This seems to be the location were the perp is, but they're saying it started elsewhere.

The media is thinking it might be a man named Victor Mata Villarreal who is wanted for attempted capital murder of a police officer. He shot a police officer last night. The officer is expected to be okay. Police will not confirm any details on the shooter or the victims.

Edit: Original report was incorrect; the officer was not injured.

Around 80% of the people that work in Midland don't live there. There isn't anything to do out there but drink, do drugs, and get in trouble. This guy found the trouble

that's a bit of an exaggeration. Between family, friends and customers, I've got over 400 contacts in Midland, and other than grabbing a beer at a HH, I haven't heard of any of them doing drugs or fighting. And of the 400 I know, I think ALL of them live in Midland.

Midland is an acquired taste, admittedly, but there is nowhere on the face of the Earth where your only choices are drinking and doing drugs or getting in trouble.

Saying that is all there is to do there is an exaggeration, it's what we tell new salesmen that head out there. There isn't a ton to do out there compared to major cities and a lot of people on the O&G industry do stupid stuff when they first come to money.

That's a terrible take on Midland and not anywhere close to the truth. While Midland has changed a lot over the years it's still a great community with the best group of citizens you can find.
I grew up in W Texas and spent the majority of my growing up years in Midland. It was a great place to grow up and is still a good city with plenty to keep a person busy and active and not involved in the things you mentioned. I have friends there to this day that wouldn't live anywhere else.

As mentioned above the shooter is dead along with one other person.
3 released from the hospital.
3 more are in surgery.
A number of others are still in the hospital in various conditions.

Midland is pretty ok to even decent-ish if you have a job. Let's not be mistaken though. It's the landed gentry spot of the Permian Basin, as it were. In other words it's where the Aggies are.

Unfortunately the gates are porous and the heathren filter in often from their lairs and trailers parks to work their mischief. This is what happens when you don't keep a firm hand on the leash and they no longer fear you. We even taught some of them to read!

Jokes aside though this sucks. One of my best friends from high school almost got caught up in that last one years ago. One of the guys gut shot randomly at a red light was the car right next to her.

You just never know when chaos will strike.

Police said the vehicle did not stop right away and continued for several blocks before stopping in the 4700 block of Comanche Drive. Investigators say the driver, later identified as Victor Mata Villarreal, got out of the vehicle and fired rounds from a rifle at the officer.

The officer returned fire, but authorities said Villarreal got back into the vehicle and fled the area. The vehicle was later found abandoned a short distance away. Police said an extensive search was conducted, but Villarreal was not located.

The officer was not injured during the incident.

Midland Police issued an alert Thursday that Villarreal was wanted for attempted capital murder of a peace officer.
