Texans are quietly killing this draft. Take spiller in the 4th and you've got easily 6 solid players that will get starting roles or significant playing time next year.

I 100% agree with this comment….this is a new GM that knows what he is doing, they need a RB, but all is good otherwise.

I like Spiller and want him to be successful but I'd prefer Zamir White. They are the same size but White runs with more power than Spiller, he's violent, plus I kinda like the idea of us with a RB nicknamed Zeus. I say draft him or the DT from OU in the 4th.

Very much disagree. Zamir white running "with power" is him running into OLs backs. We've got like four rbs already on our roster that can do that.

Give me vision. Give me spiller.

I'm torn on who I want next. Spiller is there, but I also really like Zyon McCollum CB out of Sam Houston and Kingsley Enagbare DE out of South Carolina. All of them will be gone in the first half of round 4.

I'm hoping if we don't go DE in round 4 we can grab Clemons in round 5, but worried he might go in the second half of round 4.

There's also Perrion Winfrey, the DT out of Oklahoma, who would probably fit with what we're trying to do.

Need to use the 5s & 6s to try an get another 4. Snag Spiller and a pass rusher.

Amare Barno would be an interesting pick. 6'5" 250 DE who ran a 4.36.

Also, what the heck is Tennessee doing? Traded away a 24 year old stud WR then traded up for a QB, albeit in the 3rd round. Those are the moves of a rebuilding team, not one trying to get over the hump.

They might be going into transition mode, see what they can do for 1 maybe 2 years with Henry and Tannehill then reset the team. Biggest thing for them is that no one is going to win a championship with a RB focused team right now.

On Barrno, he is definitely an interesting prospect that would could probably grab in the 5th round.

What kind of pick could you get with a 5th and two 6th? Does that get you something in the 4th or only top of the 5th?

Would like to see them hold on to one 5th.

This will be unpopular but a RB has 6-8 years. Texans won't be playoff potential for 3-4 years. This year load up on the trenches or WR and secondary. We are okay at RB thanks to free agency and can put that off another year or two.

I agree with this for the first 3 rounds (and it appears the Texans did as well). But 4th round on, I'm fine taking a back. You're still gonna need RBs and late round picks provide cheap labor and you're typically not forgoing too much in doing so.

Improving the running game will help Davis Mills, and you don't want too many rookies at a single position group. Putting veterans around them helps from a development standpoint, and even if they all develop, then they all hit free agency at the same time.

We're not ok at running back b/c of free agency. We definitely needed the Pierce kid.

3-4 years?

it may take that long, but there are dozens of teams in the league that have been as bad as the Texans that were able to turn things around in 1-2 years

Yea, but you have to remember. We're talking about the Texans here.

Last years draft was good and now that we have been able to get some top tier talent I think we should improve some this year. That being said, all comes down to QB in the end

Nice! Good value contract to see if he can reproduce that this year and then probably replace the production next year through the draft.

Final thoughts on the draft:

Round 1, No. 3 overall: Derek Stingley Jr, CB, LSU
Grade: This is a tough one, but I give it an A
It's a gamble, but this team is in a position to gamble on someone who has the potential to be the hands down best player in this draft class. Now is the time to take risks with the team in rebuild mode.

Round 1, No. 15 overall: Kenyon Green, OG, Texas A&M
Grade: B+
Probably a bit too high, but would have been gone if we traded down. This is a head scratcher on the draft "analysts" I see who give this a D saying it's waaay too early for Green, but then give the Chargers and A for taking Zion two picks later. I just think people were mad that Houston didn't take the DE Johnson. I've seen laughable bad takes on Green, to the point that someone actually said he doesn't have the athleticism to play guard in the NFL which is hilarious. My thoughts are that Kenyon is the best IOL in the draft and you can put him literally anywhere on this line for an upgrade, so wish we would have gotten him after one more trade down, but happy with him on the team.

Round 2, No. 37 overall: Jalen Pitre, S, Baylor
Grade A
Love the Pitre pick. Hopefully Lovie wants to use him in the Nickel like Houston and KC used the honey badger, and this will be one of those picks where people question why he wasn't taken in the first.

Round 2, No. 44 overall: John Metchie III, WR, Alabama
Grade C
This is a tough one, because I really like Metchie as a prospect, but I don't think they needed to trade up to get him like they did. I think they could have waited some and not use as much capital as the did to move up. Also, while I think Metchie has potential to be good, I don't think he was specifically better than the other WRs available, so we reached to get him.

Round 3, No. 75 overall: Christian Harris, LB, Alabama
Grade A
I like this pick a lot. He should fit Lovie's defense really well, since he likes his LBers playing in space. He's not a polished player and still needs work, but, that's why he's in the 3rd round and not the 1st.

Round 4, No. 107 overall: Dameon Pierce, RB, Florida
Grade B
Good back, I think there were better ones available, but at the same time, he's a workhorse with low milage that will take a while to be run into the ground....yeah him?

Round 5, No. 150 overall: Thomas Booker, DT, Stanford
Grade B
Nice depth pick with starter potential in this defense. He seem like a guy that again can fit in Lovie's defense that relies on the interior d-line to get penetration.

Round 5, No. 170 overall: Teagan Quitoriano, TE, Oregon State
Grade ?????
I have never heard of this guy and I don't know of any real tape, so maybe they found a hidden gem. No clue?

Round 6, No. 205 overall: Austin Deculus, OT, LSU
Grade B - Good depth guy for a backup tackle. Doesn't really have the agility to ever be a starter at tackle, but maybe the coaches think they can work with him and see how he does at guard which would be a big project since he's only played tackle his entire football life.

Overall this is a solid B+ to A draft, and I'm still excited about the future.

regarding Metchie...he helped the Ags win back in October with a couple of drops...including a huge one on 3rd down in the 4th quarter. Will need to improve the hands

After 2 drafts, you can begin to identify Caserio's general strategy. He likes to identify assets that have huge talent, but have an issue that has caused them to slide. He easily overlooks issues like injuries (Mills/Stingley/Metchie), lack of playing time (Nico Collins), playing in multiple positions (Green, Pitre), and imperfect measurables (Lopez, Wallow).

Last year I thought he bought a bunch of lottery tickets...and many of them actually came up winners.

I think this years draft was slightly less "risky", but it still holds true to his general philosophy.
MelvinUdall
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I think they did well in this draft, time will tell when it is all said and done. I think we are definitely the thought process of Ceserio and his philosophy, let's just hope this plays out good for the Texans.

Lance Z talked about the day 3 picks this morning on the radio and said the offensive staff loves Teagen and is a solid pick up for what they wanted; good blocker in zone and running, but understand he's not the best receiver.

Also mentioned Deculus was basically a reach and waste of a pick, does not expect him to make the team.

And on top of that if you wanted Mayfield why wasn't he in the Watson deal?
