I know he's had some issues with his back...I would think if there was any medical, we would have seen that somewhere.

i read that too, but it sounds like it was 100% the contract numbers and he was wanting something closer to market

Jerry probably called his agent and said, "what's the rush to sign with the Ravens? Ask your client if he would like to be a Cowboy and live in Dallas instead of Baltimore."

Pretty crazy to me that in a football crazy state like Texas, we have perhaps 2 of the most poorly run franchises within that state.

If he's healthy, Smith would be a definite upgrade over Gregory.

Jerry was born in California and grew up in Arkansas. Don't put that evil on Texas.

We get it already - the Cowboys' front office sucks.

You starting to sound like a broken record.

No, I was just making sure Texans fans were aware of this as well.

I always view this thread anticipating some news, but it's usually crap about how creepy the Jones family is or how much the front office sucks. I wish they would make some moves to give folks something to talk about.

They just resigned Kearse to a 2 year deal. That not newsworthy enough?

The Bengals just went to the Super Bowl. That should give every fan base hope regardless of the track record of the front office.

Kearse is a big win for the front office. Very obviously a player that benefited greatly from a certain coordinator.

We obviously wanted him back but not at pro bowl money. We had to sit tight and hope some dumb ass team didn't overpay for a guy that's been a JAG with every other team.

Glad to have him back

Really frustrating that we didn't even get in the mix. We now have the 2nd most cap space and running out of guys to use it on.

Dang. I didn't realize he missed the whole season with back surgery.

So what are we saving all this cap space for?

No idea. Luckily if you have cap space left you can carry it over to the next year so you don't have to blow it all if you don't find the right deals.

If I had to guess, I am betting Dallas wants Wagner at a 1 year deal and he's looking for more of a commitment. Dallas loves to play the comp picks game.

Our punter.

And next season. Jerry pocketing some walking around money this year while telling the fans yet again how much better they'll be.

Definitely getting the feeling that this is a semi-rebuilding year. They know they can still have success in the division this year as-is. They are gonna keep plugging the holes with free agent value guys, draft BPA, and actually have a large amount of cap space next year.

Hopefully we can get somebody like Wagner on 1 year value deal. Need to plug some o-line holes as well. We still need help even if we aren't fully "going for it" next year.

I just don't want to sign any players with injury issues. Poe and McCoy never really made it on the field. The 17th game just makes the season that much more brutal.

I'm starting to wonder if we see a Dallas "injury" special in the 2nd round again this year. That stud edge rusher Ojabo that tore his achilles... with the way they are treating this offseason they would probably be more than fine with a redshirt year for a top 5 talent.

If he's there at 56 it wouldn't surprise me one bit knowing our history.

Interesting stat I saw in the interwebs for those upset about Gregory leaving.

Gregory: 29 years old, 56% of the snaps, 6 sacks, 29 QB pressures

Armstrong: 24 years old, 55% of the snaps, 5 sacks, 22 QB pressures

Think the cowboys may have got good value in Armstrong.

Count me as someone who is glad we didn't get him signed. I would much rather spread it out with signing other players. I have lots of faith in Quinn.

Also, how many dumb penalties did Armstrong have in the playoff game?

Here's a hypothetical about Gregory vs having cap space:

Let's say we draft a Guard #1 and that guy turns in 3/4 of a Zach Martin rookie season.

Let's also say we draft a solid LB that allows Micah to get after the QB more often.

We also get a solid WR.

All of this is very possible in this draft. Let's say all of this happens and we are humming along pretty well next year. Then Tyron goes down again. Are we better off having Gregory or having cap space to make a mid season deal with an OT that is going to help this team?

My point, going back a week or so, is this team needed to stop re-signing players just because they were good. Randy was/is a good player.... but how did he help us against SF? He didn't. Stop giving these guys $10 mil per year contracts. I'm hoping this year plays out in a way that shows this front office this concept

Tyreek Hill anyone?

So we got a 5th round pick for Cooper and Tyreke Hill fetches a 1st, 2st, 4th, 5th and 6th (spread over 2 years).

Sounds about right

I will be very interested to see how Mahomes performs with no Hill in the lineup.

Imagine if the Cowboys would have waited two weeks what they could have gotten for Amari.

What a bargain for the Browns, and Stephen gets fleeced again.

It was not really the same situation. Cooper had to be dealt so his money would not become guaranteed. It was obvious he would be cut if not traded. The Chiefs were not going to cut Hill.
