McClain wrote a story about Caserio in the Chronicle talking about how he gets out there and throws passes to the WR group, or instructs young DBs on technique. Also went into detail about Caserio's history as an assistant coach.

Reality is though if you looked around the league you would likely see most GMs out there mixing it up with the players at this stage of camp.

I think McClain has come around to how differently the organization is being run right now. He was one of the biggest complainers at the beginning and now he is just writes fluff mostly.

I'm sure this is the "Patriot way", but that organizational ethos basically landed in a Boston dumpster once TB12 took his trophies and left.

Hahaha so negative 'the Patriot Way Sure it won 6 Super Bowls... but look at them now! Dumpster fire!'
I think last year pretty much showed us the "patriot way" didn't win squat. Tom Brady was the key.

That explains why every coach from the Belichick tree has been a failure.

Not mandatory.

Coaches tend to get their workouts done in the morning.

Nick is one of them.

I think Belichick is a very good coach. But Brady clearly was the difference. To throw out a hypothetical, take another good defensive coach (say, Dom Capers) and I bet he wins several Super Bowls. Does he win 6? Probably not. But I bet he wins at least 2.

I definitely believe that Brady was 80% of the reason they were as successful as they were, but regarding last year, the Patriots had a number to their top tier players sit out due to Covid.

If it was all Brady, then please explain how the Patriots went 11-5 when Brady blew out his ACL in week one.

As mentioned above the patriots had quite a few players sit out last season due to Covid, and the the division isn't a cake walk with the talent in Buffalo.

The Patriots in 2007 went eighteen and one with Brady. With fifty touchdown passes to only eight interceptions, he broke the all time touchdown record.

Matt inherited arguably one of the greatest teams to ever play. He had 76% yardage, 42% touchdowns, and 137% interceptions compared to Brady. And, that's with Randy Moss.

With a 58% drop in touchdowns, not sure why anyone would argue Bradys impact by comparison to Matt.

It doesn't have to be Brady or Belichik, Brady is the goat at QB and Belicick is one of the best coaches of all time. And early on with the Patriots it was that defense that carried the day. When Belicick took over, he brought in defensive players that were great leaders like McGinest, Bruschi, Rodney Harrison, etc. I think where he has slipped some is in identifying that kind of talent and he may be better off with a real GM.

As far as Brady, again he is the goat. He also went into an awesome situation at TB last year where they were loaded with weapons and a very good OC. He gave them the stability and steady great play that Jameis Winston could never understand.

You make some valid points. It was mutually beneficial for both Brady and Belicick. There was a good article discussing how Belicick has whiffed on recent draft picks. Seems he lost the Midas touch. Cam takes a lot of the blame for a team that isn't very talented compared to years past.

In TB, Brady arrived and quickly upgraded the talent around him.

Hmmm.. Things changing to this scenario playing out. Time will tell

Quote:

I posted awhile back that it was the belief he would come back and play this year. Kinda play nice per say. They need each other at this point. He would the. be traded next year.

However, of course, that was also before the litigation. Right now, the NFL has been in holding pattern w/ him. Watson desire to play could speed up NFL investigation.

Watson also would incur a fine of $50k/day fine but in cases like these those fines rarely are enforced.

It could be a play to be put on the commissioners list as Watson won't be in the court until at the earliest FEB 2022.

It would not surprise me to see Watson start day 1 for this team. Perhaps this is their plan and they are maximizing reps for the other guys as it seems Watson could get CEL at any moment. You'd want the other qbs to be ready to start.

Maybe the Texans feel like they can get him back into the fold the longer he hands around ala Aaron Rodgers. I'd bet against that as long as Muhlegeta is involved.

My know nothing take:

If he plays and the league takes no action he's in the clear for a trade.

If he plays well on a terrible team he increases his value.

A desperate team comes calling early in the season and everyone wins.

I'm probably wrong though.

At first I was all for benching Deshaun and running him out there at scout safety all camp.

The more I've thought about it I think he should be playing just as if he was gonna be the starter.

Caserio needs to put out the front that he's gonna stay here and he's gonna be the QB1. Create leverage with teams saying 'Oh he's just sitting on your bench'. Create a market where otherwise one may not exist.

Is anyone gonna start a **2021 Texans season** thread... or just continue running with this one, so all the great memories of the s***show this franchise has become don't fall off page 1?

An executive decision was made that there will be no 2021 for the Texans.

Our qb is a molester getting paid 30 mil to do nothing, we have a manchild owner, lead by a Christian crusader, a new unproven gm, a old 1st time coach, and the worst talent in the league. The beatings will continue until fan moral gets better.
MelvinUdall
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I don't disagree with everything you said except from an unproven GM, Ceserio has some skins on the wall, albeit without having the official title of GM with the Patriots, I believe he has done a good job to this point.

Watson shouldn't be allowed anywhere near Kirby. The dude has 20+ women who have filed sexual charges against him.

Anyone of us with that same baggage wouldn't be allowed anywhere near our office, much less "starting" for the team.

I understand how you can't necessarily fire him, but my god the thought that he's just able to show up to work everyday pretending none of that even matters is a disgrace.

After Wednesday's training camp practice, reporters were told that training camp was over and the team would be switching to regular season mode as they prepare for their first preseason game this weekend. That switch might mean nothing to fans, but it's everything to the media. Training camp practices are completely open to reporters, but regular season practices are open for just the first 20 minutes and the rest is closed.

Since the beginning of time they live in a completely different and live by a different set of rules.

it is rather remarkable...

January was when Watson asked for a trade.

March was when the massage scandal broke.

yet here in August...Watson is still with the Texans. Easterby is still with the Texans.

nothing has changed

Watson being a little ***** today.. He was denied his massage.

One thing you guys needs to realize is HPD has yet to complete its investigation into the massage allegations. Until then, the Texans nor the NFL will pass judgment.

If they did, you have a lawsuit on your hands and Watson has probably the best.

Watson can only be mad at himself on multiple levels.

Say what you want about how the Texans have managed the Deshaun situation during the GM and HC hiring process, but with each passing day, Watson is looking more and more like a whiny b****.

Agreed. It reminds me of that quote from the Dark Knight where Harvey Dent says "You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain."

Texans have handled the aftermath well, in my opinion.

What a weird situation for all sides. I wish I thought it was gonna get better once they move on from Deshaun and hopefully get a good return, but why should I have any faith in the front office besides Caserio? I know it's easy to pick on the Texans right now, but it's been a long time coming from their fans, and frankly, they deserve it.

Personally, I can give him a bit of leeway since I'm sure he's frustrated with everything and that can bubble over sometimes for seemingly no reason. But he isn't a victim of circumstance here. He should have stuck to his guns and not shown up. Instead, he's letting money dictate the situation and I think that's a bad decision. The thing that he probably needs to realize is fans will see this as directed at them because that's what fans do when they see a player act like this.

And I don't fault the Texans for letting him participate in camp because they have a lot of respect to earn back among players around the league. They have to show that they have a player's back.

As much as I anticipate this season to be a trainwreck of epic proportions, I am hugely interested to see how Culley and Caserio play this thing out. I was as pissed and critical as anyone with the Caserio and Cully hires at the time, but what if there's a chance they are exactly the right two men for this job?

I haven't heard anyone throw Watson under the bus yet, and in that regard they are playing their hand exactly as they should. Caserio has brought a ton of new blood into the building, how many of them make the roster remains to be seen, but on his end he's trying to do what he can to build Culley a roster. I'd love to see some surprises, guys that other teams gave up on. The Texans obviously aren't trying to win a Super Bowl so they don't have to make the same decisions other teams do. Given what Caserio has done so far it also gives them flexibility if player gets released elsewhere in the next few weeks. I'd love for high character guys to be given a chance, especially if Watson isn't on his best behavior when he shows up. If Taylor shows up, does his work, knows the playbook, and earns the players respect (which is what does everywhere he goes) put him on the field. I'll cheer for Taylor, I'm not cheering for Watson. I know this is the NFL and putting a winning team together generally doesn't mean putting a bunch of nice guys on the field, but a culture change is needed in Houston.
