I posted this on the OB because I hope to continue to drive my truck outside, mostly to/from hunting trips.

It's tire time. I have BF Goodrich on right now and have been less than pleased/impressed with them from the git go. Despite normal rotating they have not held up to what I consider relatively benign conditions. I'd been trying to milk them along until the beginning of pheasant season but it ain't gonna happen.

2005 Ford F-150, 4WD. 80% of my driving on paved roads, 15% on gravel, 5% on some pretty sloppy ones as the 2009 Pheasant Hunters can attest. Fair amount of snow/rain to deal with.

What say 'ye OB? Good experiences? Bad?

People don't see them too much, but I put some Hankook Dynapro ATm's on my truck a while back, and they're working out nicely. I'm 90% highway, but venture onto the beach and out onto some east Texas sand and gumbo now and then, and they're doing well in all areas so far. They do surprisingly well on sand.

Michelin LTX A/T (or M/S if highway ride is more important). The A/T's will shed enough mud to clean out eventually, but are pretty nice on the road.

Michelin has exceptional durability. Their heat control is as good as or better than anyone elses, period.

Every manufacturer makes good tires, but a lot of them make crappy ones. You get what you pay for. There is no magic tire that muds like a champ, lasts forever and is quiet and gives you +2 mpg on the highway. The A/T is a pretty decent compromise.

ETA: I see you only do 5% on non-roads... you might be able to run the M/S tires... they'll last longer.

I still would not trade my Yokohama Geolander A/T/s which I am on my second set, the first one got me 43k miles

FYI, I've had a set of Michelin A/S tires last to 90k on a 3/4 2wd diesel pickup. The A/T's last less than that, probably around 60-80k.

It can be cheaper to buy expensive tires.

I got a good 90k miles out of a set of Michelin LTX M/S on my old 3/4 ton truck. Rotated every 6' miles and never looked back. They were E range though, so much harder rubber than passenger or C class tires

I have Michelin LTX M/S on my truck and was pleasantly surprised how well they have done in snow and mud.

I run kelly safari tires on my truck. I have always had great luck with them. I have the all-terain and get great mileage and do what I need to do in the pasture.

I have some Treadwrights. Retreaded tires and they have held up so far and have good reviews if you are looking for a cheaper tire.

+96 on the yokohama geolandars. I'm horrible at rotating, drive mostly on pavement, and I got about 50k plus on my last set. Worked well in the sand at big shell and various muddy messes on jobsites

I got 60k+ miles on my BFG All Terrain shoes on a '96 K1500 Z71 Chevy before I sold it, they still had a decent amount of tread left (15%). I bought a new '09 Z71 and when the stocks wear out I will replace with the same. I'm sure everyone gets different results. But FYI.

every time I buy something other than michelins, I am sorry. I usually get them at Sam's.

also Sean, I havent been real impressed by the bridgestone Dueler AT Revos i bought.

I bought them for their 50k warrenty. They are looking pretty grim at 38k. When i had them rotated last, the guy said, "we'll most likely be replacing them in 5k." I agreed.

However, as far as mud and the snow this last year: I wasnt cussing them. So take that for whatever it is worth.

I will second the Hankook Dynapro's, very good tires. Thats what are on my ranch truck and they are great. they are about 75% offroad (rock and caliche) and 25% highway. They are very tough and have lasted a long time.

I have BFG all-terrains on my daily driver and i think they are horrible, only have like 20k miles on them and they are about ready to be changed. I'm gonna try the Nitto Dune Grapplers here pretty soon as I've heard good things about them.

Cooper Discoverer ATR the best tire I have had yet. I drive probably 80% highway 15% rock/gravel semi paved and 5% off the pavement and they have been great and still look great after 12k

Bridgestone Dueler Revo II's 265/70R17. I got the Ag hookup big time (identical truck as yours, down to the year) and was out the door installed for $560 ($204 each on tirerack.com)

I had the BFG A/T KO's and they were loud. These are way quieter and I haven't had trouble with them yet (but I've only had them since April.)

ETA: the BFG's held up for about 40K miles, which the guy said was good for an A/T? Take that FWIW

I have Michelins. 32k miles, no less than 6 flats fixed and one tire replaced. These tires came on my 2010 Ford F150. I drive ~45,000 miles per year and these are without a doubt the least durable tires I have had in the last 5 years.

I have BFG all terrains on my 05 Z71 and they are the best tires I've ever run.

I rotate them every 6k and should get a few more thousand out of them before I have to change them, although they are getting close.

I'll look at the Michelens and the Hankooks, though.

I'm running toyo m/ts on my 2007 ford supercrew 4x4 , got 50k on them now probably got another 5-10k left. I'm like you 90% paved 15% other.

I have had BFG AT's and BFG Long Trails. I prefer the LT for more pavement driving, also less noise.

I only ran Michelin LTX's on my 02 F-150, However when I bought my 3/4 Ton it can w/ BFG Rugged Trails and have had no complaints.

I don't think you can go wrong with either of those.

I'll put in another vote for Michelin tires. I have LTX AT2s on the new truck and they ride very nice. I can't comment on the traction since the truck has not been offroad. We also have Michelin M/S tires on Mrs. WildcatAgs Expedition and they're very smooth as well. I have driven it in fields and on gravel and they do fine.

I've also been happy in the past with Goodyear Wrangler A/Ts and the Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor. The Silent Armors are nice but mine were heavy (since they have kevlar in them) and they hurt the gas mileage a little.

On second thought you should get some of these so you won't be tempted to disguise a mudding adventure as a pheasant hunt.

I hate the Yokohama Geolanders on my F-150. I was much happier with the OEM Bridgestones.

I'm mostly highway, compaired to the OEM, the ride sucks.
