That is what she requested. She also requested to be hanged, but clearly that did not happen. Has it been established that it actually was an all-female execution crew?

Christa Pike's execution was overseen by the same male doctor named Mark Fowler who also botched the execution of Tony Carruthers earlier this year.

While it is not clear to me who actually put the IVs in Christa Pike, Dr. Fowler did try and failed to insert IVs into Carruthers.


In any event, it is not clear to me why a male would be any better at placing an IV than a female.

Jamaal Howard's lawyers have requested a stay of his execution tonight citing Christa Pike's botched attempt. Sounds like they are claiming the same could happen in Texas because the same drug was used and they believe the supply is degraded rendering it ineffective. They have asked for information about the supply of pentobarbital including it's age. TDCJ has asked for an opinion from the TX Attorney General office as to whether or not they have to provide that info.

I doubt they will succeed and if they do it might just be a temporary stay while Atty Gen decides if they have to release the info the drug being used.
