If so what console, what starting class, and what are your thoughts?

For me I'm getting it for 360, thinking about Pyromancer because he has an item that apparently spawns enemies into someone else's game randomly, and I think it will be awesome because Demon Souls was awesome!

Heck yeah man, Demon's Souls was my favorite game of the last decade. If you have a ps3, then I would probably buy it for that. The ps3 was the lead platform and will probably have a stronger community. Of course you would whip up on the 360 guys in invading because you have played Demon's Souls.

As for starting classes, I am between Wanderer and Pyromancer. As for that item you were talking about, that was specific to the E3 demo...so that item will be available to all classes.

Most threads on gaming websites have these two with the best stats starting out. Pyromancer has a soul level of 1.

For me though, Im probably going Wanderer...

Just picked up Demon Souls per Tex's recommendation. Game is loading now. Will report back.

Don't forgot to tell us what you think!

The first couple of hours are the hardest.

If you are having trouble, make sure to choose the Royal class.

Good luck!

And Demon's Souls wiki page is your friend

Yeah the Wanderer class looks pretty bad ass too. I saw some footage of the deprived class and thought the character looked really cool in his undead form.

Hope they rock the early players like they did in Japan.

Strip off the armor of your pyromancer or wanderer and Im sure you could get the same effect!

Im proud of myself, I have held out on watching any unofficial trailers or gameplay. The unexpected is a huge part of these games!

Its the "spiritual successor." (Sony owns the rights to Demon's Souls.

It is both ps3 and Xbox this go around.

Same developer. FromSoftware. Namco Bandi publishing (wish it were Atlus but hey, what are ya gonna do?)

Excuse the stream of consciousness - easiest way to describe my journey.

I like it A LOT so far.

Started as a Soldier:
Beat the first boss (Phalanx) easily and made it to the Tower Knight after a couple tries. He kicked my ass. Tried several times to make it back (rushing through mainly because I had already played it and just wanted to fight the boss again). Kept getting killed by the tougher knights whose faces(?) glow blue and various other annoying semi-easy guys. Awkwardly fumbled through the equipment/inventory screens. Died a few times before making it back to my corpse to recover all my souls, which sucked. Spent all my souls on moon grass(?) for health and a new sword from the Nexus.

Decided to start over as a Royalty. This time I caught something I hadn't before - "go talk to so-and-so in the Nexus". Talked to him, accepted the mission, it unlocked 4 worlds, which was cool. Also discovered talking to the woman in the Nexus for a SECOND time gave me the ability to upgrade my character stats - I totally missed this the first time. I spent most of my souls upgrading my vitality for health, and then some on magic, endurance, and strength. Went back into 1-1 and realized all the dragons were gone so I was able to go easily recover all the items out on the cliff. Had to watch a YouTube video that showed me where the Thief's Ring was - tricky to get to! The jumping/climbing over things mechanic seems awkward and unpredictable. Watched another video on defeating the Tower Knight. Made it to him, and I kept having trouble with locking on to his feet and the camera angle. I would lock on and the camera would be all over the place while I tried to run behind him, throwing me off and getting my ass kicked. I also had trouble with it locking on to his torso or head and then switching with the right stick to his feet. I can't figure out how it chooses where to change targets to (up doesn't appear to go up to the next target and down doesn't move downward, like I would expect).

Took FOREVER and many half-moon items to defeat him, but I finally did. Spent more souls on upgrading my Scimitar (not sure if it's a waste because I'll get better stuff later). Also bought full plate armor (not sure if I should because it makes me slower)? I read somewhere about people unequiping leggings to go faster? I don't get that because it seems there is just an "item burden" and "equipment burden" - I don't see a stat about speed...
Also upped my vitality more.

Decided to try 2-1. Realized quickly that my blade sucks against these slow-moving guys. I saw tips saying to use a piercing attack..I don't have a spear with Royalty like I did with my Soldier, but I think I have a mail-breaker(?) sword or something that has piercing damage. Didn't matter too much, because my spell took them down quickly. Then I ran into this fat jester-looking guy who killed me quick with fire (I even had my fire resistant ring equipped). Now I'm back in soul form with half-life and I guess I'll give it another shot this evening.

Any tips, feedback, advice, guidance, etc. would be appreciated!
It feels so different not having a tutorial, slowly introducing things and explaining everything.

Ha, good to hear. I hate recommending games that someone ends up not liking. The game is hit or miss. Either you love it, or you hate it.

Yup, a total pain.

In Demon's Souls this is easy mode...and there is NO shame in that whatsoever. Pure melee is the toughest.

Yes, this is important. Ha.

Don't forget dexterity if you want to use big time bows. Sticky Compound Bow +5 is wicked awesome.

This is because after you beat the Planax (sp), your "world tendancy" trended towards WHITE. Die in the level with your body...it goes further towards black. Get on wiki to understand how this works. Its actually pretty complicated...but it matters.

Yup. There is no shame in using guides or wiki.

Good work. Lots of people don't even get that far.

Pro tip...Don't always lock on.

In Demon's Souls, the faster the better. With equip burden being lower than 50's you roll FAST. This is more important than the armor. Though the flute armor looks cool. You want to move faster. Apparently in Dark Souls, they re-did this system a bit and now heavy armor is more useful in stopping damage, but you can't roll for sheet.

You have a rapier with the Royal class. Worked fine for me. Remember, you have Soul Arrow, a very useful spell.

Tips, I would probably go. 1-1, 1-2, 2-1, maybe 2-2 or 4-1. (4-1 really teaches you to roll and you can get the cresent falchion sword...A fav. of lots of people). 3-1, 4-1 are some of my favorite levels.

Dude you are doing great. Lots of people don't get as far as you did.

Keep posting thoughts!

Glad you are enjoying it.

Demons Souls was awesome! Played melee with occasional sniping. Armor is worthless even for melee. Speed and easy movement matter most. A good shield that blocks 90-100% damage is all the defense you will ever need.

Biggest tip: play cheap. This game does not play fair. You get the same experience hand to hand, shooting from across the room or using poison cloud.

The way I did it was 1-1, 2-1, 3-1, etc, and then after 5-1, going back to 1-2. That worked really well for me. I struggled a slight bit on 2-1, but once i got the shortcut, I was off and running. After that, the only part that really gave me any sort of trouble was Flamelurker (2-2 boss). He's a ***** to defeat.

Of course, that's just my experience. Part of the fun is carving your own path and having fun with it. Just make sure you level up on your first playthrough; there is a huge jump in difficulty once you go new game+

Also, a little tip for the tower knight. Run past him, go up the stairs, kill all the guys up there and use distance attacks on him (soul arrow or bow). He has an attack for you up there, but it is pretty easy to dodge

Beat the armored spider, used souls to upgrade character more. Lowered my equipment to be <50% of the max so now I roll faster. Also found the miracle and spell teachers (they were unusable when I found them before because I hadn't spoken to the Monument).

Had a couple black phantoms invade and kick my ass...it just doesn't seem fair that they can have such better equipment, skills, stats, etc. vs. a noob
It also was a stalemate for a while, going back and forth, and I wasted a bunch of moon grass. Any tips?

Also, as long as I'm going to be upgrading my character or buying stuff, is there any reason why I shouldn't constantly be cashing in my demon souls (the kind you use from your inventory that add to the soul stock)?

Tips for first spells and miracles to learn? I added heal, and then realized I needed a talisman before I can use it...looking forward to finding one so I don't have to constantly waste my moon grass.

Is there no where to SELL found items? Gonna try out 4-1 now!

I hope you aren't using the souls that the Boss demon's drop. Those can be switched in for spells and stuff. Highly advised to NOT cash them in for souls. How is that fast roll? Makes a ton of difference right?

He is within 10 soul levels from you. Give or take. The problem is that if he is a vet player (and probably is this late in the game), he is just that good. You could in theory beat the whole game on level 1, and still invade new players because your soul level is still that low. Also, there are certain builds that are just better for PvP as opposed to PvC. This is a good reason to jump on Dark Souls early...Lots of noobs.

So long as you aren't cashing in your Boss Demon's souls, then no. I wouldn't BUY much equipment unless its consumables. You can find just about anything else out there.

I don't think I ever used a healing spell.

Beat 4-1...the skeletons seemed ridiculously hard at first and then I got the hang of it...then randomly, they'd kick my ass again. The boss was easy and I cheaply picked the vanguard off from afar with a bow magic.

Think I'll try 3-1 now.

Yeah, I was cashing in the Boss demon's souls - doh! After beating 4-1, I have the Adjudicator's soul but I see nowhere to trade it in - I've talked to both of the teachers.

EDIT: Just purchased Enchant Weapon and didn't realize I wouldn't be able to use it on my Crescent Falchion +1. I can't tell how much Enchant Weapon affects my Scimitar +4, it appears the weapon stats are unaffected when I cast it?

Which would be better then?
Crescent Falchion +1
physical attack 67
magical attack 82 +22
(171)

or

Scimitar +4
physical attack 112
magical attack 0
(112) but WITH Enchant Weapon

Been a while, but there are four places to trade in boss souls. Miracle man, magic man, witch lady and blacksmith. First three are in the nexus and the last is in 2-1 after you activate the lift and go down. Its just another thing to buy but the cost is your boss soul. They don't change dialog or anything.

I'll be honest, I don't know much about the Enchatments. Hell, I beat the game on two playthroughs with a Rapier +10.

Many pro players like the Cresent Falchion +5.

I didn't know we had some many Demon's Souls players on TexAgs.

I heard that you can't have Xbox Live Parties or Private Chats in Dark Souls and that it will boot you to the main screen if you try to set one up midgame. I have a PS3, and I'm used to that, but man, if you are debating on which console to get it on, I thought that I should let you guys know.

Will the spells/miracles come up later? The only ones I'm seeing strictly cost the standard souls (e.g. 500, 5000, 20000 souls).

Thank gawd. I support FromSoftware taking a stand on this. They know what experience they want to give players. To have "chat" in this game would IMO totally break the immersion of solitude the game wants to portray.

As for the magic....

Yes, you will find NPC's (some require alot of work actually so if you havn't checked out wiki, you might want to in this regard) that will trade you magic for your boss souls.

Im waiting for next Tuesday, and this thread has helped!

I was going to but NBA 2k12 came out. This sounds like a game I should play over Christmas break when I have a little more time to devote to it, so I decided to go with the game I could play for an hour or so a day and not feel the need to sit down for 8 hours and neglect being productive.
