Thanks Al Gore. I assume this hurricane is the result of climate change?

They all are. The weather channel archives contain no record of them reporting on any hurricanes prior to 1982.

Good rain to fill up Caballo and Elephant Butt!

Crazy amount of water running toward elephant butte. It's massive though, so we will see if it fills up

Elephant Butte has almost 2 million acre-feet of capacity available before it fills up. This storm is not going to fill it up and little if any of that flow will be seen below EB.

The last few months have been the stuff you'd see in a Roland Emmerich movie. The earth is changing into something a bit more hostile to our survival. I don't necessarily think it's human caused.

2023 was bad too so it was 2011. This isn't really new. We're just having a really dry year. Hell I remember the heat wave of 1981.
Listen. Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony.

The /s is a "sarcasm tag" to let people know you aren't serious. The OAC tag is a joke about her habit of cherry picking a dataset or source to match her narrative even if it is totally unrelated or inadequate to support her position.

I'll be happy to turn off my sprinkler system tonight. My yard is barely hanging on and my water bill was over $400 last month.

Wasting water on grass is idiotic. I've never understood this thought process.

The grass will come back. It always does.

That's incorrect. It will die and leave bare spots, especially when there's no rain and your city is under water restrictions.

Nahhh, it comes back. It always does.

At least something good came of the drought!

My wife would throat punch you for that comment.

Second only to the Bradford Pear in the trash tree department.

Not even close vato.

Why the hate for crepe myrtles? I like mine, low maintenance, gives me pretty flowers a couple of times a year. Only complaint I have is when I trim the chutes off the bottom of the trunk if I don't immediately put tree seal on where I cut them I'll have to repeat the process again in a month or so, like I'm about to have to do now because I got lazy last time I trimmed.

As far as trash trees -

Tallow, Chinaberry, Saltcedar and Mulberry are way worse and way trashier. I'd put bradford pear after those, so it's top 5. Crepe Myrtle isn't on the list IMO.

Good thing there is a metric crap ton of water already flowing below EB that will make it south a ways.

If you just put in another mask, you'll be good.

My wife and were laughing about the "Flood Watch" all over the TV screen last night. No rain is expected until late tonight where we are. Nobody was actually on flood watch last night.

I get that they want people to pay attention, but that's just a Boy Who Cried Wolf warning. People start to tune it all out because of the ridiculous hyperbole.

Weather is still weather. Be prepared and pay attention. The world is not ending.

Neil Sperry has joined the chat.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

With no hurricanes to report about, they can't preach to you about getting supplies, or evacuations, or "hunker down" so they have had to turn to possible flooding or heavy rains. If they don't get enough of that, next will be 24 hour reporting on heavy dew.

God help us all if the heavy dew warnings become a thing. If I have to wipe down my outdoor chair before sitting in it, then we are truly in the climate apocalypse.

In lieu of no hurricanes, I'm sure everyone has noticed the relatively new headline trends by weather people in last couple of years:

  • "100 million people will be under a thunderstorm watch this week."
  • "45 million people could be under a tornado watch this week."
  • "250 million people will experience hot temperatures this week."
Gotta ratchet up that fear porn for common weather things that have always happened.

Poured down rain on top of Lake Belton for maybe four minutes. Freshman Lake v Heights game in Harker Heights was delayed.

Then………Nothing.

Hope I wake up to something different.

Looking at my yard when flooding was forecast.

Update: most of the heavy stuff is gone. Despite living where we were under a flood watch, only got a touch over an inch and can barely tell it even rained.

Don't know how it's going at your location, but after making more than a couple of eye-rolls on the flood predictions I have to admit this rainy spell has been great for our yard. Slow soaker without a lot of run off. Grass is turning green again!

3.3" since Thursday morning. Barely any water in the bar ditches because it came down so slow and it hasn't rained in two months. This is exactly what we needed.

Very slow going and constant, lazy rainfall. Very pleasant all around tbh. No crazy downpours meant no crazy flooding in my near area that I heard about or could see.
