I have no clue where Trump was getting the $1.5 million and two weeks, but he mentioned the draining, power washing and regrouping of the granite bottom (was granite better than concrete in 1922 for pools?).

For just that work the $1.5 million and 2 weeks seems reasonable. The $6.9 million for Atlantic Industrial Coatings and you are welcome to see if she cited her sources.

The $10.2 you reference is not the contract award but the IFE. An independent estimate of what it should cost. Here the reported amount is lower.

The obligated amount in this parlance is the budget reserved for the contract. This number will include additional amounts for change orders and other unanticipated cost increases. It is not indicate of final or pending payment.

The coating is necessary to stop the damn thing from leaking and constantly requiring new sewage tainted tidal water to refill it. Waterproofing allows for recirculation and water treatment.

The granite bottom detectably explains why it was no biggie to drive the motorcade across it. It being grouted with the grout failing and leaking badly also very likely prohibited most chemicals being used to treat the water as it would leach right into the ground.

Ozone treatment of water should be both an effective and efficient solution for this. And yes it was always known to be a separate contract and amount.

I do like that you failed to mention in the video that the Biden holdover solution was to remove the existing granite and rebuild the bottom with stone (again?) at a cost of $300 million and 3 years. Trump, as he states in the video, says he can get it done faster, better and cheaper.

And he is right yet again.

Sorry your reflecting pool impeachment has failed to launch.

It's just silly political theater. It needs to be fixed. Previous administrations tried and either failed at more cost or proposed solutions costing more while failing to act.

Quote:

The Obama administration spent more than $35 million over several years trying to solve problems with algae buildup and leakage, but they persisted. The pool leaks 16 million gallons of water a year, according to an Interior Department estimate.

During the Biden administration, the National Park Service, which is part of the Interior Department, took bids for a more comprehensive rehaul to fix the problems. But the director of the Park Service at the time, Charles F. Sams III, said they postponed the plan when the estimates came in above $100 million.

Quit mischaracterizing the waterproofing as "paint". Have you looked at the company who is doing the work? Have you looked at the application? This is what this company does, a local woman owned business. But trash the work as just some paint.

I already pointed out your $13 million number is bogus. You need to understand how government procurement and budgeting work. If you do understand it, then shame on you for misleading people about what those figures mean.

The Walter pumping and filtration system includes the nano bubble technology (best in class, if your intent was to 'paint' it in a gimmicky manner) from my recollection, but one could read the contract and confirm.

Are you really doubling down on your impossibly bad take of what is actually going on?

So where is the financial boondoggle? Who's getting unduly enriched on this? I need some help generating taxpayer indignation over this.

To put it in perspective, there is 10x more hospice fraud in a single square block in LA than this peoject cost. The amount of this project in total is Somali bush league rookie numbers.

That's sort of the whole reason I started the thread.

It's not a boondoggle. But damn sure you can get the libs to show up and attack it for being not necessary (ignoring the $35 million Obama wasted and that Biden drained it to keep the WWII memorial and Lincoln memorial visitable).

How it's evidence of corruption because of the well documented procurement method, even though they link the documents what would explain the procurement approach.

And hell the even file a lawsuit about the color.

It's a prime time example of how DemLibs and TDSers are not about substance, just eternal hate on all things Trump.

Them ignoring fraud is just icing on their hypocrisy cake.

TDS is a disease. You will be able to trigger it for decades just by uttering his name.

As long as it is completed and reflects (for lack of a better term) the original intent of the memorial, who the hell cares how much it costs?

If the new filtration/bubble system will keep it looking clean as originally intended and it won't have to be replaced in a couple of years and require another renovation, I'm good with the cost.

It's not like it's multiple billions to Ukraine or Learing Centers in Minnesota.

I don't believe it's people who describe themselves as libs that are shrieking the loudest about the peoject. It seems to be CMs from the Bush-Kasich wing of the RINO herd.

The contract is literally called "Z--NAMA 291052 Paint Lincoln Reflecting Pool" .

As far as the cost goes, $13.1 million is correct and pulled directly from USA Spending government website. That's also where the $6.9 million figure from your article came from. You can claim the $6.9 million figure is accurate and just ignore the additional $6.2 million when if comes from the same source.

  • On April 3rd, Atlanta Industrial Coatings was awarded $6,886,520 for this no bid contract.
  • On May 8th, they were awarded an additional $6,218,381 bringing the total cost for just their portion of the work up to $13,104,901.
Given the cost for this project has almost doubled in a month (octupled if you believe Trump's first claim) I think its fair to say there should have been a standard bid process for this project.

(Oh and Atlanta Industrial Coatings is owned and operated by Eddie Wood, not a woman)

The cost increased because the scope of the project changed. The original contract didn't include the repainting and associated labor. That's what is referred to as a new requirement. These are Firm Fixed Price contracts and not cost reimbursable contracts. Cost overruns are to be absorbed by the vendor.

You will be pleased to know (or perhaps not) that the Trump administration just changed the presumption for contracting strategy for all federal contracts to FFP from Cost+. Use of cost reimbursement contracts will now require specific justification as to why the taxpayers should be on the hook for undefinitized costs from a vendor that is unable to provide a fixed price quote.

Its a smidge more extensive than a coat of "American Flag Blue" latex from Home Depot.

You could at least ATTEMPT to discuss in good faith

Seems there were additional funds added in May. Can you find the change order? And will you at least be honest that $13 million (hell lets put it at $20 million) is less than the $35 million Obama sent to fill it with **** water or the $100 million to $300 million Biden came up with.

The company is ATLANTIC Industrial Coatings.
Atlantic Industrial Coatings, LLC

So disingenuous. Kamala would have just hoovered the algae from it as long as someone could hold her heels

Sorry Trump making this beautiful upsets you.

And while we're at it, could something similar be done for the reflecting pool at the San Jacinto Monument? We've got ten years until the Texas Bicentennial, plenty of time for competitive-bid contract.

I would think the potential increased costs are due to the crack repairs, joint repairs and filling cracks before waterproofing and new surface. That would be hard to pin down with water in it or really until the work began.

And Trump very well could have "upgraded" items and things got going.

The best news is we will have a beautiful pool to gander at as Trump flies over the mall on July 4th... in the also resurfaced Qatari AF1 (yes, that is now the expected unveiling).

The US needs to opt out of the Federal Migratory Bird Treaty. For over 100 years these avian immigrants have been enjoying life at the expense of the American tax payer, causing accidents, and ****ting all over our country. It needs to end. If the Canadians want to protect their geese they can do it themselves.

Well, it appears you spent a good amount of time researching the contracts and then learning about how federal contracting works so that you apparently claim to know more about it than all the people who do it for a living...

So, I'm going to say his comment still holds...

Birds. So in Harvey recovery programs we had to 100% comply with migratory bird protections and had to check sites for nests and notify if there was one for monitoring.

People living in hotels at taxpayer expense have to wait for the birds to move on.

Word is some people turned to snakes and cats for common sense bird control.

  • Three weeks ago, this project was supposed to cost $1.5 million and take 2-3 weeks to complete. That's coming from Trump himself

  • According to the link in the OP, the company was actually awarded $6.9 million
  • The internal government estimate for the project was $10.2 million.
  • Now we are up to $13.1 million awarded for the painting contract alone
  • https://www.usaspending.gov/award/CONT_AWD_140P2026C0028_1443_-NONE-_-NONE-
  • Nano Bubble Infusion system mentioned above is unrelated to the painting of the pool. That is a separate contract to a company called Greenwater Services out of Ohio. The current estimate for that project is $1.8 million (I haven't found if they have actually started work)
  • Adding all of that up, this project so far has cost about $15 million dollars and they are not even halfway finished. (Live cam of the pool here)
  • The main reason given for skipping the bid process was a lack of time. If they had done nothing, the reflecting pool wasn't going to disappear or be irreparably damaged. It really seems like the July 4th is a sort of artificial deadline
So does anyone want to take a guess at how much this is actually going to cost?

The work is being done for far less, far more quickly, better quality, and in time for the 4th.

With all the waste, fraud, and abuse of federal monies, we should all be happy with that, take the win, and celebrate the 250th anniversary of our independence.
