well it has always been my dream to be an aggie. im not there yet, but well on my way. joined the Marines at 19 and got out last november. i knew with my pathetic high school transcript i would not even get a whif. so i sucked it up and im full time here at blinn. once i get my ring and degree from a&m it will all be worth it.

like many posters have already said someimes you gotta go through some bad times before you can reap the spoils of the good.

Having been automatically accepted, outright rejected (reapplying after I dropped out for lack of money) and accepted on merits (getting my community-college grades up after the rejection) and now a year from graduation, I'm greatly disappointed by the OP's attitude.

If you are so "sick" because you were rejected for not-outstanding grades and mediocre test scores that you are willing to give up on your supposed dream school, then I hate to say it but we may be better off without you. FYI, college can be HARD, and if you're not willing to work for what you want, even in the face of setbacks, they you probably wouldn't have made it at the greatest institution in the state anyway.

That said, if you're willing to put in the work, and put up with cc for a year or two and do make it in on the second (or third) try, well shoot, I'll personally give you a tour of campus and share a drink at the chicken when you get here. I'm not holding my breath though.

Yup, this is true. Something about getting a high SAT score causes your GPR to tank senior year...

My husband, Class of '65, has always said that the greatest thing A&M taught him was how to fail...and then pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and start all over again. He entered A&M with extremely good grades from Blinn. He was on probation a couple of times at A&M, but he learned from that experience and ended up graduating with his engineering degree. He has often said he doesn't think his experiences at A&M hurt him at all. In fact, he thinks it helped him problem solve as an adult. There is a lot to be said in that. College in general is not easy, but A&M in particular is very difficult. You will have accomplished a great deal if you can persevere and get that Aggie diploma with your name on it. It is worth the effort.

Maybe your attitude is what stopped you from getting into this so called dream school of yours.

Couldn't agree more.

Every time I read a thread like this I wounder how the hell I got in. This was 10 years ago, but still...

I was no where close to top 10% or even top 25% (60/160). Then again, I was also out of state, so I couldn't get auto admission anyway.

My GPA was good but not great; ~3.3

My SATs were strong; 770 M, 610 V. I'll bet this was the main factor of my acceptence.

do they still do that thing where they auto admit you if you make a certain SAT/ACT score? i was top quarter and was automatically admitted with a 30 on the ACT. i even got in the business school...but i struggled my first year. it's not perfect, but i learned after my first year...if you want to come to a&m and do well...you have to really want it.

edit: i did graduate 2 weeks ago...so yes, you can do it!

I'm w/ coconut - I graduated high school in the second quarter of my class - I was top 30% or so (good high school) + SAT score of 1360 at that time (it was pretty good w/ that scoring system) and I was admitted into the business school.

I'm pretty sure that wouldn't cut it anymore.

1300 w at least 600 math and 600 verbal. Top 25% of class rank. It used to be top 50% but now it is top 25%

Here are the requirements for Academic Admit.

  • they are ranked in the top quarter of their graduating class, and
  • achieve a combined SAT Math and SAT Critical Reading score of at least 1300 with a test score of at least 600 in each of these components; or achieve a composite ACT score of at least 30 with a test score of at least 27 in ACT Math and ACT English. Students must take the writing component of the SAT and/or ACT in order for the test score to be considered, and
  • required and recommended coursework, and
  • ensure all required credentials are received by the freshman closing date.

Under the old admission rules, you were an auto-admit with a 1300+ SAT and being in the top 1/2 of your class.

Under the new rules, you would not be an auto admit because they now require (math and verbal) 1300+ SAT and top 1/4 of one's class for auto admission.

i had to use the academic admit rule since i was an out of stater, no top 10% rule for me.

good thing i knew i would have gotten in even if i was in state, because a&m was the only school i applied to

Texas A&M-Galveston is an awesome backdoor to the main campus, you don't have to transfer, look into it.

I know that it is probably disappointing to be rejected, but that just is not a reason to get pissed off and declare that you are not going to try to transfer.

I couldn't submit to A&M starting out, because I couldn't get the financial support needed for the university (parent issues in my case.) I was still determined to go though, so I paid my own way through 2 years of Blinn and then transfered into A&M. I have my bachelors and I also picked up two associate degrees with Blinn.

If you just give up because you get one little no, your not going to make it very far anywhere. If you want something, you find a way to do it, one "no" shouldn't stop you.

I was just as pissed when i got a letter for the blinn team but I took it because I wanted so bad to get in and I used the denial or partial denial to motivate me to get in. Yes blinn sucks and the math sciences suck there end of story, they have no idea that your a blinn team student and drop you from financial aid, then you have to yell at them and try to get your classes back, you have mandatory attendance and the parking is horrible, the one place good to eat is open like two hours a day...but with all the stupid crap I had to put up with blinn I would go back and do it again, I transferred in from the blinn team last christmas and looking back I hated blinn I hated the program, but it is a very effective program to get into Texas A&M and I strongly suggest if you really want to go to A&M...dont hesitate about it and just do it

Hey! I just read your post and totally feel your pain...I got a denial letter when I applied to TAMU; however I would not get too down about it...several weeks after my denial letter I got a letter saying I had been accepted! Many of those people who did get accepted to TAMU will choose to go other universities, so when they inform TAMU about this their spots become open spots (or I am assuming that is how it works). I graduated in 07, so this happened several years ago, but best of luck to you!

Way back, I got denied by my dream school Texas A&M. Actually, first they pushed back their timeline to inform me, then a few months later they denied me.

I was all set for Sam Houston State, when two weeks before school started I got a letter from A&M saying they had some extra spots not taken but had no housing to offer me.

The letter is behind me, framed on the wall in my office. On the same wall is my Magna Cum Laude Texas A&M degree dated just 34 months later, as well as my Stanford MBA.

My point: situations and opportunities are what you make of them. Don't let anyone tell you what you can't do.
