You do understand that fireworks had already been authorized for other things?

Drive around Fort Bend county on the 4th sometime. Or Christmas. Or New Years.

Yeah, I corrected my post above...but still, why are we accommodating for "Diwali"...whatever the heck that is?

I think on the Houston board the issue was that a contingent of the Indian community got together at City hall or formed a petition in Fort Bend to try to ban fireworks outside of Diwali if I remember correctly. Citing noise and safety concerns.

Kind of hard to believe because who the hell would have the nerve...but if you give immigrants enough strength in numbers, all bets are off. Places like Frisco are unrecognizable.

Posting more in the context that Vivek will probably win the Ohio Primary and put his foot in his mouth by saying this, I don't believe this statement does anything but hurt his case for Christian voters.

***God should be capitalized in the title, my fault for copying the quote from the tweet

Every single religion in the world that already existed in some form changed their view of who God was the moment Jesus lived and died and rose from the dead. So Hinduism now includes Jesus as a God under the one true God.

Every new religion formed after Jesus's life incorporated him into their beliefs...think Islam - in this case they built many of their faith tenets and beliefs on Christianty and Judaism and included Jesus as a special prophet whose words were considered truth and scripture.

Jesus is such a powerful influence that all religions were forced to contend with him.

Vivek is great politically but he was somewhat deceptive in his proclamations regarding "god". He's trying to stay on the fence. The Hindu god is not the same as the God of Abraham - at least according to scripture. But I don't know.

I'd like to think he is a faithful and decent man, but these two are the same only in that they are both supreme omnipotent creators.

I also think it is inconsistent to say that Jesus is a son of god but not the son of God. Jesus proclaimed himself as the one and only Son of God.

All that said, he is preferable to me than a nihilistic atheist.

Hindu is a complete disqualifier for me.

They believe some really weird stuff.

And if you study closely the "gods" they worship, they are demons.

Hard pass, no matter the package it is presented in.

I don't think he'll be able to govern competently if he loses the election, and I don't think he'll win the election with statements like these.

Most people who lose elections can't govern competently because they aren't governing anything in the first place.

Because they lost the election and are not in office.

Well I guess we'll have to see how voters respond to this on election day. I was under the impression that saying Jesus Christ is not the way to heaven might annoy some Christians here.

I don't vote for a politician on their religious beliefs, I vote on how they will govern.

What a ridiculous and dumb thing to say.

Your god is good but someone else's god is a demon? Typical intolerant stuff that I hate these religious nutjobs for and which has caused wars ever since religion became a thing.

Vivek probably thinks you worship demons too, but he will be too polite to tell you to your face.

No religion worships "demons". All religions that I have studied have the concept of good and bad and "demons" are on the bad side and have to be destroyed.

But your pastor gave you wrong information because he needs you in his flock and to keep paying him to keep him employed. That is how it really works.

Eh. He was directly asked a question about it in a very non formal setting. Of course it's not the right way to do it because of this exact thread and how it is misconstrued but it bothers me when a man just can't adequately speak his mind on a topic that is obviously very meaningful to him for fear of pissing off the Christians. Valid as that may be.

I do not believe hinduism is a way to God and heaven. It is a way to becoming a bovine then maybe a place called nirvana. It believes in no founder or central authority. They can be very violent, but mostly within. Unlike radical islam, they do not believe they are called to kill those of other beliefs. I can work with that.

Yeah, but in large enough numbers, many of them just chip away at our culture and sense of unity. Like if you import enough, it changes things. They have taken over certain areas in and around Houston and voted to ban fireworks, except for on indian holidays, in some cases.

If they all assimilated and truly loved and appreciated this country, I'd have zero problems. But too many are here to grift off of us (and no more). Hopefully their children assimilate and become Americanized.

Honestly...F this BS...dafuq is Diwali???

Quote:

Diwali fireworks are now legally permitted in unincorporated Harris and Fort Bend counties due to Texas HB 608, allowing sales five days before through midnight on the last day of Diwali. This applies to unincorporated areas only; fireworks are strictly prohibited within the City of Houston. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]
Key details:
  • Diwali Authorization: Harris and Fort Bend counties approved special fireworks sales for Diwali, acknowledging its importance to the Indian community.
  • Location Restrictions: Fireworks are illegal within Houston city limits. They are permitted in unincorporated county areas (e.g., Katy, Cypress, Spring).
  • Burn Bans: Even if a general burn ban is in effect, Diwali fireworks are often specifically permitted, though sometimes limited to smaller fireworks.

That is an immigration policy issue which isn't the subject of this thread.

You are lumping Vivek into the highlighted category of immigrant which I think is unfair. I've never been given the perception that Vivek doesn't appreciate this country.

Then go full Hindu, not some weird Coexist blend of Hinduism and Christianity.

While I don't think his Hinduism should disqualify him, there is nothing low IQ about desiring your politicians have simliar moral and ethical beliefs as you have, and religion is the most prominent vehicle for those beliefs.

Of course you will still get "Christians" like Talarico that go against everything you believe, and non Christians that largely operate within a Judeo-Christian framework.

He thinks we need more Indians. Imagine if some white foreigner in another country was like "we need to import many more whites here to help set this country on course bc you people can;t reach your full potential without us".

Very few non-whites seem to be able to consider shoe-on-the-other-foot scenarios like this. A lot of East Asians tend to be able to though from my experience.
