I want to hope that the Cowboys are impressed with Wilson and the younger safeties. My worry is that this is Jerry refusing to invest anything in safety just like the last 20 years

LVE coming back on a 1 year deal

I def understand being cautious, but we got something like $35m in cap space now. Unless they have some blockbuster deal, I think Kearse wants to be here. I just don't like the strategy of deliberately offering well below market for these guys and hoping they just 'want to be a Cowboy'. I think that strategy will be a long term loser.

You aren't wrong and I want Kearse back too. I just have a feeling him and his agent were hoping for a blockbuster deal after the year he had. Can't pay that, but no issues offering him a fair deal.

So it looks like we also got back LVE for 1 and Armstrong for 2. Eh, OK. Add in Kearse and I'm good with bringing back those guys. Now how about some new blood!

Sign our guys and bring in Bobby + a proven EDGE. My dream still remains in somehow landing Danielle Hunter & hopefully the Vikings cut him like we did La'el

LVE isn't very good. The prob with paying vets that aren't good is that they don't give you much on special teams. If they give LVE anything above $5m, that is a terrible idea, IMO.

Clowney is still out there so I have hope that they could pair him with Tank.

Well, I'm not sure what the value of LVE's 5th year option was going to be, so whatever he signed for sure as heck have better been less than that.

Probably more of a "just in case" move for Dallas and a 1 year "I can still play and stay healthy" prove it deal for LVE. Even if he plays better I fully expect this to be his last year in Dallas.

Kearse's market about a year ago was 1 year and $1.1 mill after 5 years in the league. Quinn used him well and his value us up from that, but I see no issue with being cautious. Don't wanna tie too much up in what still could be a flash-in-the-pan. These are the Jaylon watchouts

Agree. Go one more round at value. Given LVE made a pro bowl in 2018, the 5th year extension would have been equal to the transition tag tender, which is a huge chunk of change

Yeah I thought I remember seeing that 5th year would have been $13m. Way too much.

Yeah that's my thinking too. He got into a system and started having success... he feasted off of it. No doubt he had a ton of fun playing the game, but no doubt he also saw $ in his future.

I don't know the man... will he play the same way after he gets his first real NFL contract? Love to have him back, but like we said, a bit of caution is needed.

Yes, in that neighborhood. I saw $15 million for this year's group, although I don't know of that is guys where 2022 would be their 5th year or 2023. But regardless, somewhere in that $13-15 mill range would have been the price for one year.

LVE deal is for about $3m. That's not bad. Still would love to make a run at Wagner and Clowney

We signed James Washington to a 1 year deal. I felt like he would be a good signing and he should come in and start for us while our draft pick develops.

They've added James Washington, too. I think that's probably a really good signing that won't get a ton of headlines. Washington has had poor QB play. I think he'll be really good here.

Fowler gives them a starting caliber DE. Not great, but gives them solid rotation.

I'm not going to complain…. The ATL retreads have fit in pretty well so far.

And at that price it could leave room for </praying emoji> Fletcher Cox!?!?

If DQ wants a defensive player, I'm all about it.

I think we've got room to add Cox, Wagner and Kearse. I think add a decent FA guard to give some insurance and go into the draft with that. That would allow to pick BPA and not be beholden to any position.

Keep waiting for that splash signing that we all know won't happen. So far the boys are simply managing a roster.

Dak will take Dallas to 9-7 next year and Jerry will give him a 7 year $300mm deal.

While they said one thing publicly (which they had to), dallas was clearly hesitant to pay Dak. The qb market is just stupid $$$ in general.

Dallas/Jerry/Stephen have definitely swung the pendulum too far in different directions over the past 20 years. We saw the error in signing too many big name / big $ free agents. So we swung the pendulum in the complete other direction and only gave big $ to "our guys".

Neither strategy has worked. It's why I said the Randy Gregory miss was a blessing. We gave a few of our guys some $ already... now it's time to use the rest on some hired guns.

PS: The real opportunity was missed after Dak & Zeke blew up their rookie years. We had plenty of cap room going into that off-season and for whatever reason we saved it. They should have gone all in!

We had Dak for 3 more years on the mega cheap. We had Zeke for 3 more years + 5th year option. Should have found a few studs willing to play on 2-3 years deals and just thrown $ at them.

That also might have saved us from the Zeke deal because we wouldn't have had as much free space to redo his deal when we still owned him for 2 more years.

IIRC Romo's cap hit that year was like 20 million. That really kept us from making a lot of noise in free agency

We did have Romo's cap hit, but I'm pretty sure they made him a post June 1 cut and split his cap hit over 2 years. My memory might be a bit off... but I'm pretty sure I remember thinking they did that so they could save money to sign some free agents.

When they didn't I was really frustrated and not sure why they didn't just bite the bullet and take 100% of Romo's cap hit right away so they could have a ton of money the following year.

I remember them doing a whole lotta nothing... eventually re-signing Jaylon and giving in to Zeke's demands. Gross!

strong suggestion that he saw what some of the other pass rushers were getting on the market and wanted something more commiserate. his original deal was 4 for 35. which is low considering what RG got.
