I guess you can transfer into A&M, but it isn't guaranteed that you get into the major you want. Is this right?

get over it, go somewhere else for a year, work hard, and reapply. it worked for me. if its really your dream, you will find a way to get in.

3rd Generation Ag,
There is a program that allows for an automatic transfer. It is called TAPP. You can go to http://admissions.tamu.edu/transfer/gettingin/waysAdmitted/otherPathways/default.aspx for more info on the program.

I talked to an advisor who came to my college and told me that the TAPP was a joke. I can't remember why he said it though. His name was Mark Spies.

Boo freaking hoo. It says a whole lot about a person's character if they give up on their dream that quickly. If you really love A&M you'll sack up and go to Blinn and then transfer in, otherwise you can wallow in self pity at tech or tx state. Don't just quit cause they turned you down, keep working towards your dream.

Ampzor,
Please note that the TAPP is not a program for everybody. It is a good program for some students but for others it is not good at all, it just depends on the student.

I got in being with a 1600 SAT and 2nd quarter of my class. I don't know how. I am third generation, and I showed a lot of interest in the Corps of Cadets. I was also an Eagle Scout. I'm sorry man. I say you try and transfer.

I can’t tell you exactly who TAPP is appropriate for because it depends on the individual student’s situation.

TAPP is a means by which some prospective students choose to transfer to the TAMU, although most of our students come to us through the traditional transfer admissions process. It’s important to note that not all community colleges participate in TAPP, and many majors at Texas A&M are not available through the program. In certain cases, transferring through TAPP may delay the admissions process for some students. A guarantee of acceptance is not always the best path for admission, and individual circumstances can alter the appropriateness of TAPP significantly. Students interested should contact an admissions counselor at a regional Prospective Student Center nearest you for additional assistance in helping to make the determinations of rather or not TAPP is the route for you. Again, here is the link for more information on the program. http://admissions.tamu.edu/transfer/gettingin/waysAdmitted/otherPathways/default.aspx

ftr, I was barely top half of my graduating class and had 50 points higher on the SAT than the minimum required for addmission. I didn't even apply right out of HS, I sucked it up and went to JuCo then transferred right in.

Heaven forbid something be difficult.

Does anyone know the typical gpa for someone thats accepted into liberal arts college by transfer?

A student must have a 3.0 to be considered for admissions by the College of Liberal Arts. From there it will depend on the applicant pool for that year.

Yes, I am a lazy piece of ****. I wasn't really looking for anyone's sympathy either. All of you saying you worked your ass off would of probably gotten in anyways regardless of the rule because I'm sure you're all very qualified. I just don't think schools should be wasting spots on kids who are in the top 10% when some high schools like mine at times it seems like it's just as important to kiss the right person's ass as it is to actually earn the grade. Yes, I do think the SAT is a better way to consider applicants because its very simple you take the test, the test is regulated and monitered, and you earn a score. You don't like your score, take it again. Simple. These colleges have no idea what is going on in these high school classrooms, so why weigh so heavily on the grade that is earned in them. I don't think it should be completely disregarded but automatic acceptance based solely on a high school GPA is not the way to go IMO. Once again just my opinion and I have no one to blame but myself for not getting accepted initially and yall can point your "If A&M's really your dream school, then why don't you just transfer in?" comments elsewhere because I do plan on going to Blinn and transferring in if Blinn Team or the wait list don't work out for me.

quit your ****ing crying. so someone who doesnt put any effort into school, because no matter where you go to HS you have to at least put some effort in to make it in the top 10%(I put a minimal effort in and made top 10 in a Cy Fair district school so dont give me some crap about your high school being so tough) but does good on a single standardized test that really does nothing to prove success in college should get in over someone who made the top 10% and worked hard for 4 year? give me a break

toagie11,
If you go to http://admissions.tamu.edu/publications.aspx and look at the online version of our transfer guide that we hand out on page 15 you will be able to see their GPR requirement.

ive read this on another forum

"I've been told by about 10 people that as long as you have a 3.0 and at least 24 hours then you're in, but if you have like a 2.7 you would need to have a good essay. So to answer your question, I would guess a 3.0+ but I'm just going off of what the advisors and admission office have been telling me." This guy said he talked to don curtis

Everybody can't get in. The only guarantee you will get in is if you were Top 10% in your class. If this was your dream school , you should of worked harder in high school. Good luck.

Honestly I wish more kids had to transfer in. It shows a level of maturity other kids don't just have that end up going to N. Texas or Tech just because they are pissed they'd have to do jc for a year to get in a flagship school.

If you want it, go for it. Life isn't easy and you don't get everything you want all the time. Give up now, and you won't have an example to fall back on when your kid wants to quit school because "it's not fair..."

I always looked at college as preparing me for my career, after all thats what you are paying for...

Few thoughts:

In a few years you'll be interviewing for a job and they will want you to tell them about a time when things weren't going exactly right and what you did to overcome that.. tell you the truth, I’d hire someone who did struggle a little bit way before some kid who was handed everything on a silver platter...

Just something to think about, I'm graduating in May with an great job lined up (3.1 GPR) and I know for a fact my company turned down several guys with 4.0's in engineering...

Oh, and just stop the whining, kids these days think they entitled so many things that they aren't. Some things really do require busting your a$$...
