I name my pets after characters in classic TV westerns:

Hoss, Little Jo, Hop-Sing (a bird) from Bonanza.

Audra & Nick from the Big Valley.

Festus from Gunsmoke.

etc.

I want a Great Dane and I want to name him Gus. Also like "Call." Wouldn't mind using an Apache word for warrior or companion or something.

Wanted to name our dog, a collie, after a lake where we went water skiing, but "Mackenzie" didn't work well...this was years before it got to be a common girl's name. So we went with "Travis" for Lake Travis.

Then we find out a guy in our county is named "Travis Collie".

I have a Boudreaux too. He's a Catahoula/Rottweiler mix. Great dog. I had the whole litter (rescues)...the other males were Rex, Gator, Gumbo, Leo, and Clyde.

My other male dogs are:

Champ
Trooper
Sailor (RIP buddy)

I prefer two syllable names. We mostly have females, though, so I can't offer too many suggestions. Our male dogs have been Charlie, Buddy and Roscoe.

In-laws have a dog named Duke.

I also know of a family that named their male dog Deeogee.
