Excellent tire.

I put Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor (the ones that are kevlar reinforced) tires on my truck 7K miles ago. I've been happy with them so far. Mostly highway driving, but also some beach driving and the traction was awesome. The stock Michelins that came on it only lasted 38K miles before they were going bald and had one blow out. They weren't the LTX M/S though, my cousin will swear by those.

Good luck finding a Toyo right now. THey are moving their factory and quantities are limited. I can't find any 285 70 R17s in an E range to save my life right now.

I might have to switch to Bridgestones or Michelins.

Michelin LTX M/S

Have them on my '05 F150 and won't buy anything else.

I've had good experience with Michelin LTX A/T and, more recently, Hankook Dynapro ATm. YMMV.

Michelin is a French owned company, if that means anything to you. Their tires are quiet and give a smooth ride, but imo, they don't stand up to heavy use as well as some others.

Firestone Transforce are the best tire you can get for the $ to miles ratio. It's built like a commercial tire. There's an HT and an AT, although the AT isn't a real aggressive tread.

Transforce is what you'll find on most hot shotting dually trucks. That ought to tell you something.

Just put a set of Hankook DynaPro AT/m's on my truck last month. Seem to be pretty good so far. Smooth ride unless I am on ****y roads, but that's the road, not the tires. Got a set of 4 for $715, but I also know the manager of the local Discount Tire so I got that going for me.

im going to have to be another BFG AT fan. I had 2 sets of them (315's and 285's)on my 2002 Fx4 prior to getting "ol jebediah" and loved them. I am just waiting for Jeb's feet to go out so i can justify buying a set of 285 ATs.

In response to Donnie Brasco, my michelins have seen quite heavy use including hauling a 32' gooseneck cattle trailer, among many others.

With a 1/2 ton you are going to have to decide P vs. LT series tires. With a 3/4 ton & up that decision is made for you (load range E LT tires).

To compare a P series to an LT series is not comparing apples to oranges.

I have no idea what that even means, but I'll bite.

1) I'm glad the BFGs have worked well for you. I bought them because I thought they would be decent.

3) I don't think they guy that talked me into them was a liar, but as they say "your mileage may vary" and mine varied.

2) In my estimation of how they should perform, they have not been decent. Based on my experience with them I will not buy them again. I don't think they're crap, but they have far under-exceeded expectations.

To that end, I appreciate the advice/experience of everyone and I'll start shopping around locally and see what I can find. Thanks for the opinions!

Just meant that is what you hear a lot about them, everyone has them for some reason and I hear 10 to 1 on bad vs. good. Just saying that alot of people buy them and realize they arent all that great and never buy them again.

You might want to get your alignment or toe-in and steering linkage checked before buying a new set. That could be why your BFG ATs didn't hold up. Those are typically high mileage tires, especially for an AT.

BFG ATs are certainly popular but I'll never understand why. I had a set on a Toyota Tacoma and they wore faster that any tire I've ever had on a 1/2 ton or 3/4 ton pickup. Dad currently has them on a F150 and they'll be lucky to make it to 40,000 miles.

The set that came on my last truck were awful. Lousy tread wear, lousy in wet weather, and lousy off pavement.

I got 90K miles out of a set on a 3/4 ton, with proper maintenance, and have seen similar results from others.

Any brand of a tire can fail, especially without proper maintenance and pressure.

Bridgestone has worked hard to bring the Firestone brand back, and are a good buy for the money, especially the Transforce.

This was Firestone's fault...the tread separated. They admitted to it. Remember the problems they had a few years back? I was one of the "victims". Sorry, but any brand that unexpectedly simply falls apart and sends me hurling into a 4 ft diameter overpass support column, causing me to be life-flighted, isn't going to get my business anymore.

Wow. Fair enough.

Firestone isn't the only tire to have a record of tread separation, however, since I think that's an Explorer, I'm guessing yours were ATX's, which were total crap.

Also, Firestone agreed to take the fall in that deal for Ford, across the board. Ford was recommending an air pressure below what Firestone spec'ed for it, although that doesn't excuse tread separation by any means.

I'm sure there are others, but my experience with Firestone obviously wasn't a good one so I refuse to give them a penny. If you look at the picture, the tire you can see (left side rear) is the one that separated. The wall stayed completely in tact, the tread peeled away. Not easy to control your vehicle when you're going 70 mph down I-10.

So Sean, support your internet friend and don't buy Firestones!

Thank you kind sir. It's my personal goal to put them out of business, one person at a time. While we're at it, I'll never own a Ford Explorer ever again either.

Loved the ride on the BFG ATs, but the last set only lasted just over 25K miles and I rotated them 3 times during that span. Two of them were as bald as my head when I finally dumped them. That just isn't going to cut it for me.

I went with the Yokohama Geolander this time and I don't think the ride is as good, but they do come with a 60K warranty.

Hey Sean, turns out my buddy will make the pheasant hunt this year. If you recall, there's nothing he loves more than tires and dirty leg at the local VFW. You probably can't hold out that long, but he'll sure offer up his opinion on what you bought when he sees 'em.

I'm on set #2 of the Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor on my 3/4 F250 diesel. Got 2 years (aboutu 60k to 65k) out of the first set, and have over 30k and 1 year on this set with about half tread still to go.

Never had an issue - ride down the road as good as any other tire on a heavy truck, don't make a lot of noise on the highway, decent off road traction and tough enough to get me through the AZ desert on more than one occasion without getting punctured by a rock or cactii.

Well, I went with the Hankook DynaPro AT/m's in 265/70R17. I did not get as good a deal as wadd96, but at least they're not Firestone.

I think you made a good choice. Of course, if they turn out to be total crap, I will only feel personally responsible for a second before reminding you that wadd96 recommended them also.

Now then, let's go get 'em muddy in western Kansas!
