This then "starts a conversation" nationally about ending the death penalty being administered by women ...at least for humans.

I am all for this national conversation. Actually, it needs to be about many areas of society too!!
She really screwed up insisting that only women be the one doing the jabbing on her.

So they rushed her to the hospital and now she's on a ventilator, not receiving sedation, and cannot breathe for herself. Good thing we rushed her to the hospital so we could keep her from dying.

JFC we are a stupid species.

Cool. Remove vent and she expires. Easy peasey.

Any Dr. who can speak to what the treatment would be for bringing someone back from a lethal injection after a busted vain?

I'm curious what's the probability that Pike is coherent again and a decision must be made on trying for a second execution.

My assumption is if she's in a vegetative state, no one will push for another attempt at execution, but…

it'll lead to some very interesting legal dilemmas on whether the state or her family has the right to stop Pike's end of life care.

I'm pretty sure she's a vegetable now. I also think courts will not allow execution of person who is not mentally competent or in a physical condition to understand they are being executed. Which is the ultimate absurdity considering how she got to her current state. I believe someone already mentioned Kafkaesque.

This is how you carry out an execution. Note the mop and bucket at 2:38.

Tennessee should Extradite her down to Texas. We have a pretty good track record.

If she's in a vegetative state, is no one allowed to "pull the plug"? Is the state her medical power of attorney?

I think the legal gymnastics on this are going to be pretty crazy

They can only "pull the plug" if she's brain dead. Brain dead is dead and no legal wrangling will change that. But if she's in a persistent vegetative state, then brace yourself for the legal ****-show that'll generate.

Can someone explain to me the totally ****ed up mind of liberals, i.e. the TMZ staff? Please make it make sense!

I don't give two craps what she felt. She brutally murdered an innocent teenage girl and attempted to murder a fellow inmate.

Maybe if the activists wouldn't keep putting up obstacles (inadequate drugs and access to qualified professional medical personnel) to a humane execution then Christa Pike wouldn't have experienced anything but painless bliss before she died. Instead they have sacrificed her to a painful entry into either a life following an anoxic brain injury (induced stroke) or to a painful death. I wonder if they even discussed the possible consequences of a botched lethal injection or if they just played on her desperation to stay alive and martyred her to a miserable existence or painful death.

This isn't hard. We perform tens of thousands of these procedures every day for surgical procedures. Nobody has a surgery cancelled because they lack IV access. The only difference is that a lethal injection makes no attempt to keep the condemned person alive.

Look…I am 100% behind the death penalty, but some of y'all making arguments similar to this need to remember that we do have a constitution…

Our constitution allows for the death penalty while still preventing cruel and unusual punishment…

This whole execution was botched (likely on purpose), but that doesn't change the constitution…

As far as laws of this land go, it's irrelevant what her victim went through…we may not like it, but that's how the law works…this whole thing is ****ed up…the whole process was botched, and now you have a ward of the state, in a vegetative state, where there is no legal precedent to "finish the job"…

Whether our emotions agree with it or not, we now have an inmate who is no longer capable of understanding the punishment she was to receive, and that too creates a huge legal issue…I frankly don't see any way around keeping her on machines until she expires naturally in the future…

You will essentially need a judge to declare her clinically dead so hopefully the state can simply pull the plug, but that's going to open a whole Pandora's Box from a legal and constitutional perspective…

I will not profess to know how this all works out, but I do know this outcome is pretty much the worst possible outcome for all parties involved, and SCOTUS is going to now have to define several items once thought to be black and white which are now drowning in gray area…

Again, I'm still 100% behind the death penalty, but this whole thing is a cluster **** of astronomical proportions…

So, there's no reversal agent for barbiturates and if what I've seen online is to be believed Tennessee's execution protocol calls for injecting 5 grams of pentobarbital, and they did that twice.

For reference, I think about 0.5 grams is what you would need to put down a 300 pound St. Bernard (vets, please correct me if I'm off here).

So, they presumably pumped in enough pentobarb to kill a hippo through infiltrated IV sites into soft tissue, where it slowly absorbed into the systemic circulation.

The half-life of pentobarbital is at least 15 hours and can be up to two days. So even conservatively, it could easily take 5 days for her liver to clear the drug to a level that wouldn't produce coma. A couple of weeks is not out of the range of possibility. If her liver is trashed from drinking prison Pruno or something, hell, she might not wake up until Thanksgiving.

The point here is that barbiturates can reduce neuronal activity to more or less zero, but they don't cause neuronal death. So if she maintained adequate oxygenation throughout this fiasco, in theory she should wake up. Eventually.

Big caveat here is that we don't know what happened in the 30-60 minutes from them closing the curtains to her getting to the ER. For all we know her heart stopped in the ambulance on the way there and they didn't revive her for 10 minutes, in which case, she dead.

Great points there Yokel! We're not going to know if she's brain dead or even if she's mentally compromised for maybe a week or more. Brain death cannot be declared if there is any drug on board that could be interfering with her brain function. Would expect the legal wrangling to be a full court press while we wait until she completely clears the pentobarbital from her system.

The constitution doesn't guarantee that an execution be free of pain. You've taken that clause - like we've done with so many others - and gone completely overboard with it. Look up the history of how we used to execute people, e.g. drawing and quartering: dragged on a hurdle to the gallows, hanged but cut down while still alive, genitals cut off, bowels pulled out and burned in front of him, then beheaded, and the body cut into four quarters for display.

Regardless, that has nothing to do with my point.

The over-the-top empathy and support that leftists have for this lady is unwarranted. The TMZ article is an example. That's what libs do because their brains are broken. They sympathize and empathize with criminals and murderers now, completely ignoring the heinous acts they committed. Lindsey Clancy, this lady, Karmelo Anthony, etc... This plays itself out just about every day in this country somewhere in lib-land.

Well, he is a homosexual in the media business and lives and works in S.California and probably has for decades. It's his show, so even if somebody didn't believe all the crap they spew they aren't going to say **** because they don't want to be a pariah and never be able to work in the business again. Let's be honest though, the chances of one of those people working there is not in complete lock step with all the other libtards is as close to zeroe has physically possible. The empathy the left has for violent criminals is as deep as the Mariana Trench. The empathy or compassion they have crime victims is a tall as a grain of sand. Personally I think they are gentically predisposed to mental illness and the left and media has channeled their mental illness directly into the types of mental illness and views that support the communist and left perfectly.

Can she just be treated like babies that survive a failed abortion? Wasn't it the former governor of Virginia that said they should just be left alone in a room to die on their own?
