Man, you have a lot more faith in Kellen than I do. Hope you're right.

I don't really... what I was emplying is Kellen doesn't get the "I don't have any WRs excuse". We have weapons that can move the chains. He needs to figure it out.

I also have a feeling that Quinns defense is going to give him plenty of short fields to work with.

Has the team announced who will be responsible for clock management inside four minutes? I feel like this responsibility should be delegated to someone other than McCarthy
Nahhh McCarthy will be good! He took a year off to study analytics, remember?

For those interested in NFL networks top 100. Here are the cowboys voted on so far

95. CeeDee Lamb
92. Tyron Smith
68. Zack Martin (ridiculous)
44. Dak Prescott

They're through 31 now. Gotta imagine Diggs and Parsons are the only 2 left. My guess is Diggs is ~25 and Parsons ~10.

I think that's fair for Diggs being 25-30. I gotta think Parsons will be more around the 17-23 range.

That would be fair enough for Parsons after year 1. But there is a chance he'll be the best defensive player in the NFL this year.

I haven't seen a single positive preview of the Cowboys outside of Cowboys dedicated observers. The "national" pundits universally believe the Boys got worse or at least didn't improve in ANY aspect over the offseason.

I heard one who essentially said he just didn't believe you could win with Jerry as the owner. What brilliant analysis!!

It's easy to miss if you don't follow the team closely. But I believe they improved in key areas. The interior OL and DL were weak points last year. The games lost were mainly due to not being able to stop physical run games. Offensively, they were #1 overall but they struggled with teams who could pressure right up the middle and get in Daks face.

Tyler Smith looks like the solution to the OL problem. We need Tyron to stay healthy though because swing tackle looks like a weakness. On the DL we just get everyone back from injury. We didn't have a lot of guys last season and still had the #1 DVOA in the league due mainly to TOs forced. If the run defense gets squared away this could be an even better defense. I love the overall depth and the multitude of young guys who look promising. I think Dante Fowler will contribute early.

The big question marks are kicker, backup QB and swing tackle. Add in the revelation that we may have a gamebreaking kick returner now and I don't see why this team can't be better and be a real contender.

I think the national media has a point. We didn't add any obvious playmakers (until Turpin came out of nowhere) and we lost Amari. We had the #1 offense and that's hard to hold year to year. So you'd expect some fall-off there even with the same personnel. We had a great turnover margin and that's luck based phenomenon that probably won't repeat. Even is Trevon Diggs plays better than last year he probably won't get as many picks. Parsons had one of the best rookie years ever and sophmore slumps are so common they have a name. For all the young guys getting older and better, we have key guys getting older and worse, like Tyron Smith, Zeke, and Tank.

Yeah I'm not mad about it. On paper I can see the logic of it. I just personally think the only real asset we lost is Amari and even he wasn't producing at a high level here. Lamb is ready to be #1 and Gallup will be back. I just love what they did in the trenches. We had good overall stats last year but this team was flawed. I think it'll be a more solid team with a better chance of making a run. Dak will have a monster year.

I'm not one to bet against a streak, and the NFC East has a very long history now of the division winner taking a step back the next year. So I'm staying with that. I see some areas may improve, but I really question the WR corps and how Dak will deal with that

You aren't wrong, but there is currently only 1 team in the East that has a legitimate franchise QB and he wears a Star on his helmet. When you also consider we probably/possibly have the nastiest defense in the East, it's hard to imagine us not breaking the trend.

In the 6 games vs. the East last year we outscored them 240 to 107. Fair to say those other guys got a lot of ground to make up!

Word on the street is the Pats are shopping Wynn. Could be an answer for swing tackle?

Philly does have ground to make up. That said, they did add playmakers to their O while Dallas subtracted. And I'm also eyeballing the schedule. Dallas has got the Rams, Cincy, and TB, while Philly will have a Roethlisberger-less Pitt, NO, and Arizona. For teams that finished with 3 games between them in the standings, schedule alone could set up a flip. Dak needs to step up

One thing we have going for us is we have too many good players on the D-line right now. We are going to cut a guy that could play for another team. That may be the best way for us to pick up a swing tackle or WR.

Teams may not be interested in somebody like Hill (and I doubt we are ready to part ways with a high draft pick who's finally starting to produce), but it allows us to use solid vets like Watkins as bait. Watkins can start / be valuable back-up for many teams in the league. Hopefully we can get something done.

Yeah, Hurts has a lot of targets to go along with a top RB. Philly D will be nasty. Two team race for NFC East.

Giants and Skins will suck.

I've never heard that statement from any coach....ever.

Maybe not at the college level... but in the NFL when you have a 53 man roster, you absolutely can have too many at one position.

You can't keep them all, might as well try and get something for one of them.

This is why I expect Philly to win the division. I don't think Philadelphia is a better team than Dallas. But I think they will have close enough records in their common games that the three game schedule difference you mentioned will be enough for Philly to finish a game ahead in the standings. Wouldn't surprise me at all to see Philly finish at 12-5 while Dallas finishes at 11-6 with both teams going 5-1 in the division.
DannyDuberstein

Right. The schedule is partly why the division champ has flip-flopped each year. These franchises have been pretty close in the big picture, and the 1st place schedule has played a role in the annual flip-flop. Dallas is about to play the past 2 SB champs and the AFC champ who appears to have a lock down franchise QB, while Philly's test is the sliding smurf and two stiffs. When nearly 20% of your schedule is that different, it is a factor

Predictions for the 53 man roster?

One of mine is our resident special teams ace, CJ Goodwin, will not make the team. There are a handful of younger guys that I know the Cowboys like at Safety, WR, TE, & LB... all of which can play ST. We already have 3 ST spots reserved (Kicker, Punter, Deep Snapper)... I don't think we'll be able to reserve a 4th spot this year.
txagman1998
How long do you want to ignore this user?

That seems to be what the analysts are saying. Sounds like Nahshon Wright is the new CJ Goodwin?
jr15aggie
How long do you want to ignore this user?
AG
Yeah, as much as we want to think Bossman and Nahshon could be cut, teams (especially the Cowboys) love their draft picks and they don't simply get rid of those guys after only 1 season unless there is no hope.

Both those guys will make the team and a guy like Wright should be a perfect fit to take over special teams duty. As good as CJ might be, if you have no value as an offensive or defensive player it's really hard to justify one of the 53 spot on a roster.

The "room for CJ?" conversation has definitely come up in years past, but I think there are too many young guys that show promise this year... don't think he makes it.

Especially if they decide to keep an extra WR along with Turpin. The ST only spot would be filled

Frick! Tyron already hurt. Getting an MRI on his knee. Time to go get a free agent tackle Jerry.

Eric Fisher seems like a good stop gap

Jesus. If they can't make a trade then either Smith or Martin have to be the left tackle. Ball is terrible

If only people had foreseeen the possibility of him continuiing to be injury prone this late into his career, which is near the end, and thought the Cowboys should be looking to draft his replacement.
Ag Natural
How long do you want to ignore this user?

Well he's only 31 and missed 6 games last season. I think everyone assumed he would miss some time. That's why they drafted Ball and Waletsko. Smith also play LT in college. So they probably figured they were covered. Unfortunately, Ball has been terrible and Walesko had a shoulder problem. They definitely need to trade for someone.

Tyron Smith is only 31, but because he entered the league at such a young age, the miles on the odometer are massive. Pretty piss poor job of preparing for the inevitable. They have a QB that when he hears footsteps, his game goes to **** and an LT who was pretty much guaranteed to miss at least a month of the season. They really didn't address it at all.

We all knew Tyron was going to get injured at some point during the season. Didn't even make it to the first game. So frustrating.
