I am deathly afraid of snakes and did NOT appreciate having to deal with that slitherfang so soon in the game. I speared the ever loving crap out of it for a solid minute after it was dead just for good measure.
Snakes don't bother me, spiders are a different matter. I don't think there are any spiders in this game, if I'm wrong then I'm going to be in for a tough time.

Does resonator blast ever get much better? I feel like I have to wail away on something for at least a dozen hits before it ever charges my spear up. By then, whatever I'm beating on is dead or nearly so.

I have come to the realization that spear combat is for human v human. Use all your other weapons on machines.

you do. And in a part of the game I've spent hours in just looking around. The "old world" really shines in this part of the game!"

There is a skill near the bottom of the melee tree that makes the resonator charge much faster

Durn it, it's what I figured. Only just got the quests that send me that way. Swimming is so darn clunky.

And we get one of the first "woke" moments of HFW. Have fun finding it! Side mission.

That quest was awesome, especially the finish. I found that you can climb the giant tower to the top and got some great screen grabs

Also, I don't know whether I love or hate the weapon upgrade system. I've definitely gotten much better at picking of parts than I was in ZD. I love the aim assist with wildlife though. Killing flying birds sucked in the original.

Triple knocked arrows still kickass. Ammo Expert is still a must, but at least the first tier of it isn't deep in the Hunter tree. If you get the triple knocked arrows it's right by it.

The first Valor Surge in the sustainability tree is pretty overpowered once upgraded. Pretty substantial life regen and resistance boosts, and eventually immunity to defended and blinded.

Really enjoying it so far - feeling a little overwhelmed by the amount of weapons already. Kills me upgrading something just to find the better weapon later, but I digress...

Cutscenes have some of the best facial animations I've seen (PS5). Already a few classic "Who tf are these people?" a few main missions into the West.

My biggest confusion is the resonator blast, like Cromagnum mentioned. I'm going to have to do that tutorial again, because I cannot figure out how to charge & strike correctly. I keep doing a power melee

Charge it = hit the enemy with R1/R2
Activate it once spear charged = R2
Detonate it = shoot it with arrow

Anyone else figure out the high volley skill? Its range is crap and 90% of the time it completely misses the target altogether. I only grabbed it so I could grab triple notch faster.

Ya its junk imo. Its gotten me into multiple fights now when i wanted to tripple notch and end up firing a volly into the ground 5ft away lol

LOL. Met my first Thunderjaw at level 12. That thing one shot me with its mouth cannons. I used to hunt two of them at once in HZD for fun on ultra hard. They definitely got a buff in this one. Haha.

Just got into the forbidden west last night. After dropping down and seeing all the downed machines everywhere I almost said wtf happened here out loud. PS4 felt like it was struggling with the battle during The Embassy, just not as smooth as it should be. This game on the PS5 has to be ridiculous.

That fight was pretty wild. I wound up in a fight later where I engaged one of the new bird machines, not realizing he had 3 buddies. Partway through dealing with that mess a herd of the new lancehorns came by and decided they wanted a piece too. It took me 10 minutes to deal with all that chaos.

Base, this is the first game I've played on it where it feels like it's reached the limit of performance. Makes me sad I don't have a PS5. This gives me pause on getting Gran Turismo 7.

Just finished the main quest "Death's Door". Mind blown. It's a pretty long quest, but by the time I got to the end of it, I'm all like "wtf just happened?".

I didn't know what to think once the Kryptonians showed up. Old Professor Xavier and General Zod looking asses.

I just started it today and it's fun but so far seems generic. I haven't went very far though to be fair lol. I like it though.

Made it to level 20, need some better bows. Having a lot of fun but it can take a good bit of fighting to kill some pretty low level machines.

Upgrades come. Just visit as many settlements as possible. Almost all of them have a weapons trader.

Also FW much more the ZD relies on concentrated (slow mo) shots of vulnerable parts. If machine has a weapon, target it first, knock it off and then use it against them!

Yea I noticed in order to collect parts you have to shoot them off, you can't loot everything off the machines after they're dead as they are destroyed.

So this weekend I fought my three biggest machines so far. Shellsnapper took a while, but I was able to handle it, nothing too crazy. My least favorite from HZD, the Rockbreaker, but it seemed way worse this time. It was in a confined area between the two collapsed tunnels. Felt like it was faster this time and way more on target with the aggression, way harder. Had my first Thunderjaw as well, still fun, those are still my favorite to fight.

There is an option in the menus you can turn on so you get all parts from kills. You wouldn't have to shoot them off.

If you don't use that option, scan the enemies and pay attention to the descriptions of the parts. There are a number of things that you can't loot if you shoot them off.

I cheated on that one. I glided in from the east and landed on the overpass. It took a while, but I was able to snipe him down.

Started the game this past weekend and it is amazing. I enjoyed the first game but I think this one is even better so far. The combat is fun, the world is stunning and it's just fun to play.

I love how many weapon types there are and how each one plays uniquely. So many different play styles.

The world is stunning. It's a treat just exploring

Finally got a bow with my air bomb explody arrows. Those were my 100% goto in game 1 for ripping machines apart.

About the only weapon I don't use much is the boltcaster. It's very clunky since you have to manually reload it, and craft ammo for it, and if you get out of synch with that you end up pantsed in a fight when you need it right then.

Same - I got into a ruckus with 3-4+ machines and it confused the hell outta me. I've used it very sparingly so far

Faster reload attachments is what i put in mine i think, will have to check again. I think it helped the last time i used it.
