How are the editing tools on SmugMug?
I was not aware you could edit with smugmug; I use Lightroom.

I use it for online photo storage and the sale of photos with a "shopping cart".

This might have already been covered in the last 59 pages...

but...

What method(s) do you use for organizing your digital photos and backing them up?

I'll hang up and listen.

I use SmugMug for online storage (close to 2mm photos) and have a series of hard drives and RAIDs that are offline for storage at home and in the office.

How are the editing tools on SmugMug?

Even if any online depository of images had editing tools, I'd never use it.

Lightroom, Capture 1, Photoshop are all I use

Thanks, it just caught my interest on their feature listing. I've got Lightroom and Photoshop, but when I'm traveling for work, my work machine doesn't have the horsepower to keep up. Would like to still be able to work on things on the road, but hate lugging my personal laptop with me that has the muscle to crunch big files.

Tom, what's the scoop on Capture 1? How does it fit into your workflow? What does it get you that you can't do with the Adobe stuff?

thanks... one more question...

due to an unusual circumstance, i happen to have about $650 on credit at fw camera... looking for a good camera for carrying when i don't want to carry the monster...

any ideas? can be +/- the amount as well...
Any version of the Sony RX100 is one of the best pocket-able P&S you can buy.

1" sensor, good lens, good image quality.

C1 is more or less a Lightroom replacement used just for portraits..

Not really necessary for most users

None of them places Sid. One I had on order that wasn't supposed to be here until later in the week or early next week was in the mailbox after I typed this.

$$$$ question. I took some pics of a rec league basketball game and now a couple of teams want me to follow them and take pics throughout the season. I have no idea how much to charge. I don't do any post processing (not kidding). I just delete the crappy pics and post the best to their Facebook team page. If they want originals, I could email them the raw or jpeg file.

Do I charge per game?

For the season?

Build a website and let them pick and choose from all the photos?

Help.

I think you should choose an hourly rate / game rate.

For example, $200 per game and you will post all the photos and the can have any they want. Since you don't do any processing it will give you decent income.
Raptor

Wow! I'd love to be able to ask that. These guys won't pay $200 a game and I'm damn sure not at the level where I can command that...yet. It's hard enough to get them to pay their league fees.

Their games are about 90 minutes long. I took just under 200 workable photos to make sure I got everyone in different phases of the game.

These photos are mainly for their Facebook, Insta, and families.

Then pick a price point that will earn you income to show up.

$75
$100
etc

If you take photos and sell them individually, I've found that mostly they look at them and don't buy them.

Thanks. I didn't have a starting spot. I don't even have a business card.

Do I need one?

You can get cheap ones from Vistaprint.com.

However it sounds like you you got a client without them.

Any local to BCS Nikon shooter that can help me determine if I bought a bad camera and/or lens. I have ran AFMA through my Reikan FoCal software twice and will do it one more time but the shots I'm taking are not satisfactory to me. I have 5 more days in which to return. Thanks.

I post team photos on smugmug, never charge, but I only do my kid's teams. I also don't edit, just distill as needed.

I was cleaning out my SD cards this evening. Photos from the last few years had begun to pile up and take up space on my cards.

Well, I mistakenly deleted all of the photos from our Thanksgiving trip to St. Augustine because there was already a folder on my hard drive titled "2018 Saint Augustine" and I assumed that photos had already been copied over.

I was wrong. Those photos got deleted from the SD card.

Are there any software options to recover those files? Or are they gone forever?

Gosh, I feel so stupid and almost sick to my stomach.

Edit: I'm on a MacBook Air and deleted the files from the cards using the Disk Utility. The files were not deleted by dragging them to the trash and then emptying the trash.

If you haven't put any new files on the card your chances of recovery are much better.

You have unlimited google drive storage on the former students email account.

No excuse to not have EVERYTHING backed up!

Because I've been bad about deleting files once I import them. So bad that I end up deleting them on accident. Lesson learned, for sure.

Import to computer plus make sure you have backup software on computer.

Upload photo album to google drive.

Then
Format SD card

I typically format my SD card same day that I take the photos.

going to be traveling for volleyball soon. I still want to record on gopro but not going to bring my 10ft light stand.

Anyone have a recommendation for a compact travel tripod that is small enough to strap to my backpack but can still extend above average human height?
Guitarsoup

8', 10' or 12' max heights collapse to 28", 35", or 45".

thanks for the recommendation but I'm looking for something even smaller. Like 15 inches folded up. I'm thinking no taller than the height of a backpack.

Don't think you can get anything like that that will be tall.

This is probably your best bet, but it is 21"
