Are battles considered training? Therefore, you do not lose HP when the battle is over. Or...do you have to revive and potion the mons after a battle?

For some reason I've watched a few PVP videos so I know a little bit about it. I ran Altaria, Skarmory, and Vigoroth. Azumarill, Registeel, Machamp, and Medicham are a few of the other strong Great League Pokemon I recall. Probably a good idea to start thinking about the other 2 leagues as well. I don't expect to be a pvp god or anything. I just want to win enough fights to get the rewards and not feel helpless.
Of course! One positive is that for the master league many of the Pokmon you've probably posted up for raids/attacking will still be very effective if you have them maxed out. Can you do 5 battles every day for free? Or only every 5km?
I think it's 5k but the premium ones seem to require a premium raid pass.
The buggy charge attack keeps costing me battles. I have a charged attack, hit it, it changes like it's been hit, and nothing happens. I keep taking damage and die. It's really pissing me off...

Well, I went and powered up a registeel with lock on and flash cannon. He wiped the floor with somebody. Lock on does little damage, but it's fast and powers up charged moves quickly. Even a one bar like flash cannon was powering up before whatever he had.
Okay I just ran to get my 5km and did my 5 battles. I used the same team (Altaria, Skarmory, and Vigoroth) and won the next 5. I've come to the conclusion that every person that does this absolutely NEEDS an Altaria with Dragon Breath, Dragon Pulse, and Sky Attack. I won a few matchups only using one shield and without having to use a single mon other than Altaria.
Someone totally clobbered me yesterday with an Altaria. Of course mine is 1745, so I can't use it in the first level. And yes, I have plenty of Swablu I can evolve, I'm just too lazy to do that.

Depends. You may have to use tm's. You can look for calculators that will give you evolved cp.
I went 4-1 on my five battles. Lost the last one on a weak connection. Somehow his Gliscor took out my Gliscor and Registeel.
I use PokeGenie (app) that will show you what their CP would be would you evlove. My Swablu are too strong. Guess I need to catch or hatch a weaker one.Jackal99 said:

Okay, I had a 93% Swablu and used Poke Genie to figure out the Altaria numbers. I evolved it and wound up with Sky Attack and Peck. Should I use a Fast TM or Charged TM on it? I don't understand this part at all.

Charge TM will ger you Dragon Pulse or Dazzling Gleam. DON'T do that.

Another weird thing about these battles...for the lower leagues (great and ultra leagues) perfect IVs aren't optimal for a lot of Pokemon....I am not sure how great of an impact it makes and most of the guys I use in the great league have good IVs because I was not aware of this.
