There's a song by The South Austin Jug Band that I always thought would be a couple of cool names for a pair of dogs (especially from this part of the world)...Cactus and Caliche.

I have/had 3 yellow labs. My first being a female named Aussie. My other two were both male. One being Gringo (his registered name was Harle's Amigo De Gringo) and the other being Rio (registered name was Harle's Rio De Janeiro).

Could not ask for better friends than all three. Gringo was a beast of a lab and a robot in the water and field.

For names, I recommend finding a name that represents you and your style. For example, I love Mexico and the Southwest. For working purposes it needs to be a name that is easily identified and is no where close to any commands you will end up using. It needs to be able to be said with sternness without fumbling over the name.

I don't have any examples but as long as you keep it simple and with a meaning for yourself, the dog won't give a sh*t. It's a dog.

Aggman, how do you like your Boykin? That is what I am getting this weekend. I can't wait!

I've only had him for 3 weeks but I am already absolutely in awe of this pup. I've had my eye on Boykins for over two years, I spoke with multiple breeders, and read everything about them I could get my hands on. So far, Zip is everything advertised and then some.
I posted a thread about him this past weekend...I'll bump it for you.

Where are you getting yours and what part of the state are you in?

I am getting him from a breeder outside Hempstead (Texas-Trace Kennel). I have only been researching them for the past few months or so and decided on the buy earlier this week. They had a buyer back out at the last minute which opened up one pup for me. All I hear is great things and can't wait to see what he can do.

I am currently living in Dallas.

excellent, Excellent, EXCELLENT!!! Texas Trace is where Zip came from. Greg and Michelle are outstanding dog breeders and in my experience with them, they are just plain good folks.

I assume you're getting the last male from the litter? Do me a favor. When you get there to pick him up, ask them if he's still wearing the same color collar as when all of the other pups were still there. I was the first to pick from this litter and got to see all the pups. Obviously, we took Zip, but I had my eye on a couple others (especially one in particular....the one in the yellow collar). I'm curious which one you're getting. No matter what, your pup has one hell of a pedigree!!! His grandfather (Decoy) is among the most titled Boykins ever.

This is great!! We'll have to post updates of our pups as the years go by and no doubt we'll meet up at one of Texas Trace's field days.

That is great to hear. Your pup sure does look great. I am so excited. I will definitely let you know what color he had on when you were there and we should also keep up with pics as they grow up. I will post some pics hopefully sometime next week.
