino, but that may not rule out "home grown" GOA storms. I think we can also expect a wetter fall and winter which could be beneficial to the watershed.

Unrelated to the Hill Country and S. Texas brush country, I'd like to see good water flow into the upper Colorado as well. Fill up teh San Angelo lakes and OH Ivey.

100% correct! Those warm waters of the Pacific are breeding ground for tropical development and storms do come up through New Mexico and hangs a right onto Texas

The gage just below the Choke canyon dam is showing over 1000 cfs... that's tail water backing up from Three Rivers, yes?

If they are releasing 1120 cfs from Choke Canyon as it shows on Water Data, then somebody needs to be strung up on the hanging tree in Oakville.

Yes, I did see a post on FB group that monitors Nueces River Watershed that mentioned it was flowing backwards towards Choke Canyon.

An update on this flood vs 2013 (the last flood to fill Mathis quickly). I still think the lake gets very full from this.

2013
Uvalde Gauge...0 CFS
Asherton...15,600
Cotulla...17,000
Tilden...28,300
Three Rivers...16,900
Result: Lake rise from ~33% to 100%

2026
Uvalde Gauge...201,000 CFS!!!
Asherton...200,000 CFS (higher than 2013)
Cotulla...56,700 CFS (higher than 2013)
Tilden...23700 (slightly lower than 2013)
Three Rivers...16800 cfs

I guess the big difference is that 2013 drenched the brush country whereas this storm system pummeled the hill country. The brush country channel wasn't poised to drink what it did this time around.

Flows are nice and high at Three Rivers...I'm seeing predictions that the lake for sure gets above 90% and 100% is a good possibility.

It's such a shame that they didn't build choke a little further east, and catch the nueces. Mathis is going to fill and I have a feeling they'll have to release at least a significant amount of water.

I saw one projection this morning that Mathis is only expected to get to about 85% full come Friday. I have no idea if there is additional flow beyond that that will continue to fill the lake but perhaps someone here knows better than I do.

Given the current pace of 1.4' per day, it should fill in about 5 days, assuming the pace slows as the lake gets bigger. I'd bet it's full in a week. The Nueces peaked in Three Rivers on the 1st at 12,000 CFS, but is still at 9,880.
