I know they have to say positive things about the receiver room in camp. Still, I won't be surprised if they start the season without signing or trading for another receiver. Dennis Houston SZN I guess…
I've already said that the WR position was the Cowboys biggest failure in the offseason.... but... I'm not gonna discount this group until we at least see a couple of pre season games.
The reality is we have a really good QB, 1 really good WR and a really good TE. On top of that we have Pollard and Zeke (in that order) as weapons. If Kellen can't, at the very least, be productive with that then he's not very good at his job.
I'm also starting to think we might have one of the nastiest defenses in the NFL. Plenty to be optimistic about right now.

I think the defense will be sneaky good and the driving force of this team. Dak and the O just need to get back to efficient offense that doesn't turn the ball over.
If Kellen is halfway decent at his job he can find ways to use a top 10 QB to distribute the ball between Lamb, Dalton, Pollard, and Zeke.
No reason why we shouldn't dominate the east and take our chances into the playoffs.

I think having a weaker wide receiver corps might help Kellen. It will force him to run the ball.
As far as receiver is concerned, sounds like Noah Brown is having a really nice camp. I know that doesn't always translates to a productive season but here's hoping.
Got caught up on some Ticket segments this weekend and heard a mind-blowing stat they threw out earlier in the week: the last time the Cowboys won their division and then finished the next season with a better record than the year before (which we're obviously hoping for this season) was…

I mean, I'm cool w 11-5 this year if they win a playoff game. There's Also 3 super bowl wins during that time and 2 of them back to back so this stat doesn't seem to really mean much.
Yep. In 93 they ended up with more losses than the previous year... still won the super bowl again.

It was part of an entire segment they dedicated to examining just how big of an impact playing a first place schedule due to the prior year's success has on teams. I didn't realize it only really impacts 2 games (now 3 in the 17-game schedule), but obviously with as close as division races have become nowadays, dropping 1 or 2 of those harder games can make a huge difference. It was Cowboys-focused, so unfortunately I don't have this data for the rest of the league, but I agree it would be interesting to dive into.

As some of us have hinted at... this defense is shaping up to be quite a force in '22. The D-line has been nothing but impressive, top to bottom. Guys like Trysten Hill have really stepped up, but no roster spot is safe because so many guys are really playing well.
Need to keep our CB's healthy above all else... our back-ups behind Diggs, Brown & Lewis have been about the only thing people have criticized so far in camp. Looks like Bossman was too caught up in trying to be a gangster this offseason... doesn't sound like he's progressed much, if any, this offseason.

I guess with these Mickey Mouse practices with silly head gear and league restrictions and preseason games with players of note rarely playing, nobody will really know until 5 games into the regular season how good anybody is.
Remember when McCoy and Poe were going to shore up the d-line?

Agreed. Always impossible to tell until the games start and we go up against other teams.

Osa was balling out until he hit the rookie wall last year (not uncommon going from college ball to a now 17 game NFL season). Gallimore has also been trending up since he got here, but had an injury set back last year. We have good reason to think our D-line (and our front 7 as a whole) will be noticeably better this year.

Pretty sure last year everyone thought the team would be average at best and leaned toward bad, especially the defense. Then Diggs takes a leap. Micah and Osa show up as rookies ready to play. And Dan Quinn made a big difference.Southlake said:

This year I don't hear anyone saying the defense will improve again despite some pretty obvious facts. Several guys coming back from injury who basically didn't contribute last year. 2nd and 3rd year guys getting better (as they tend to do). And everyone I listen to has pretty much made it a lock that the offense will sputter without HOFers Cooper and Wilson.
We shall see. I do remember McCoy and Poe both getting injured. Injuries in general are what scare me most. If we have a key OL go down it could be rough again.
I have a bad feeling Dallas won't be able to run the ball at all and will rely on Prescot to pull out victories with his arm. We'll see how that goes, but I doubt it'll go well.
Bold prediction: 8-8 going into week 19 with a chance to make the playoffs but not in control of their destiny
