Just got that rain! At least a good 3/4 inch or so in Paige. Long steady downpour, and the ground soaked it right up. The only drawback is it will be awful humid the next few days.

Got a second round another 1/4 to 1/2 inch at dusk.

BQ good for you. Round Rock, at least my house, got about half an inch night before and something today. A total of around .7-.8 inches. My guess.

Nice mostly slow rain and I had puttles in a couple of spots. Very timely.

The Concho Valley had a wicked storm blow through on Friday night about 8. My uncle had three trees ripped out of the ground, with gusts going up to 85 from what I have heard.

A family friend built a state of the art dairy Southwest of Miles a couple years ago and it was completely decimated. His sheds looked like they were chopped apart by swords from every different direction. He lost 6 100'x600' sheds and the sheet metal from the sheds sliced up 50 cows bad enough they had to be shot. It was a bad bad deal.

Looks like many of us are due a nice bit of rain in the next week. I know not everyone likes it, but I do.

Hope you're right. That last bit of heat sucked a lot of moisture out of the ground.

We can handle 1 more rain then it really needs to quit until mid September. We have some awesome crops that we are in danger of losing if it keeps up. Lots of folks hanging on by a thread and if we lose this season they will go bankrupt. If it rains keep it above I-10 please.

Put out fertilizer today on the hay patch. Either going to never rain again or flood.

Better than here, maybe 1/2 inch the past 2-3 weeks and it was dry before then. Pulled the horse off the pasture, the deer are just eating weeds around the pond. Pretty rough looking outside the irrigation zones around the house.

Another 1/2" of rain last week(?) and I turned off the sprinklers. Hoping we get a good round of rain this weekend to keep the sprinklers off

Yep, I want 2-3" between now and the end of August and then I don't care.

This year has been relatively good for the deer so far.

My livelihood doesn't depend on the rain like some of the farmers on here... I wish you get or don't get rain, for your benefit. For me, it's just a hobby.

My life doesn't depend on rain like farmers and construction folks.
But I live about 20 feet outside the city limits with a horse, ponds, wildlife.
The less hay I have to buy, and the less water I have to spray makes a meaningful difference to me though.
I cannot explain my fascination with following weather, but I've been a wx hobbiest for a couple decades.

Cv I started following weather when I first started coaching baseball in 2001. Had to know if we could play the game

Now that you say that it dawned on me that all through my youth we lived on the water.
Be it Guam, Biloxi, or Alvin (and vacation bayou houses South thereof) Dad always watched for tropical storms and usually took me to help board up when necessary.
I've lived inland for decades, but I guess it goes back to following waves and watching whether they develop.
He was an old school USAF navigator for 20+ years.
I couldn't program a GPS to save my life, but I can read charts, and watch storms.

I think we are still in the week by week phase, but we are likely in the big blue H phase of storm season.
The only time Tessus is vulnerable to storms is when the High pressure ridge weakens.
Watch storm waves, and watch pressure variants over Texas.
Then, bingo, you are an amateur meteorologist.
The best part is, you have a fairly good chance at being as accurate as paid metx folks.

Personally at this time of year I watch storms that go below Cuba. If they get inside the Gulf, and not torn up by then, they are worth watching,

Obviously any storm originating in the gulf should be monitored as well.

There appears to be a timing factor on that.
Oversimplification: June to mid/late July, generally, you worry about homebrews in the Campecheish area. timing a lull in pressure over Texas, otherwise they push East to FL or dissolve into Mexico.
Long tracks from African waves are very rare until Augustish.
Tropical moisture wad formerly known as TD 4 was an early long track that fell apart as a storm, but could still bring us rain this weekend.
We are just now getting to the time that waves off Africa stand a puncher's chance at making it to the Gulf.

It's pretty damn dry inside the aggie dome too. I've seen good rain dissolve as it got near the past 3 days. Just North of town looks like it is in decent shape. Summer rain is a fickle mofo.
