Thanks for thinking of me, ive been nusy but thinking of you guys too

Right now we've had about 8" of rain, but basically all from here south. Thank the lord for us, but bad for those south. We will be at extreme risk for the rest of the week

We did get the cows out, may have to move them again though. Horses go tomorrow. Nws gauges are useless as 10" fom i-10 south wont show until richmond gauge.

So far we still have some pasture above water so right now we havent hit january 19 levels yet. Hope and pray

Checked the rain gauge one last time before bed. Just over 6" here in Pearland. Still raining.

Lots of good people have had lots of bad luck with the weather in the last few years. Praying for relief.

First big wave in Round Rock but nothing compared to you guys. Gonna be a long week for all. My yard puddled in 15 minutes of the first burst. We are saturated even up here. Hill Country is a dangerous place right now.

And what will piss me off is when we get through this it's summer heat and humidity. You watch. Spring will be over.

Concrete causes faster runoff. No saturation. Water going the faster route to a drain or creek. Our neighborhood in Kyle has never flooded. Development, more drainage to the Lake. Flooded houses for the first time. Fema changed the maps and says they may do it again as more runoff increases with development.

I suspect the Brazos is going to be very bad over the next few days

Had and isolated storm in NE Brazos county dump 4" in one hour yesterday evening. Anything more today and I rerouted home once again unless they are all flooded once this from the west dumps on us. Brazos is full, Navasota is full and tributaries feeding it here were full this morning and overflowing still from over a week ago. I noticed lake Somerville this weekend rose 4ft in 24hours. They were just back at a decent level for a holiday weekend. Keeps this up folks in the bottom are going to be moving livestock as well. Poor farmers could barely get into work ground to plant. Then even if they were able to they now have not been able to finish planting.

Turd floater headed into Dripping again. Wouldn't be surprised if RR12 and 290 floods.

Looks like dusk in Austin. Rumors of baseball sizes hail headed this way.

BCS just got a lot of rain so the rivers will be sending some water south. Sorry for that guys.

They said a tornado was spotted near the airport--I live in midtown east of there and we had very little wind so it must have skirted Wellborn Rd as it went southeast toward Millican or it went back in the clouds.

Yes, thank you. My subtle point was that it is not possible to go from never flooding to a fairly routine rainfall causing a "wall of water" because of a development ( that probably makes up a small portion of the watershed) that added 50 percent impervious cover on type D soils.

I'm not saying that development doesn't increase the volume of surface runoff, and if not designed correctly, the peak runoff rate, but the increase can't be on the level of what you are describing. Never flooding to a wall with a 4" event...unless an entire watershed was rerouted which seems unlikely.

I missed the original point but bottom line development down river by allowing private levees to dam off neighborhoods has radically worsened flooding upriver.

Yep. Last I checked it was 50.6 at the Rosharon bridge last night, but with the upriver additional rain, it's either going to stay high for a long time or possibly even get higher. Anything above 50 gets my attention.

Spent yesterday at the deer lease picking things up and hoping for the best, all we can do now is wait and monitor to see what Old Man River decides to do.

Water starting to stack up.

Got those straggler cows all the way to the gate going into the trap and they turned and bolted. Hope they find their high ground and low water.

Dad swears that it's the crazy ones that you don't worry about in floods. They are crazy enough to swim/survive.

Leave 'em. My dad almost drowned, and his horse did, trying to swim out of the bottom when the water came up faster than we thought it would. It's not worth the risk.

Pushing 50.8 now at Rosharon.

Don't care what any farmer or rancher says here - I'm praying and hoping for another drought like we had from '09-'14.

As a farmer and an agronomist I'm right there with you.

In the industry we are taught, you can manage a drought, but not a flood.

We can make crop choices and agronomic decisions for dry years, you can't work yourself out of 4' of water.

I am sick of the rain and we don't need anymore for quite some time but I'll never wish for that drought ever again it was brutal

09-14 were some of the most profitable Ag years in the Gulf Coast in decades.

No. The last 4 years has cost me half a million dollars, after insurance, nearly killed me, and my business, and killed a lot of animals and lost a lot of priceless things.

Thats harsh.

**** this bull**** weather and you damned well bet i want a 10 year drought.

DGAS

4+ floods in 4 years has made me bitter towards flooding. I don't care who's delicate sensibilities that hurts or offends. Drought is easier to deal with than flooding, and we've had enough of it in my neck of the woods to last a long, long time.

I will. Why?

Because droughts don't force people to leave their homes and most of their stuff behind in the middle of the night. Droughts are recoverable, they don't destroy houses, they don't cost taxpayers nearly the cost that flooding causes. They are manageble and much more predictable than floods. Everybody here is tired of the wet and more than wet.

Local land owners don't really want it, however BRA already has ownership of the vast majority of the land required. It is just leased back to the original owners.
Yep, I know a lot about that project as it's in my line of business and I know at least one board member on BRA. I honestly don't see it happening, even if BRA wants it to happen. COH and Centerpoint aren't in a hurry for it.
Id love to talk. Ive considered ways to help simonton and the surrounding area and have been working with fbco drainage, and local mayors. the next step would be to talk with bra and coe leadership.
